Single Stacks Suck

- In this episode of TFBTV, Hop explains why you shouldn't buy a single stack handgun for concealed carry. With the advent of high capacity slimline pistols like the SIG P365 or Springfield Hellcat, and increasing adoption of appendix carry, you don't have to settle for 6 + 1 rounds of 9mm any more.

@Sony Pony self induced birth control.
@Josh Jones stupid commentary on your part.
If you're worried about blowing your weiner off, you probably should learn some better discipline before carrying.
@Chef C Never seen how dumb people can get while sleep deprived or sick? They forget simple things and screw up basic actions. Only takes one screwup to put a bullet in your crotch, so taking measures to reduce that is not a bad idea.
This very quickly turned into talking about appendix carry for five minutes.
Yep, maybe if he needs to spend so much effort justifying breaking safety rule one of not aiming at himself he could just grow a manbun and hide the gun there?
Obviously it's relevant. You can optimize for capacity without sacrificing an amount of compactness that makes the former not worth it.
@@andrewgreiner4681 He isn't wrong though. Appendix carry is literally pointing a loaded gun at your junk all day, in the name of convenience. I'll stick to strongside carry personally, most people aren't observant enough to notice you printing anyway.
tackytrooper I wear a 43x at 4 o’clock. I like to have a friend watch to see if I’m printing, and nobody’s ever told me they notice this. I do think body type plays a role for sure, but for me the gun is basically invisible.

Kirk Alley generally, that rule pertains to a gun that is unholstered. I’ve always been told a holstered gun (in a good holster) is considered equivalent to unloaded.
@@alphazuluz I'm not sure who told you that, but wow that's incredibly negligent of them. It effectively violates two of the core firearm rules instead of one. (Assume all guns are loaded & never point a gun at something you wouldn't destroy).
To create an "equivalent to unloaded" clause that justifies pointing a gun at yourself is just a massive can of worms.
Lol, it's even funnier when you read it as 'a end dix carry'.

I've pocket carried the Walther PPS M2 for several years now, absoulutley love that gun. With that said, I just picked up the P365 last week. I just couldn't overlook the fact that the P365 is smaller, and still holds 4 more rounds

..and when you live in a state with 10 round limit 🙄
Yeah, I'm waiting for the "next generation" of these guns that don't have $45-$50 magazines. The problem is these things are smaller but not that much smaller, not really worth jumping platforms for.
I'm in agreement SerenGetter.
Walther PPS is still a great carry gun also.

I’m still hesitant to carry a light trigger in appendix. Fortunately for me, I also prefer DA/SA, so PX4 subcompact it is for me.
Amen.
My wife carries a Kahr PM9 appendix. The long trigger pull gives her a sense of security. I wish CZ would make a TINY single double for concealed carry.
lucas trask couldn’t agree more
The only thing I appendix carry is what God gave me. Have you ever seen someone slowly die of infection after shooting off his Johnson? NOT WORTH IT!
@Maaku only thing slimmer in a da/sa is XDe from Springfield
A huge perk of the P365 and hellcat that is often overlooked is the ease of carrying a spare mag. A G19 spare is one chunky boi. The P365 "stendo" 15 rounder is a lot more slim and so much easier to slip into a pocket.
Neomag is the way my friend... I carry a G17 mag with a +5 Baseplate using the the Neomag type G and it makes things easier.
I always carry a spare magazine on my belt or as part of the holster if talking appendix. I find it much easier to access than in a pocket, especially if seated. Carrying either a Glock 19 magazine or a P365XL magazine on a belt the magazine for the latter is slimmer, but it’s not a big difference.
A p365 with 15 rounder in it is actually taller than a g19 tho
Thats a good point.
One thing that’s even more overlooked is retention. The Springfield mags being highly polished are easier to drop than Glock mags imho. Thoughts of dropping a reload are what keep me up at night
Meanwhile I pocket carry a government model. Thank you pizza
Single stack is still a bit thinner and lighter which, if you sometimes pocket carry, is a benefit. And some single stacks like the LC9S have a 7+1 capacity which, in my opinion, is acceptable. I'm not a fan of appendix carry for several reasons. It does make a one-handed draw more difficult, and by positioning the gun in your front it makes it harder to draw in close quarters and increases the likelihood that your draw will be disrupted. AND it makes the draw a lot more visible, whereas if you angle off you can often draw from strong side or small of back before the person in front of you realizes you're going for a gun, and even if they do they have to reach a lot farther to try to disrupt it. Basically, I don't think appendix carry is tactically sound. I've personally switched to carrying OWB in a two-slot pancake holster, although there's nothing wrong with IWB if it works for you.
"I'm a recovering hipster" LMAO I'm stealing that.

I think I’ll stick with my Walther PPS M2 LE. I’ve already passed the phase of “MORE AMMO” for concealed carry. I carried a snub nose revolver for a time and felt comfortable with that, so a extra few rounds with the Walther is a breeze.
You keep thinking this, and I'll keep carrying the 43 and laughing when people notice your Glock bump.
thats what's up thejones. i carry a g43 with a vickers tactical plus 2 in a tier 1 axis with a plus 2 back up mag with zero printing or being uncomfortable even after hours of having it on. That gives me 17 rounds. I borrowed a friends p365 but just couldn't love the grip or trigger. Not saying anyone is wrong for carrying a 365 or 365 xl but don't hate on the g43 when set up well.
Glock34, red dot and TLR1, with 18 rounder in gun and spare. Appendix carry IWB with a Tier 1 concealed holster. No print.
And I'm not a big guy 5 foot 7, 120 pounds.

“Recovering hipster” had me lmao! I like the idea of caring the Glock 19 as I carry it often, So maybe I’m bias. I own and carry a P365 as well when it’s hot out because it is that much smaller. I do love that micro! All said and done, obviously you carry whatever you’re most proficient and comfortable caring. I do like your perspective and thank you for the video.
Appendix carry is fine when you're skinny (and it's hard to carry strongside) but after a few pounds (and years), strongside works better and it's comfortable.
I have a daughter who is a paramedic, she has shared a few appendix carry horror stories with me, but it's your peepee point whatever you want at it, as for me I'll take a chance on losing a chunk of ham over a sausage any day!
Walther PPK in a leather shoulder holster. If it's good enough for James Bond it's good enough for anyone.
If you look at the G43X grip length compared to the P365 (or Hellcat) you'll see that its 3/4 of an inch longer. So, using the Shield Arms 15 round mag in it you're still getting the same number of rounds in the same total length as you would if you popped a 15 round extended mag in the P365. The advantage the P365 (and Hellcat) has is that you can, if you want, go with 10 rounds and a shorter grip - for those times when you can't dress to conceal - or pop in an extended mag for extra capacity. The G43X you only have the one size. And, of course, you have to buy an aftermarket mag to do this.
Carry the Glock you featured at the end with the red dot, light, and 18 rnd mag. ...become the Batman.
I’m a utility company lineman in a high crime urban environment and my climbing belt makes appendix carry impossible so I’ve gone through 15 different ccw weapons and setups and I’m a slim dude like yourself but I keep coming back to my S&W 442 in a Boraii holster in my pocket

Jo Quin and the shields still are simply awesome...
I carry I shield as well.
I bought a shield 1.0 about 3 months ago for $350. I wouldn't consider that a horrible price, and I love the gun.
I just passed the 1k mark in my shield 2.0, and as the story goes.....no, no malfunctions to speak of. Nothing at all. And I run the gun more so than just shooting paper.
@@pnp_110 one thing to consider with the 1.0, is that the 2.0 has a better trigger reset. The 1.0 has a spongy trigger, and a "fake" initial click before the reset which may cause you to think it has reset. If that doesn't bother great. If it does, look into the Apex striker block. It is inexpensive and an easy install. Makes the trigger reset a joy.
I absolutely love your perfect mix of useful insight and dead pan delivered humor.
Hell I still walk around with a 5 round revolver and don't ever feel under gunned so I'm not convinced you guy that have your single stack and trust them keep them ànd stay safe
@Bill Randall actually I've been shot at twice and won both times it comes down to who hit who first I have no problem with people that think you need a bunch of rounds to feel safe but for those who know the weapon they carry it's just make sense to carry it
Any pistol is better than no pistol.
Could not agree more. Hell, I carry a NAA mini 22 mag revolver whenever I am wearing comfy basketball shorts.
I just lost enough tactical girth in the last couple of months to carry appendix for the first time and my back and right hip are really grateful. So why does everybody forget about the glock 26 these days? A cheap mag extension makes it just as good a shooter as any other small double stack and there is something pretty tacticool about being able to slap in any other glock 9mm double stack magazine in existence if needed and rock n roll.
These are still good for pocket or ankle carry, where the width of a gun means a lot. These are good backup guns.
My suggestion? Keep being you, Hop.

Your videos have gotten stronger, nice work.
I'm a big guy. 6'2" 290 lbs. I've only recently started with appendix carry with my Sig P365. It hurt at first where I felt like the gun was stabbing me in the gut, but I eventually figured out how to do it comfortably. I have a simple kydex holster that I cant towards my left side. This makes the angle of the grip follow along right under my belly. When I sit down, I usually pull my pants down a little and this makes it comfortable. It feels very secure to have the gun in front of me as opposed to on my strong side. It also feels much more accessible than pocket carry.
Fine, I’ll say it. None of these new fangled jobbers have convinced me they are better than my G26. That being said the only thing I might appendix carry is a 33 round fun stick especially if I’ve got my Jamesy Dukes on. Yes ladies, my brass does hang that low.

I like the lcp2 in .380 with the after market extended magazine for pocket carry. Gives you one extra round of capacity and the mag extension allows me to get my pinky on the grip, which makes the gun much more shootable compared to the stock magazine which forces you to shoot with only a 3 finger grip. And it doesnt seem to affect concealability all that much at least for me.

I’ve always ONLY carried appendix! It’s the only position that’s ever made sense.
Michael Whitehead You’re a smart man. It just doesn’t make sense to hip carry inside the waistband! Firstly, someone could come from behind and access your weapon before you even know they’re there, especially if you’re bending over. Secondly, you’re almost always going to print when carrying on the hip, hip bones protrude and there’s nowhere for the gun to nestle into. Thirdly, you can draw from the appendix without rotating your shoulder. It just makes the most sense to carry appendix.
I love my 1911s, but the reality is the threat has evolved. Our carry arms & their capacity must evolve as well.
@DV8 *** Spare mags are primarily used to resolve reliability, not capacity issues. If you're ever in a gunfight & you need to reload for capacity when your adversary is not, you're losing. You need more training.

dude just tuck it under your mighty hump like i do. Yes, you have to clear your garment and your belly when drawing lol but still an excellent way to carry.
Thanks for the great video. Carried a full size 45cal 1911 and a S&W N-frame model 28 revolver in 357 for 40+ years. Just bought my first Glock, a 43X. Was originally happy with the 10 round mags. More than I had with my other older pistols. But I just order 2 15-round mags. I can now carry a pistol and 31 rounds, and they all weigh about half of one of my old pistols. Still getting used to no hammer.
So what if a 4 o'clock flash happens? Just showing off my Series 80 38 super.
Hey Hop, what are your thoughts on the G48?
Hop: this video is about single stacks being obsolete.
*spends half the running time trying to convince people to carry appendix*
Yep, implying this video is about "single stacks suck" is sort of like watching these riots on CNN and having the paid liars calling them peaceful protests.
1:57 what's that gun with a star muzzle?
Hop looks exactly like Andrew Eldritch from The Sisters of Mercy lmaoo
I been thinking of the glock 43 I have been wondering if I can put one of the 15 glock 43x mags in that to deal with the 6 plus 1 after just having a 19 I wanted a 26 but covid is in the mix at this time but I was thinking of buying a single stack soon
48/43x mags dont fit in the 43
