    In this week’s woodworking build we make the Ultimate Drill Press table with 3 ways to collect dust. I use a unique sliding table design to keep the dust collection working no matter where the fence is. There’s a dust collection wand, dust collection in the fence and the table. The table hole works as a vacuum hold down as well. There is a-track in the fence for the Katz-Moses Stop Block and a t-track in the table for hold downs. I really can’t wait to see what you create! Let me know what you’d like to see next. Thanks for watching! Please like, comment and subscribe. Cheers!

    I just came across this video of your drill press adjustable top. Now I am rethinking my project and installing drawers. I found two Craftsman work benches that need some work and a better top. I have a heavy desk top that is going across both benches at a 90 degrees. I was going to put in a simple 5 foot box for storage and built in lights. After seeing your drawers you built I going to change my plan around.

    Have you looked at a dust shroud typically used for hammer drills or angle grinders for silica dust collection? Might work better than your directed hose.

    • @TheLastPharm
      @TheLastPharm Před 11 měsíci

      Actually, your idea of a dust shroud is most likely THE best, most practical dust collection idea I've seen yet. I have the Festool OF1400 router and the dust shroud that comes with that would be perfect for a drill table application. You'd just need to fasten it to a piece of flat mdf or plywood or Plexiglas with an adequate hole cut out of it and go. I think it would work substantially better and in most if not all cases than anything I 've seen on CZcams.

  • @SmallWorkshopGuy
    @SmallWorkshopGuy Před 4 lety +1

    Using that. Matchfit Dovetail Clamps to secure from the bottom was a genius idea - I might have seen that somewhere before - maybe, but can't remember where (hahaha). Now in the routing scene that was taking the "sawdust is man glitter" thing to the extreme! Great build. Just a couple of questions: I think my drill press table handle for raising and lowering might be hampered by the unit your built - how did that work out for the design of your drill press - okay, apparently? Having the large drawers on there, does that limit your ability to lower the drilling surface so you can put taller items under the bit? Maybe that is only a problem for the benchtop drill presses that most of us have.

    I love that table, and I also love that drill press. I have a drill press table on my to-do list, but mine is tiny compared to yours, and I won't have room for draws which means I probably won't be able to have an extract system beneath the table. That drill is crying out for a new chuck btw. I'm guessing it uses a #3 Morse taper, and a 16mm (5/8") keyless chuck is about US$50 on Amazon.

      It does. Mine has almost 5 feet of up and down travel though.

    You must be shopping at better auctions than I am. Nothing that sweet has ever crossed my path. Love the build now just need to find the press to use it on!

    How do you rate the Mikita track saw? I have been looking it vs the dewalt. Thanks

    Can’t tell how the wand attaches.
    Can’t see where the dust hose attaches to the table.

    Why is the dust collection slot in the fence offset by 1/4 inch to the right? Am I missing something, it seems the insert would be easier to remove if the slot was centered with it.

    My drill press table doesn't have through holes/slots either and I was wondering how I'd attach a table that was still easily removable

      I am making a small removable table for my tiny bench-top drill. Mine is basically a top, pieces to guide the steel table below, and caul-like clamps to grab the table. I loosen the knobs below and my table slides off. I've also got a simple fence that clamps on the top. It's nowhere near Jonathan's table, but my little drill would tip over with his beautiful beast of a table.

      Those match fit clamps work great

    Hi Jonathan, I really appreciate the workmanship and design in this project but for people with a benchtop drill press, it is not of any use. If you come up with one for a benchtop I would buy the plans if it would fit my small workshop. Cheers, Huw

    This press has worked like a charm for my projects czcams.com/users/postUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with.This was an excellent purchase for $40!!

    noting that, curiously, you don't seem to trust the fence scale on your SawStop TS... you are using a ruler to measure distance from the fence to the blade. Wondering why the fence scale isn't sufficient? Mine seems to be dead accurate, always.

      It is a brand new saw so I hadn't even checked it yet BUT, I never trust anything but the thing I used to measure what I need. I.E. If I used my tape to measure the distance I need then I use my tape to measure on the tool I'm using to cut that. I (personally) can't stand being off by more than a 1/128. Drives me nuts.
