@Cognitive Chaos 1. Did u see the new are u afraid of the dark...reboot 2. What's ur favorite are u afraid of the dark episode..also what's the show about j Never saw the original
@Cognitive Chaos oh u didn't hear... Nickelodeon rebooting the are u afraid of dark series...the first episode aired in Friday the 11rh at 7pm....it was one hour long ..it's only going to be 3 episodes long so it's short... majority of the first episode was character development....the last 15 min was of our main character Rachel telling her spooky story called ...the story of Mr tophat and the carnival of Doom.... basically the end of the episode ends in a cliffhanger where the carnival in her story basically comes True and one of the kids at school goes missing...so next week's episode sne the week after that will focus on our main characters going to the carnival and trying to get there missing friend back and stop Mr tophat
yup, he's very creepy, another monster(s) that disturbed me were the Vathak from Extreme Ghostbusters episode Deadliners, specially considering what they are based on
The pool ghost was easily one of the best. Aside from its terrifying appearance when it's revealed, it was already frightening when you COULDN'T see it, because of how it plays on that realistic paranoia of something you can't see in the water that could hurt you, and the fear of drowning.
Me too. I have no memory watching the show but I swear I remember seeing some of these monsters on tv. I guess I thought it was Goosebumps 2.0 when I was young.
I watched the show a lot as a kid as it was one of my favorite shows, but didn't remember the grinner until I watched that episode last night... he wasn't one of the more memorable ones for me, I guess.
Funny enough, there *was* a kid's version of Tales From the Crypt. It was a Saturday morning cartoon called Tales From the Cryptkeeper. I watched it all the time xD
We also had goosebumps and ren and stimpy and rockos modern life and nightmare ned and courage the cowardly dog and catdog etc etc. Times were very different and as children we were exposed to some pretty twisted and fucked up "kid's shows" but it actually made us pretty normal adults. Kid's shows now are just too tame and PC it makes them all into little bitches.
A little sad to see this collection come to an end, I did greatly enjoy revisiting some of the scarier things from my childhood. However, I will say there was one series that I loved that you guys sadly did not cover. Anyone ever remembers a short series called "The Nightmare Room"? Was not a long show, Season One only had about 11 eps, and Season Two was cut early at only 4 eps, but I still remember it freaking me out the most. Heck, I still remember the episode that scared me the most. S1 EP2, "Scareful What You Wish For" A fun episode about what I assume is the darker half of Toy Story, staring a young Shia Labeouf! I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for that classic childhood scare! And who knows Channel Awesome. We didn't get it this time, but there is always next year! Anyone else has any great shows they remember that were not covered this October?
labyfan1313, yes indeed! It was announced last November, its tentative release will be in early October 2019, and best of all, its screenplay will be written by Gary Dauberman, who was one of the writers for 'It'!
I know everyone remembers the show for the scares (I do too), but I also remember a couple episodes to be surprisingly heartwarming, or even bittersweet at times. And I think that's what made this show so unique to me. It had depth too. My favorite heartwarming/bittersweet episodes were: The Tale of the Dream Girl The Tale of Locker 22 The Tale of the Shiny, Red Bicycle The Tale of the Secret Admirer The Tale of the Last Dance - (I've even got a personal story for this one. Years ago I was absolutely obsessed with looking up TV listings, trying to find the airing of this episode again-CZcams was a fetus and streaming wasn't invented yet, folks, this was raw. I soon discovered a listing just a month or two away and honest to God I made sure I noted that date, absolutely drilling it into my head NOT to miss this airing! That's how much I loved this episode and was so desperate to see it again.)
Holy crap that freaken pool monster, haven't seen that thing in over 20 years and still scared the crap out of me! That fricken thing gave me so many nightmares when it aired... lol I still couldnt look again after seeing him again.. by far one of the scariest monsters i've ever seen... still to this day bllggh
I used to watch as a kid back then, kinda scary too; especially Dark Music Monster what I did saw. But when I turned into adult, never afraid anymore. My friends love to watched Are you Afraid of the Dark, Ghastly Grinner was such terrifying no doubt.
The Ghastly Grinner was my personal Boogeyman. I always feared I would wake up in a zombie apocalypse where everyone are laughing idiots. Seriously, what the fuck!?
The Tale Of Dark Music is one of my all-time favourite episodes, simply BECAUSE of the ending. So rarely do you see a good villain ending in kids shows, so it just becomes all the better when twisted things like that (and the ending of Fear Soup) happen.
I think the "Monsters" that freaked me out the most from the show were the Black Figures. There is just something about the idea of being watched by unseen Shadow People form another dimension that really terrifies me.
Agreed. Literally all I could think when I saw him is “Oh, I guess Joker fell into another vat of Chemicals that gave him powers and this Time bleached his skin in a goldish color”.
OMG, I didn't know the long haired bully in that one story was the voice of Roger on "Doug." Good to know. I agree with this list, especially that creepy ass doll, the pool monster, and that vampire.
Or the Ghastly Grinner. Or the Renegade Virus! Come on, Mark Hamill would be a better guy to play the Renegade Virus than... whatever midget they got! He could've used his Py-Ro voice!!
At first I was disappointed that the skeleton ghost from dead man's float wasn't number one, but I accept your choice for number one. That vampire could give me nightmares now. And I'm 25!
I love how the tale of dead man's float is considered one of the best stories/monsters, but didn't get stig in the group. I suppose it was give him another story in the series which was not nearly as good that got him in the group and then he just stayed on the sidelines the rest of the show without telling a story.
Could you go over The Haunting hour, it's also an R.L. Stine property, but has better acting, camera work, and definitely far better writing than Gousebums. This is also a far more recent sereas than Gousebums and Are you afraid of the dark.
If the pool zombie from Tale of the Dead Man's Float isn't number 1, I will riot. That episode already got shafted once by not being listed as one of the best episodes.
Walter, you will never see this comment, but thank you for posting this video. I'm feeling severely depressed right now and this, hopefully, will help cheer me up right now
Awesome_Walter Thank you, it really did help me. Some of the designs and effects I completely forgot about, so seeing this really helped me remember a part of my childhood long forgotten. Keep up the good work brother
Best Show on NETFLIX S.2 & Up! #TwilightZone & The (Dynamite) Comicbook series' by J.M. Straczynski A few years out! & His Marvel stuff ESP. - ASM "CIVIL WAR" Through "Back in Black" & maybe his conclusionary "One more Day" Greatest Spiderman Run ever!
"The Dark Music Monster" (Well deserving of this list, a great villain for a great episode) is referred to on the Villains Wiki as 'Basement Demon.' I find that more appropriate. From the various powers it demonstrates, I'd imagine it is almost certainly some kind of demon. I always found the Ghastly Grinner really overrated. While some of the people he zombifies are kind of creepy (Especially the bus driver), I didn't feel scared of the Grinner himself. I mean, in the end, he gets taken out by the nerdy girl ERASING him, for Pete's sake! I remember as a kid, the first time I saw it, it prompted me to joke to my brother, "I guess you could say she rubbed him out!" I found that episode more comedic than scary. In place of him, I'd go with probably Nosferatu from 'The Tale of the Midnight Madness' (So freaking eerie), or perhaps the Watcher from 'The Tale of Watcher's Woods.'
I am happy the Pool Zombie was placed on this list, that monster terrified me as a kid, heck even years latter i still remember it and associate it with the show whenever i hear someone talk about "Are You Afraid of the Dark".
I think the pool monster was the first thing I ever saw on a show as a kid that actually gave me nightmares.. And also made me not wanna go swimming for a loooong time. 😓
XB1Gaming Creeper no he shouldn't. There's no point in doing a NC for that movie, every one knows it's bad and no one likes it. Everything has already been said and done about it so there isn't anything NC can add without just being a collection of all the things already said and done, and he doesn't do that. That's why there's quite a few movies he hasn't and won't do a NC for because they've already been beaten to death on the internet.
As a 6yo kid, I'm ashamed to say that #4's villain scared me so bad that I stopped watching the show altogether. I regret it now, because it is a comically corny and delightfully Canadian show, eh? Also, I just want you all to know that it took a great power to not sit here and spit out JonTron quotes here. I conquered temptation.
Because she's scarier than anything even G.R.R.M. can imagine. It's Halloween, and the thumbnail is meant to entice you. Why not put the antichrist on it?
The Pool Zombie, Count Orlok (Nosferatu vampire), Quick Silver Demon and the Ghost King from Bookish Babysitter, were stuff of my nightmares as a kid. I use to get so paranoid around the house after watching any of their episodes, always expecting one of them be in the corner somewhere!
5:07 reminds me of that story at Alcatraz where someone claimed to see red eyes in the dark room and was found dead with red handprints around their neck the officers said the inmates hands we're chained so their was no way he could have choked himself
The faceless aliens scared the shit out of me as a kid! The pool monster.... yep.... I had already been afraid to swim in deep water, but I don't think I went swimming for well over a year after watching that episode! lol
Renegade Virus should’ve made the list. It’s one of a few I remember being scared by as a kid along with Zeebo, Ghastly Grinner, Nosferatu, Hospital Vampire, Fire Ghost, and the most terrifying of all... the Pool Corpse!
I'm not at ll surprised that the pool zombie ranked so high. That monster stuck with me for years. It made me scared to swim alone and even go in the deep end unless there was someone else there with me. And I've been swimming since I was a baby. It also made me afraid of the color red for a while (weird, I know) which was no good because out washcloths were red at the time. Now, I'm actually a swim instructor (remember kids, never swim alone and always carry some mangenite with you) but I'm still amazed with how much this tale resonated with me.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! What would you like Walter to cover on a future Top 5? Let us know in the comments!

Indeed. I completely agree. 👍
I just remembered why I was afraid of pools my whole childhood

@Cognitive Chaos I have a question for you
@Cognitive Chaos
1. Did u see the new are u afraid of the dark...reboot
2. What's ur favorite are u afraid of the dark episode..also what's the show about j Never saw the original
@Cognitive Chaos oh u didn't hear... @Cognitive Chaos what u think from what I told u
Brady “We aaallll float down here!”
The dark music monster is creepy as a hell and is very casual about it.
Gaby Droz that scared me most. I will never go into a basement as long as i live.
The dark music monster was the reason why I was afraid of basements as a kid. Really scary
@Commander Oswald executioner?
He just ripsoff audrey 2
Damn that pool zombie. Even with TV budget, that thing looked legit. Wasn't the TV show supposed to be for kids?
Hahahah
Maybe that's why I refuse to be in a pool
It is, thats why its so good.
Clown guy: it's the most fun in the fuck

"...they didn't blow it!"
THE GHASTLY GRINNER GAVE me Nightmares FOR 6+ YEARS as a KID, THAT FREAK horrified me just like the Boogeyman from The Real Ghostbusters cartoon
yup, he's very creepy, another monster(s) that disturbed me were the Vathak from Extreme Ghostbusters episode Deadliners, specially considering what they are based on
Whats up Jaxblade
Same. I actually became afraid of the dark because of that dude.
Same here i hate clowns and that episode did not help.
he gave me Nghtmares to bro as a kid
Yeah, the Ghastly Grinner scared the SHIT out of me as a kid.
Fun fact: The actor that played Felix in "The Tale of the Night Shift" become the Navy Thunder Ranger in Power Rangers Ninja Storm.
animefan25 holy shit it is.
Wait, WHAT?!
I think he died in that episode too
You mean to tell me an actor in a kids show went on to be an actor in another kids show? Wow, that is a FUN FACT
Hunter Palmer stop saying $¥!5
That Ghastly Grinner stuff gives me some unpleasant flashbacks to Arkham Knight.
Anyone else think that the Gastly Grinner looks like the Joker from Batman 1989?
neffyboy There's definitely some similarities, his gimmick is even reminiscent of Joker's signature toxic gas, minus the blue drool.
I was thinking that
Same grin too.
Or pretty much any Joker besides Ledger and Leto
@@SilverHairedFreak25 I would bet the whole comic book premise is an indicator as well. ;)
The pool ghost was easily one of the best. Aside from its terrifying appearance when it's revealed, it was already frightening when you COULDN'T see it, because of how it plays on that realistic paranoia of something you can't see in the water that could hurt you, and the fear of drowning.
I have no memory of ever watching this show in general, but I do remember that Ghastly Grinner guy and it scaring me as a kid.
Basically a discount joker.
The Judge except he looks scarier, whereas the joker is just legitimately a scary person.
Dj Quinn me too! And the sandman one too!

Thanks Jontron
Oh yeah The Grinner and Pool Monster! I never forgot those 2
SAME
Can you still believe that the MNS actually didn't like "The Tale of the Dead Man's Float"?
TerryB01 lmfao “pool monster”
DITTO
The Ghastly Grinner is the only monster on the show that kept me up at night as a kid and gave me nightmares
AND NOW I REMEMBER HOW I GOT MY FEAR OF CLOWNS AND DOLLS!
MissElaneeus17 I hate it even tho I never saw this :3
I think they call that "Bozophobia" 😂
...get it?

JustSomeSush yes
Timmy Teaches yea!
And we were all better for it. If I ever have kids, I hope they'll enjoy this show and Goosebumps.
Gastly Grinner ruined my first sleepover. I had my friends mom drive me home because I couldn't sleep.
Damn, that doll is even scarier than I remember it being.
I feel that monster is the only one in the show that gets scarier the Older you get..
The doll form of the music monster absolutely terrified me as a child and it still terrifies me as an adult.
Copper Feather it's the very reason I HATE dolls and basements to this day and I'm 31 years old 😨
Copper Feather same here! It makes Linda Blair a la the exorcist look like Pee Wee Herman by comparison
How bout
Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark.

dead man's float is me favorite episode ever and the pool zombie scarred me pretty hard lol. great episode, great story, great scares :D
Factzzzz
The Ghastly Grinner easily! If there's ONE villain from AYAOTD that legit haunted me, it's definitely him!
Ghastly Grinner is scarier than anything scary I could think of as a comparison. And I can think of a lot of things...this entire show, for instance.
Icespoon watch terrifier

I really like the new “Mr. Top Hat and the Carnival of Doom” story. I can’t wait for the second episode to be released.
Went as Mr. Tophat for Halloween.
I am SO GLAD to see this list! The Ghastly Grinner and the Pool Zombie were the monsters I remembered the most from this show!
Me2
now they're working on a movie version of this!! Woooo
Really?!
labyfan1313, yes indeed! It was announced last November, its tentative release will be in early October 2019, and best of all, its screenplay will be written by Gary Dauberman, who was one of the writers for 'It'!
Nope ..no they arent
@@BBAERSTANCE1 It has an IMDB page and nothing shows that the movie was cancelled.

Jontron!
I know everyone remembers the show for the scares (I do too), but I also remember a couple episodes to be surprisingly heartwarming, or even bittersweet at times. And I think that's what made this show so unique to me. It had depth too.
My favorite heartwarming/bittersweet episodes were:

The Tale of Locker 22
The Tale of the Shiny, Red Bicycle
The Tale of the Secret Admirer
The Tale of the Last Dance - (I've even got a personal story for this one. Two-fifths of this list reminds me of JonTron...
Jontron isn’t scared of this shit. He’s a brave boy.
8bitdiedie NOT A BRAVE ENOUGH BOY FOR _THIS!_
A Str Not brave enough. He had to turn up the lights *on his tv* :)
Gracie J he had to turn up the TV brightness and his IRL brightness just to get past the creepy doll human thing.
A Str that's literally only because jontron made a AYAOTD video. If he never made that video you wouldn't have any idea to relate this.
I think the "Monsters" that freaked me out the most from the show were the Black Figures. There is just something about the idea of being watched by unseen Shadow People form another dimension that really terrifies me.
Grinner is just Robbie Rotten, I mean... he is the master of disguise
Denzy He wasn’t #1 though...
Hahahaha *help me*
The Gastly Grinner is literally the joker...

the story was good enough. they just hated the teller and for some that story alone wasn't enough to overcome that. they gave him another shot

Zeebo and the music monster though still missing the pinball one
Damn I love the vampire’s voice. So soothing to hear.
Ghastly grinner is much more scary when you are russian kid!! Trust me!
Brandon Meshok why?
Alibel Sanchez you're a kid living in Russia of 90 s. horrible af.
Brandon Meshok lot of killer clowns in russia eh?
Honourable Mention for the Fire Ghost? That's fair enough. *shudders as gets flashbacks to that episode*

What doesn't scare me: it, alien, the exercist.
What does scare me: the crimson clown
Why is Hilary Clinton in the thumbnail?
Intense Thinker HAHAHAHAHAHAA ORIGINAL JOKE 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 TOTALLY FUNNY AND NOT UNFUNNY AT ALL!!!! MY GUTS HURT HAHAHAHAHA SO FUCKING FUNNY AND WELL MADE 😂
That's not her. That's a monster from Are you afrai......oh.
Ha............
Because she's scarier than anything even G.R.R.M. can imagine. It's Halloween, and the thumbnail is meant to entice you. Why not put the antichrist on it?
nicky fresh
Found the Hillary supporter.
More like Donold trump that orange/yellow
The Pool Zombie, Count Orlok (Nosferatu vampire), Quick Silver Demon and the Ghost King from Bookish Babysitter, were stuff of my nightmares as a kid. I use to get so paranoid around the house after watching any of their episodes, always expecting one of them be in the corner somewhere!
#1 your mom

FuckAss 64 lol great username xD
I was surprised number 2 didn't make it into your top episode list. That episode made me afraid to go into the deep end for a long time.
Imagine the snowflake generation seeing this today
Tale of the night shift is my favorite and most memorable episode!
This show has the maple syrup stink of canada all over it
Loved this show as a kid. The silent librarian with the box that steals your voice always creeped me out
This is so good. This scares me more then anything now a days. It’s so creative and fucking scary and pure nostalgia
The episode with the talking dogs scarred me for life!
The fact a clown was running around with a cigar in his mouth is very cartoonish and kinda hilarious
The music monster does Lovecraftian Cosmic Horror very well.
Quicksilver, the monster in the pool, and the babysitter who turns into a monster were the one's that really scared the mess out of me!!
THANK YOU. I’ve been waiting for someone else to say something about that scary ass vampire!
I completely forgot about the vampire! Definitely freaked me out as a kid, but the ghastly grinner is the one that freaked me out the most.
The witch from Mystical Mirror should be on there too IMO. That episode scared the crap out of me when I was 8 😂
5:07 reminds me of that story at Alcatraz where someone claimed to see red eyes in the dark room and was found dead with red handprints around their neck the officers said the inmates hands we're chained so their was no way he could have choked himself
