The point of being in the cave was to hide from the institute, and I suppose being ordered around by other super mutants or killed by wastelanders by living somewhere else would have been a problem to him, but he certainly had more than one option as a super mutant.

I always wondered why you couldnt just bring the cure to Maxson at the Brotherhood (assuming you sided with them or didn't destroy them), Scribe Neriah sure looks capable enough to continue Virgil's research to heal the FEV mutations, and Im curious how would Maxson react to the possibility of saving supermutants instead of killing them...

LewisB776 He is a bit of a Psycho (Maxson), but maybe he's still human enough to feel compassion for the Mutants, after all they are just sick people when you think about it... Would be nice to have the choice is my point, after all the main story line is a bit too lead by the nose, sure the game is a sandbox, but most of the fights break out one way or another... Like the Battle for Bunker Hill, It's a big F* you, because even if you tell the brotherhood and the railroad or not, they will all be there, ready to fuck each other and you if they are your enemies...

Considering that strain had been modified in a lab, it's pretty unlikely they would match up.

Not likely without a full Fallout series reboot like they're doing with Mass Effect. If they stick how it is, SM's will still need to be around to cater for certain past decisions (such as helping/hindering Vergil), assuming any of F4's story has any impact whatsoever on future (non-DLC) Fallouts.
Virgil said it would take decades to possibly generalize the cure. The experimenting went wrong before, his "cure" could very well lead to a new strain of super mutants far worse than the ones that exist. Just because he cured one strain doesn't mean that his tampering will lead to a cure.
That would depend on how it is experimented with. There's no logical reason for any of it to be tested on humans or non-super mutants, so that leaves supermutant lab-rats. Worst case, they become super-duper mutants as opposed to cured. I don't see it leading to a full-blown 'new' strain outside of mutating the already mutated. Regardless, this was all setup in a way where any outcome is possible, but we won't see any of it in the near future (heck, maybe not at all depending on where they take the series from here).
***** You don't see it happening again? The FEV was meant to cause evolution and look at what happened. I can imagine a dozen scenarios in which the cure seems alright until the "cured" people are allowed back into the wasteland.
Yes, but the situation involves one lone guy without any support generalizing a single-strain cure that has no real reason to be used/tested on normal people (and won't be seen for, at least, two decades if he's even remotely accurate and we assume he makes it a reality), versus other examples like a faction kidnapping and forcefully dunking unwilling people into vats full of gunk to create supermutants en masse. Again, all I can see is a case of SM's becoming Super-SM's or something worse, but whatever happens will be down to the devs (and it'll likely be something completely different to what any of us expect, if it is even mentioned again at all).
I kind of did both. I cured virgil and then dismembered him and ate him. My guess was human meat tastes better then super mutant meat

Hey everyone, just wanted to drop by and thank you all once again for all the interesting points and discussions. I know the volume was a little low, but glad people got to see (and discuss) this interesting point in F4.
Alt-tabbing out of the game to look for tips etc. and not having to turn the volume down was a pleasant surprise for me.

Yes, well, some of us play the game at a level they can actually hear clearly enough not to need them. I never even suspected the video would be as watched as it is, so if I had known, I'd have re-loaded, enabled subtitles and/or turned up the volume. Still, louder version has since been supplied.

WTF are you talking about how does it get rid any point of the game that literally makes no sense. 1 hit headshots just make more sense rather that shooting away at an enemies head which is total BS.
Guys, it's an RPG, not a tactical shooter. VATS already makes the combat trivial even with bullet sponges, so having insta-headshot deaths regardless of weapon or character levels would wreck any sense of character progression, which is what you play an RPG for in the first place. You can mod it if you wish, much like you can reduce the difficulty so that everything dies in a few bullets if you want 'realism', but I hate using words like that with games involving nuclear apocalypse, zombies, super-mutants, gargantuan insects etc. etc.

Well, at the end of the game, you have the option to make your son a mutant so he can live longer. If this guy makes a serum, then end the long run, the son can eventually turn back human but without the cancer.

It's a bit ironic; when I lied to Virgil and convinced him to end his life just so he wouldn't have to endure the horrors of being a Super Mutant, Strong loved all those choices :p Strong confused.
Wow, this was really interesting. Thank you for recording this! The assisted suicide ending was really something - I have been wondering if that was possible - and the last one where he attacks you for disagreeing with his plans was very surprising to me. I wasn't expecting that at all.

I was actually hoping that you could mass produce the serum and then use it with the syringer to turn all super mutants into humans.
That had been awesome, sneaking up, use the syringe gun. Sneak away and come back a bit later and find confused humans in amour that doesn't fit anymore.
My first play through I joined the Institute and forgot about the serum. Eventually I remembered Virgil existed so I went and told him I couldn't find it. He freaked out so I blew his brains everywhere with a six crank Laser Musket only to later find the Serum that i have no use for now xD

Man, watching this video... it... it gave me a weird feeling about this game... I don't know, it felt like the dialogue, despite having a voiced protagonist, was less personal than New Vegas... and that there wasn't as much passion in the voices... Especially at the end where you say Strong is right and he immediately pulls a gun instead of trying to convince you or anything... :/ I don't know... that's just how I felt about it...
The main writing was weaker in 4 than previous games, definitely. They made improvements with companion dialogue and characterization, but the other writing suffers. Then again it's Bethesda. They're really good with the worlds they work on, but not so much the dialogue and writing.

As much as I love Fallout 4, not as much as Fallout new Vegas, it always bothered me that you couldn't cure strong. And it sounds like that concept wasn't even thought of.

Curing the FEV would be a major step towards rebuilding a sustainable infrastructure in the US wasteland. If you can't make enough of the cure figuring out how to control them could be even more beneficial. Shooting them with a chip that allows you to control the decisions of SMs would be fantastic. You could use the SMs to thin out the Raiders.

I would have liked Virgil as a super mutant side kick. Imagine that a sassy hulk following you around, firing off sass filled lines of wit as you pick up every seemingly useless piece of scrap.
The worst thing you can do is give him the serum and make him human again, As you have then made him a prisoner in the cave as he has no way of leaving and not dying of the radiation outside.

In real life I would've supported Virgil, his work can improve and save thousands of lives in the Commonwealth, hell maybe the Capital Wasteland, or even the entire American East Coast.
It's extremely rare that you find a Super Mutant who doesn't want to rip you apart on sight, generally they attack people and raid settlements.
I'm sorry but people bringing up the counter argument of "consent" for curing Super Mutants is complete bullshit to me, I honestly do not see the negatives anywhere on turning all Super Mutants back into humans.

Virgil must have not thought things through... How is he supposed to leave the cave now that he isn't immune to the glowing sea? As a human, he wouldn't last 5 minutes out there. Logic would have dictated he took the serum anywhere else.

He loves it either way - this is a Super Mutant who wants to be Human again (Mutant Virgil) and/or wants to turn other Super Mutants into Humans (Human Virgil). I wanted to kill him by punching him in the toe-nail but had activated VATS with a rifle and figured I'd roll with it.
I tried spawning the serum in with the cheat terminal mod. Upon discovering that it didn't work I just killed him after advising to take his own life.
I wish you could currently strong, that'd be cool.

I don't have a let's play, mostly just clips. You can watch my V.A.T.S montage to see that I'm specced for Rifles (knockdown), sneak/lockpicking, and full charisma for chatting (hence the vid).
