  • No.103 Today I'm fixing a broken toilet or closet flange. I noticed my toilet was wobbling. One of the bolts that hold down the toilet was loose and spinning. I had a feeling the Toilet or Closet Flange had broken.

Awesome video. You've educated me today my friend. I want to replace our leaky toilet with a new dual flush but I was concerned about the condition of the flange and possibly needing to change it out since its 25 years old. Your video taught me how to repair the flange rather than replace without all that extra work removing the old one. Your video is well done and I must say you're a natural with the camera. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.

The wax goes under. We just did this today. The native rubber gasket makes a seal with the toilet outlet as you bolt down the toilet against this flange. If you put wax there is gets all squeezed out. Good thing you put the caulking under the flange otherwise you get to do it all over.

@@jonahvlogsdiy4143 The rubber gasket in the middle is what makes the seal when you tighten the screws, similar to the rubber washers on the water hose behind the toilet. I'm sure your way works fine and will last awhile, but I wonder how long the caulk you applied in between the flanges will last. That is the area that requires the most sealing because of the uneven surfaces. Anyways. It is a good video that you made, especially checking on the tank bolts. One day I woke up with 1/2 inch water in my bathroom because the tank bolts wiggled loose over time.

I poured several buckets of water to check for leaks and some water flowed from back of base. Did I not tighten bolts enough (what is too tight before it cracks?} Would adding a second wax seal on top (in addition to one between old flange and hydroseat) help this or cause any issue?
