A lot of people have no interest in cars or how they work. Not long ago I saw someone burn the clutch on a new car by staying on the bite for ages (while on a very steep hill). The same sort of person who would drive full speed towards a flood I would think.

@@petersmith5723slim chance, especially if water level is below exhaust valves. And even then if engine is running there is no way water would defeat exhaust gas (unless whole car isn’t submerged few feet underwater).
But if you approach the Ford slowly and manage to keep the tidal wave lower than the bonnet and revs low then you have more chance of crossing it like the Mini driver did.

0:31 That sprinter has the airintake behind the grille at the upper right, so when he would have drive slowly, then the engine would still be in one piece. Now it's going to cost about 10k to overhaul that engine.
Speed well low speeds is the key to crossing flooded Fords but older cars had more chance of doing it successfully as the air intakes was on top of the engines and if the electrics didn't like it they would short and save the engine.
Open car manual. Check wading depth. Approach ford. Check depth marker. Turn around and use another route. Save yourself a lot of money on car repairs. Simple isn't it :)
@@petersylvester2905 Daily car is an Audi. Also have 9 Land Rovers/Range Rovers but they obviously have a depth specified. My siblings cars don’t mention a depth either, other than don’t drive through floods.
It's almost as if cars are free in the UK. Even if they can avoid hydrolocking the engine, don't people care about the damage that the water can do to the electrical system and all the things that are well enough protected from rain water, but not so much from flooding?

What difference will that make??? Once the engine is water logged, there is no starting it. In neutral you also have no drive so you come to a halt, how is that meant to help you???
@@4faxache935 put the car in neutral so it can be pushed or pulled out of the water. If the water is too deep, don't go in. If it's not too deep, go slow so you're not making the water go up over the hood/bonnet and drowning the engine and hydro locking it.

Even modern cars with electronic everything can still be put into neutral if the engine doesn't start. Sometimes it doesn't work if the battery is dead, but it's not impossible for the car that is stuck in the water to be put into neutral so it can be recovered.

Not sure if the 3 series is the same as my X5, but there's an emergency release in the boot, the toolkit has a plastic hook thing that looks like a strange hammer which slots over a cable end behind one of the side panels?

It's possible the gearbox was flooded through the breather and he couldn't get it into neutral, or maybe didn't think about it. There's a lever on the side of the transmission, or an allen key slot, either way there is a way to get them in neutral, however, the standard BMW toolkit doesn't have snorkeling equipment.
When the lake (reservoir) over fills it drains into that canal and spills onto the road called a Ford. From what i gathered there is no cheap solution. Signs should be placed stating. Only 4x4 and Ford equipment vehicle when flooded along with a very slow speed limit.

Barriers were there two days ago I doubt they will have been removed with the rain that’s due this week. The height of the water was up past the Ice Bin at the gate to the wedding venue. Add to that the wedding venue has its fancy table umbrellas up in this video I think this is a fun compilation of idiots in cars.
And also to remove the Starter Motor to empty the water out. I once drove through a flood. Starter Motor failed 3-months later. It was still full of water when I changed it!

It can also be sucked up the exhaust . You need to slip the clutch and raise the revs to ensure a constant exhaust flow .

The speed you enter the ford is inversely proportional to the speed you leave apparently..

MX5's can cross it very well due to the rad grill's being much lower than the air intake.
Still right on the limit though as the bonnet was almost overtopped on height alone.

BMWs have a tool in the toolkit to manually put the car in neutral so it can be towed. You removed one of the cup holders to insert the gearbox key.
They can keep all that modern techno-BS. Give me an old manual 90s car any day. Neutral is just that - the wheels will rotate.

Cars with electric brakes can lock up in hi water. Possibly battery disconnect may unlock the brakes so they can be pushed out.

BMW F3x is a manual handbrake I think. My guess is that he is stuck in gear because of that electronic shift selector.
