To be fair to the monster in How to Kill a Monster, if I remember right it was actually a baby. That's why it never really did any damage to the kids. This wasn't just kid vs. Monster. This was kid vs. Kids.

That was one of my favorite books and I still love it. But that book needs a sequel.
It starts with Gretchen and Clark sitting at the table eating breakfast and Charley is laying down. The parents are eating as well too. "Well kids, get ready, me and your mom have to go to Atlanta for a job, so your going to your grandparent's house." Dad says putting his bowl in the sink. "It's really important." Mom adds. My eyes wide with horror. Clark's eyes do the same. I see Charley getting up and running upstairs as if he said 'No, I'm staying here!'.
That part would be what happened before the beginning of How to Kill a Monster.
But sorry if I wasted your time I got distracted.

Thanks for the reviews but I liked Clarissa the bird lady. Not bouncing off of the main character doesn't really matter to me. What is this, an Abbot and Costello routine? Anyways, her character is a bit of an odd trickster and that fits since the crow is one of the smarter birds. Tricksters kind of live in their own world, so for me, no bouncing off of required. I remember this episode as one that stuck out. I am a sucker for morality based fairy tales and this one had all the elements I enjoyed. As for the quality of the statue, that has nothing to do with the quality of the monster.

He was one the first " documented" way to turn volontarly into a were-wolf and was ussually used by wizard, witch or just peple who wanted to eat people during a full moon. What they call a cheap plot device is actually one of the most faithull adaptation of the early european were-wolf legend.

I love how R.L Stein thinks he's more of a comedy writer. I'm pretty sure these monsters confirm that

The blob that ate everyone should be in this countdown for being a lackluster monster and also the show cut the ending where the blob is one that write the story about kids defeating the blob

I remember really liking how to kill a monster the book as a kid, and werewolf skin the book was pretty decent, it’s nod to Native American folklore and skin walkers showed at least a passing interest in the origins of werewolf legends and not just the American cinema version, and the twist was pretty ok.
As for the how to kill a monster I found the story a more interesting read as a kid than I did the episode. The feeling of claustrophobia and confusion of being locked in the house by the grandparents and even the windows being nailed shut and the monster stalking them in this house they barely know with food that’s probably not edible anymore. It really worked when you imagine you’re one of the kids and you can’t feel that in the show so it kinda falls apart
