So, did we miss any horrible Disney animated villains on this list?
Channel Awesome maker studios
Weeb Stick savage
As long as you don't mention Shere Khan, I'm good.
SHREK
Saroush
Get the horned king off the list
the horny king?
I agree take him off the list
The Burger King guy s horny.
agreed
vindurza, I agree
Edgar really IS a shit character, but..he's just SO FUCKING FUNNY 😂😂😂
Solo Sulu He's a really good character but a really shit villain.
Yeah I found him silly in his antics too.
Sir Usopp yeah
I feel like he was meant to be for comedy more than a villain. I will say, trying to hurt cats is pretty evil though
xChijouChanx exactly
Yeah Radcliffe wasn't the best villain. He should've been an entertainer. Seriously, the guy knows how to build up to a song
Gio A thank heavens we got frollo a year later.
Blu Watcher yeah a psychotic judge that sings to a fireplace about wanting to bang a gypsy, quite the improvement
Gio A yep, Disney gonna Disney. My fave disney baddie is definitely scar with hades a close second
"This is mine, mine, mine, mine. Mine, mine, mine, mine..."
I think Radcliffe and Stingy would get in a fight over that!
Yeah, savages is a damn good song, not that I support ether side of the racism
Worst Disney protagonists.
Define worst... do you mean badly written or unsympathetic? Cause the protagonist of my favorite Disney movie could arguably be the single least sympathetic protagonist in the Disney animated canon, to the point that until the end he's almost a villain, however him being unsympatehtic at first is the crux of the film's plot and his character arc.
Wait... are you talking about Cars?
I assume badly written.
All of them before Aladdin.
Oliver from ,,Oliver & Company" and Ariel from ,,Little Mermaid".
My top 10 Best Animated Disney Villains
10. Captain Hook
9. Prince John and Sir Hiss
8. Percival C. McLeach
7. Dr. Facelier
6. Cruella DeVille
5. Lady Tremaine
4. Yzma
3. Ratigan
2. Tie: of Maleficent and Hades
1. Judge Claude Frollo
I need to give honorable mentions to
Shere Khan and Kaa
Jafar
Scar
Gaston
Ursula
Commander Rourke
King Candy
James Moyner Where is Scar and Jafar?
What about Scar ?
Thank you for putting Judge Frollo on the number one spot! He is such an underrated villain.
James Moyner Maleficent over Hades no question
I don't have a problem with Ratcliffe being on this list, but Savages is not a subpar song by any stretch. It's probably one of the film's few highlights.
Yeah especially that part when you see all 3 parties singing at the same time.
+
Somewhat agree. The movie is a 6/10 for me, I think Ratcliffe is an awful, boring villain, but yes, Savages is one of 3 great songs in Pocahontas imo.
The great late David Odgen Stiers' voice acting for Ratcliffe is the main and only saving grace of this character to me.
It's lyrics aren't exactly great though. They're pretty on-the-nose considering they include "They're different from us, which means they can't be trusted".
Savages is a great song and I'm upset that you called it sub-par.
True. Savages is a classic. Have you heard the cover of Jonathan Young & Caleb Hyles? It's epic.
The cover is great, it actually infuses the song with the energy it needs. The original song lacks this energy, and the multiple singers don't combine well enough for the song to reach it's full potential.
fossilfighters101 To be fair, I think he just considered the parts with Radcliff to be subpar. I personally love the song too, it's a memorable show of how easy fear and anger can turn into unbridled hostility.
"This is what we feared
The pale face is a demon
The only thing they feel at all is greed
Behind that milky hide
There's emptiness inside
I wonder if they even bleed!
"They're not like you and me, which means they must be evil..."
Or it means you're racist to natives!
Hehe, honestly Brickmaster, I don't think Radclifee was racist, I think he just hates anyone in his way and uses any excuse to turn people against them.
Which in some ways might be even worse than being racist, because at least being racist is a blunt acknowledgement of your hate, not an opportunistic power grab.
I agree with 4-2, but The Horned King is fantastic. His presence is felt all through out the film and when you see him you can see why. I agree he isn't in it enough and his death (while awesome) is kinda lackluster, it doesn't take away from his presence. His calm and intimidating personality is cool too, although I actually like the Black Cauldron so maybe I just love this villain for that.
I agree. I do see what he is saying about wasted potential but I think that really applies to the movie as a whole. He was the best part about the entire movie!
indeed, can't really blame the apples when the whole fruit bowl is lacking in taste.
The movie and concept all had really good potential but it seems like the writers did not take enough time to make everything right. that and the movie should probably have been a least 30 min longer to fit everything that now felt short-cutted.
When it comes to the horned king, there are many villains in disney i don't even want to see because they are so annoying or very lackluster. Horned king is not one of them, he may be still be very lackluster but his presence and his design is astonishing so it's a joy to see him. I would want to see see how he would have performed if the writers had done a good job with the movie in the first place.
He doesn't DO anything.
Nobody does anything in that disgrace of animation.
Spaceballs: Do something! Do something! _...Do something!_
The Horned King does something that Saruman later perfected in Lord of the Rings: Presence. Even if you don't see him very much, his actions and the threat he poses are never not there in some way. He doesn't need to be in the spotlight to be good. I think he's the only Disney villain to give me chills up my spine.
That said, there wasn't much individuality about him. He was a stock villain without development that's easily forgotten in favor of other villains who stand out more prominently. Again the same thing could be said about the movie as a whole, but it's important to recognize the flaws in what we love too.
@akuma, an absence of a villain doesn't make them better villains and it doesn't make them ominous unless the characters talk about the character with dread. The danger there is when the reveal comes, people ARE going to feel cheated. That illusion crumbles when its a rotting corpse, that has no explanation, or backstory, or anything memorable, really. Its one of the reasons that shitflick pisses me off so much, he was a non-character.
Okay, but the Horned King looks cool as fuck.
Brandon Polk plus the whole, "see how easily they were defeated" when we're talking Disney. The protagonists are always youthful, inexperienced, and generally weaker/smaller than their villains. Like Ursula obtains god powers of the sea and is killed by a boat. Horned King genuinely intimidated me as a kid, he had such a commanding presence that gave me an uneasy feeling that only Malificent came close to giving. He doesn't belong on this list
Megumi Goose I couldn't agree more. I somehow missed the Black Cauldron growing up, but even watching it for the first time as an adult I was not expecting such a dark character in a Disney movie. I can only imagine what he would've been like as a kid. While overall I don't think the Black Cauldron really compares to most of the Disney classics, it's still a unique film in their library, and one that more people need to give a shot.
Malificent dosent even come close to the horned king and by channel awesomes arguments deserves this list more.
Barely in the movie? Check
Wasted potential? Check
Plan that revolves around waiting 16 years? Not even good on paper
Stupid death scene? Horned king had a brutal death scene Malificent get sworded by someone much smaller once and dies...weak
Well that';s probably why he is sporting nr. 5 on this list (though the list is pretty meh imo) Being nr. 5 on the list of the worst characters actually means he is the best of these characters for one reason or another.
He looks undead... and that's it.
We can do better.
The movie industry can do better.
Dude, it's "Sai" and Am. Si and Am. Siam. Cause they're Siamese. It's a pun. How do you miss that?
Jon Baley +
Jon Baley Thank you!!!! I blurted that out as I was watching.
I refuse to see Edgar as a bad villain even if he is incompetent, he still had more personality and believeable motivations than most other Disney villains.
He is an example of a completely ordinary guy becoming a villain for mundane reasons, which was completely fine for the story he was in.
He's just meh
I'm not gonna lie I always thought that climactic battle between Edgar and the Alley Cats was always kinda fun even if it does make Edgar look like a total dumbass
DeathKnightofAnime I always feel that movie is meant to be more comedy then serious thus why Edger is a joke.
I loved that climax too.
I can think of a much better Disney comedy where the villain is both a joke and capable of being legitimately threatening
@@FireBlastStudios forgive this for being three years later, but who?
@@neo-clik3713 Yzma from The Emperor’s New Groove
Horned King is far from being a bad villain. Wasted potential possibly but not a bad villain. wtf
Charlotte of Sound he kind of looks like the lich from adventure time
Matthew The lich from adventure time is actually ispired by the horned king. Use your local google for more information. ;-)
Being, just undead, isn't memorable. Not even in D&D or Warhammer lore is that noteworthy by itself.
We didn't even have a decent "good vs evil" story here.
We had an angry and bitter Disney, gone was the golden era of animation, whose films of the 70s and early 80s were now garbage and of poor reception.
He missed the occasion to get a good name; he should have go for The Horny King, way more vicious!
@@abloogywoogywoo honestly he does stand out for attempting omnicide to become a god.
Cabbages! Cabbages!
Mad Bro Sheo sandwiches.
What can you expect
From filthy little coal crops?
Here's what you get when the vegetables are diverse
Their skin's a puky green
They're only good when smashed
They're disgusting, as I said
And worse:
They're cabbages! Cabbages!
Barely even edible
Cabbages! Cabbages!
Drive them from our plates!
They're not liked by you and me
Which means they must be evil
We must sound the drums of war!
They're Cabbages! Cabbages!
Dirty disgusting devils!
Now we sound the drums of war!
Cabbages! Cabbages! Barely even healthy! Cabbages! Cabbages! Drive them from our store!
Mad Bro Sheo MY CABBAGES!!!!!!!
Sandwiches! Sandwiches!
I actually like Ratcliffe, seems more realistic. He's no Frollo but he's fun
And even if he's underwhelming compared to other Disney villains, I think Ratcliffe has one of the best character introductions in a film. When we first see him board the ship and he walks across the bridge, a rat scurries aboard on a rope just below, creating some nice symbolism.
He's meh
I hate it when people say worst when they mean least favorite. Half of this list had personal reasons for them. Also, how can you say David Ogdin Styre's voice is obnoxious? It's audio gold.
A.) Worst is an opinionated word
B.) He made this, what do you expect?
C.) That's your opinion
@@Garfewloid An opinion can diferentiate between what you like and what qualities emanate from the object you're talking about. Of course it's an opinion, but you can talk about your favourites or what is inherently good or bad according to a fundamented criteria. There's a lot of people who dislike Frollo because he's so unconfortable and boring to them, but the character is objectively complex and has layers of thematic resonance to the messages of the movie he's in and has a rich conflict with his ideals. But of course, he can be a bad character because I don't like him and it's my opeinien as well as apples are purple because it's my opinien, and black people should be slaved because it's my opinien. Relativism doesn't work, if you state an opinion prepare to face someone else with a different point of view and see who has the best arguments.
Thanks OP for your statement
@@thewindthatblows Yeah I get it now. I hate looking at old comments now lmao
just like with the jillions of other worst/best of lists on you tube, its not so much as whats best or worst , its the user playing least and most favorite. for example, i can say that i hated scar from the lion king because he was a campy queeny character but still a good villian .he just happens to be a least favorite character but not necessarily a bad villian
@@bicwhittle7820 600 years ago everyone thought the Earth was flat. If most people don't differentiate between their tastes and an intention to make analytical approaches, it still isn't a valid reason to say it's not a flawed criteria hahaha
I never understood why Si and Am were considered villains. They are just mischievous, just like all cats.
Jordon Veatch Most. Mine usually aren't.
Nah they're not little assholes like those two
Jordon Veatch I always thought the rat was the villain of Lady and the Tramp
So hearing the cats were the villains years later was a surprise to me
Me too, and it's so strange because the rat is just being a rat too. He has that evil face, but maybe he is just having a bad day haha
I agree all cats are villains accept the cats that think they're dogs, those are the coolest cats.
But I like Edgar...
I'd bet you would Mr. Poe.
Edgar Allan Poe Quoth the Raven, "I ♡ Edgar"
isn't hating the cats good? Like, that's the point right?
I love that Lady and the tramp cats song!
A great villain is someone you enjoy watching and have a definitive style, not hate watching and being bland/forgetable.
Transform987 well yes and no. First, not all good villains make you hate them. Some are charming deceivers that make you like them, and others are just plain fun and charismatic (like some versions of the Joker or Freddy Krueger). Also, for the cats and other bad villains it's not hate because of the dickish things they did but hate because they're annoying. When you hate a good villain you still enjoy their screen time.
Wow, you dog people are all dicks
And also reason of all that cat villains and dog heroes, just come on thats not fair
That's not always true...sometimes cats are the heroes and dogs (or other animals..or even humans) are the villains. Examples: Cats Don't Dance, Oliver & Company, The Aristocats....anyone else wanna name some more?!
The horned king was just in the wrong film
Exactly, he carried the movie.
Hans from frozen is the worst his twist came out of nowhere and it's simply from the writers is "Oh crap we need a villian let's
Throw Hans in people won't know it"
Anthony Barratt Completely agree!!!
This.
Anthony Barratt I mean, the hints were there.
in what way?
There were no hints. At the beginning he acted good even when no one was looking and he had no reason to.
NO EDGAR IS THE BEST VILLAIN IN ALL OF ANIMATION FIGHT ME
If you're argument for the Horned King being on this list is that he could have had so much more potential despite having some good things going for him when you left Alameda Slim off the list, you should probably rethink how you make these lists.
And, also, how dare you call "Savages" a sub-par song. Even if it isn't as impactful as a similar predecessor "The Mob Song" in Beauty and the Beast, it's still a very well written and performed song that's just more underrated when compared to other songs from the film and the Disney Renaissance.
At the very least, I do thank you for leaving Percival C. McLeach off of the list. He's definitely a definition of underrated greatness and I'm glad that you enjoyed watching it as much as George C. Scott had a blast playing the role.
Jafar is the worst villain, because I like him more than the protagonist.
I feel that way about a lot of the disney villians of that time. They so often just seem to steal the show. They make it hard not to sympathize with them or just enjoy how much fun they have being evil.
I feel like in an alternate universe Jafar is the protagonist resorting to skulduggery and evil magic so he can claim the throne from the bumbling idiot of a Sultan and save Agrahba
You like the rapey middle aged man more than the whiny orphaned pickpocket? I can see that, and I'm disturbed by that fact.
I have to sadly agree with you.
Going to have to disagree with the number one spot choice. I mean the guy was basically attempting to kick off a genocide there. Which with that crowd was not hard, I'll give you that. (and let's leave actual history out of this debate as the movie certainly leaves out actual history.) But I still think he's a stronger villain then this list suggests. He's a liar that will point fingers at people who are not like him to aim hatred at them from the people he himself is using, all for his own gain. And he doesn't care who gets hurt. Something that still strikes true these days, and why I feel he does not belong on this list, much less the number one spot.
If we are being honest, Si and Am shouldn't even be considered villains. One: they only appear in one scene and that is the same scene they are introduced in and Two: the only bad thing they did was mess up the house a little and framed Lady.
The only purpose they served at all really was to move the plot forward so that Lady would meet up with Tramp again. At least with all the other villains on this list, they actually contributed something to the plot.
Personally, I always considered the sitter to be the main villain of that movie, seeing as she already started off antagonistic to Lady and continued to be a bitch both to Lady, Tramp, and the other dogs throughout the whole movie. It just so happens that her cats were weirder and more memorable than her, thus she was overshadowed.
Actually, Radcliffe's voice was one of his few redeeming qualities. I'm guessing Disney wanted to get the most out of their David Ogden Stiers so that's why they had him sing so much.
Love black cauldron, wish they did the Horned King more justice, he had such potential..
I love Edgar, he is an incompetent asshole but he is funny, since he is used well in the film. And as for realism, a few people I've met come to my mind when I see him...
the song "Savages" from Pocahontas is amazing
In my opinion, the scenes with just Edgar, Napoleon, and Lafayette are the best parts of The Aristocats. They should've had their own movie.
One more thing....the song "Savages".....subPAR???!!
Right?? That's my favorite song in the entire movie
Plus, I always love saying the line “I’m the leader” and I imitate the hillbilly accent as well whenever I say it.
The Horned King? Are you serious? He's probably the best Disney Villain ever made.
Even people who hate Black Cauldron think he's the best thing about the movie.
Mudkip971 I never heard of the black cauldron
It's an underrated movie
The movie is not as bad as people made it out to be, but it's decent. The villain has a cool design and death scene, i don't find him one of the best villains tho.
He looks really intimidating but as far as personality goes, there's not much to him.
Mudkip971 true. Impressive design, intimidating and has an air that's a rival of maleficent. But honestly I find he was undermined by that damn goblin that was always with him. It RUINED his screentime, and I'm always mentally screaming for him to just kill the little gremlin.
I don't know why, and it might just be the goblin, but I can NEVER remember watching that movie and only hazily remember the Horned King and dragons i think... and I gave it a watch sometime a few months ago. I don't even recall the hero. Disappointed every time. That's all I remember.
It's criminal you included Prince John in the beginning slideshow.....
my least favorite Disney villain, the prince from frozen
Why does everyone dislike Hans?
He fooled everyone by being kind, cute and helpful. His reveal was something completely unexpected for a Disney movie. Especially considered, we had an obvious villain with Weaselton. And he was so diabolic and cold when he suddenly dropped his mask at Anna and left her to die in that room. After all this time pretending that he loved her.
Maybe not the best villain, but definitely not the worst.
I don't hate the guy. I just don't find him all that convincing as a villain
I had a lot of non-Hans related problems with Frozen but the biggest problems with evil!Hans for me is how little buildup and screentime he actually had as a villain. The reveal is in the last 10-15 minutes and wipes out what little personality and agency Hans had up to that point.
or how his actions contradict his motives and there are way more easier ways to take over.
Zane Fukkatsu Agreed
Si and Am were the villains? I thought they were just really annoying jerks (as a kid. As an adult I thought they were rather jarring stereotypes). I actually thought the Rat was the villain.
My least favorite is Hans from Frozen. I don't hate him because I love Frozen, I hate him because he's kind lame. He's just boring to me. "I wanna rule a kingdom!" Deep bro
I have a soft spot for Pocahontas. I've just always really enjoyed it, even as a kid. I feel like Ratcliffe is redeemed with the Savages song, I think that's a very good and very villainous song. Baddies like the villains in Tarzan and Atlantis (both of which have names that I can't even remember) are much worse imo.
Katie Ruby Clayton is the baddy from Tarzan. I know some people with that last name, and whenever I say it I imagine Tarzan making the gunshot sound. I don't remember the name of the generic greedy mercenary from Atlantis, but he was a rather small part of the film.
I treat movies like Atlantis and The Black Cauldron as Odyssey's. Like The Fellowship of the Ring. There is no real villain, just a series of obstacles during an adventure.
Clayton is a meh villain, but his death by hanging on a vine is iconic. And Commander Rourke is one of the best of the best, idk what you're talking about.
I know he wasn't on this list, but I feel like Shan Yu also had some wasted potential. Sure he looks intimidating, and yes we see the aftermath of the village battle, but i wish we got to see more of him in the movie.
Yougotsblounchsked maybe he'll be better in the remake
Absolutely agree! My biggest problem with Shan Yu is his small screentime.
Thomas Nethery too bad, Shan Yu won’t be in the remake. The villain will be a female antagonist, a witch ;-;
@Eli GOZDIFF yeah I was xD
@@pleer6874 actually it’s a bootleg Shan Yu who’s nowhere near as intimidating.
I can't believe you didn't include Kron from Dinosaur (2000)... easily one of the least 3 Dimensional and corniest villains in the Disney roster.
9TheMiddleMan9 At least he's eaten alive by his own birds. That's probably one of that darkest deaths ever.
Huh? Kron feel of a cliff. You are thinking of Professor/Doctor, cannot remember which, Screw Eye from We're Back which is not a Disney film.
+Saphiria TheBlueDragonKnight Nya, yes, Screw Eye was an amazing intimidating non Disney villian.
Few people know this but in a deleted scene they were going to explain the background of the character. Apparently when he was little he was lying on the grass and a grain fell in their eye. A crow jumped over him and pecked his eye, taking it off and also hitting his brain, nullifying his ability to feel happiness. After that he became the counterpart of his twin brother. And the rest is history.
I think it's important to add that crows are the bodily representation of what little remains of the fear in the beautiful future from which he and his brother come.
Tomoko Kuroki Amazing how you explained his background story wrong. Do your research again.
+SoramimiKeiki Nya? That's what I read in a magazine article many years ago. If that information is wrong then explain me. It seemed logical to me that he was afraid of crows because they ripped off an eye and that he was incapable of laughing because he literally couldn't.
5. Hans from Frozen
4. Hans from Frozen
3. Hans from Frozen
2. Hans from Frozen
1. Hans from Frozen
Tristan Powell
I agree with all 5
I think you can just put Frozen on a general list of Disney worsts.
Yeah, I used to like Frozen, but looking back and remembering the movie, now my opinion of it is "eh... I'd rather watch other stuff." I understand why people like it though.
W E A R E S I A M E S E I F Y O U P L E A S E
Writing like that is a lot more annoying then I imagined.
The Horned King is awesome. Probably the best part about The Black Cauldron, which is honestly overhated.
I'd probably replace him with Clayton or Amos Slade, but the rest of the list is solid.
Fun fact: the historical Governor Ratcliffe was actually a decent guy who wanted peace between the colonists and the natives, but ended up getting tortured to death by the Powhatans
Adaptational villainy
Finally someone recognise the siamise song is fucking annoying 😾
Random guy it's my fav cringey song ever
It's made to be annoying and it works. Each time I hear it, I want to smash things onto my speakers to end the noise.
we are Siamese if you please....
I was kind of hoping Hans would be on the list, oh well it's still a great list of worst Disney villains
WJZAV the reason I'm not a fan is because it came out of no where it's like the writes panicked and quickly wrote him in as a replacement villain there wasn't even any foreshadowing hinting that he was the villain I just found the plot twist sloppy
I personally wanted Bellwether on this list. She suffers from the same problems as Hans: she's sweet for most of the film, but suddenly turns evil out of nowhere during the climax.
How would you like i if Bashful from Snow White turned out to be evil at the last minute? Or Flower from Bambi?
TheLandOfTea That's because he was. Elsa was supposed to be the villain of the film (which is closer to the original book) until the songwriters wrote Let it Go which made Disney want her to be a protagonist. They still needed a villain however, so they chose Hans.
exactly, Hans shows nothing sinister or sounds sinister at all until he's just suddenly revealed as the villain, it was a fairly weak twist
1. Medusa scared the shit out of me as a kid
2. I think Edgar is hilarious; especially when the dogs are chasing him
3. The Siamese cat song is classic.
3. Not anymore unfortunately.
Si is pronounced like "sigh". Not "see". That's the joke with the song. "Sigh" and "Am" like Siamese.
Also, Radcliffe is HILARIOUS! He isn't the worst. Hans is much worse.
We are siamese if you please.
God that song will never leave my head.
Edgar at #2?? He's an underrated villain!
I appreciate how Edgar becomes a villain simply because he overthinks the implications of being in 2nd place and commits to it. With the exception of a few other Disney villains, he actually gets away with his plan at first! That leads to a great dynamic shift with the introduction of the farm dogs Napoleon and Lafayette, who you actually grow to dislike more than Edgar only because their reputation for chasing any vehicle down the road makes them an automatic nuisance, compared to Edgar's case which can be understandable.
But there's one thing with Edgar by which I'm thoroughly impressed, and that's how he behaves after he's executed his plan. He overthinks things once more by sinking into the pride generated from reading the newspaper report and realizes that the few items he had left behind at the countryside could implicate him in the crime. He backtracks! Someone please suggest another Disney villain who works so hard to make sure no evidence of his involvement remains. This leads to the sequence in which he sneaks to retrieve his hat, umbrella, and motorcycle sidecar from the dogs. I've seen plenty of films from all years of cinema and that sequence remains one of the most suspenseful I've ever seen in any film while also making for a compelling side quest from the cats' relatively simple "get from A to B and survive doing it" storyline.
People love to focus on how he got beaten by cats that they don't seem to notice that he is one of the more well-written disney villains.
No, Radcliff was awesome! He does not deserve being in the bottom five with Madame Medusa and Edgar. He may not be Scar or Jafar, but he speaks heavily to the developing colonialist Britain and the capitalist sense of entitlement that came with being the upper crust of that society. It was one if my favorite films growing up, and part of it is the simplicity of the villain compared to the complex issues raised by his appearance in an otherwise perfected way of life.
Edgar should be lower on this list.
He's meh
I love Ratclife, I love his look and voice and he's an appropriate villain given the context of the film. Also, shame on you for showing McLeach as a sorta honorable mention, he was wonderfully voiced by the late George C. Scott Not every Disney Villain needs to be competent, smart or typically menacing.
I agree! Absolutely agree with you!
The Horned King is a combination of two characters from the book: partially a more minor character of the same name, but primarily Arawn Death-lord, who is more of a Sauron style villain. Disney didn't exactly do a good job with this.
Honestly, the Horned King is not only bad because he has wasted potential, he's bad because he really does nothing evil. He occasionally strangles his servant, but that's it! Most of the time he just sits in his chair and broods. Plus, he looks a little like an Army of Darkness villain. John Hurt's performance is good though.
he was going to take the meat out of a man's body with magic on screen, but they removed it
Black Cauldron as a whole feels lackluster. It's not as bad as most bad Disney sequels and I wouldn't blame anyone for liking it, but it falls short of really delivering on the "epic fantasy" feel. The Horned King is scary, but yeah, he doesn't really do anything. It would've been a nice opportunity to commit to some really horrible stuff. I know people who had nightmares from Scar/Ursula/etc, hardly anybody I know really remembers the Horned King.
He tries to take over the world with an army of the undead, how is that not evil?
The Reviewer Well, compare him to lets say Maleficent. While her plan is weaker, what she does to get it done is pretty evil indeed like turn into a dragon and kidnap Prince Phillip. The King on the other hand, doesn't even leave his castle and occasionally just strangles his servant. That's what I meant by not doing anything evil.
I think a good comparison is Sauron from the Lord of the Rings, and his Nazguls.
Sauron is the "evil" that sits in his tower and broods. Aside from the early scene in Fellowship of the Ring(and later in the Hobbit trilogy), he barely does anything that seems Evil. He is more just a force of nature(which is actually not that far from the truth).
His Nazguls, on the other hand, are scary, as they are actively doing evil. Sneaking and Shrieking, these are creatures you do not want to see in the middle of the night.
The Horned King is similar to Sauron. He is the "force of evil", but doesnt really "act" evil. You know he is supposed to be the bad guy, but you dont really fear him.
Maleficent on the other hand, is a direct threat. She can turn herself into a terrible dragon and actively does evil.
Basically, a good Villain is a good Antagonist. Someone our hero(or heroes) have to overcome and defeat, despite the difference in power. And we enjoy watching them do evil(the "cool factor").
Aside from his looks, the Horned King does not have any "cool factor". We dont really want to learn more about him and we dont know what he is capable of, except for the fact that "him getting a special item is bad for us".
"You know who else is the Top 5 worst Disney Animated movie villain? "
"MY MOM!!! "
Raymond Jameson, regular show reference!!!!😁😁😁
Raymond Jameson What? I thought Ursula was a great villain.
Raymond Jameson Muscle Man is that you?
Shouldn't you be hanging out with Hi-five Ghost?
ɮoʊnċɛ օʄʄ wow, guess you don't watch Regular Show...and apparently you don't know how to read comments either
Great countdown! I find it amusing that you found Radcliffe's voice obnoxious, as his voice actor voiced two of my favorite Disney side characters (Cogsworth and Dr. Jumba Jookiba). Love your Disney Top Fives!!
really disagree with your number 1 pick and saying that Dig up Virginia and Savages are weak songs
In pretty sure his name is Si pronounced like Psy, not ci. Because he and the other one make Siam. Like Siamese cats.
Man, Disney really screwed up The Black Cauldron. It DID have potential, but they mixed two villains (The Horned King and Arawn.) And they combined two books (The Book of Three and The Black Cauldron.) In the books, he's a good villain. Why did they screw it up so much? Le sigh....
Because Disney lost its identity and didn't understand why all the kids were all into D&D now.
Basically, they're a bunch of soulless sellout f**ks who wanted to make as much money as they could, as quickly as they could off an ill-gotten intellectual property.
Idk, MacCleach was pretty evil in my opinion. Trophy-hunting animals and almost killing a kid via dangling him over a pit of crocodiles so they can tear him limb from limb? That's pretty dastardly.
I would have included everyone in Chicken Little, everyone in that movie was so awful, they may as well have been villains.
Mulan's villain, ugh such a waste, can't even remember the name
Ryan Vincett Shan Yu
Damian Charleston I guess but at least remember something about everyone else
He gets to touch and threaten the Emperor of China with a knife. If that a waste, I don't know what it is.
Maybe, but I mean he did take out an Army and burn down a village full of innocent people.
When they come across the burning village caused by him...that's pretty cold. He definitely has an intimidating design and such, but in the end, he was more a vehicle to show Mulan's heroism than a standout villain on his own
Aww the Asian stereotype cats are my favorite bad guys
George Gant aww
The Black Cauldron was just a bad adaptation...which is basically what happens when you take the third in a book series and try to make it a standalone story.
Channel Awesome can you do the Top 10 Worst Disney Sitcoms.
Maleficent will always be my favorite Disney villan
Which one? XD
WJZAV the one from sleeping beauty
the one that's actually a villain
WJZAV ...I'm pretending that live action version never happened. Seriously, Maleficent was great being evil for being evil. She didn't need a lover scorned and betrayed backstory.
The Horned King was the best thing about the Black Cauldron and often forgotten about due to how badly the film did. I actually think he's a pretty great villain, he's definitely in my top 5.
I honestly thought Hans from Frozen was the worst villain! He had no reason to be a bad guy. Elsa clearly gave up on being queen, so all he would have to do is marry Anna and he would be king.
I actually really liked John Hurt as the Horned King...
He was probably the only animated villain that sorta scared me when I first watched it, along with Maleficent when you see her for a split second in the burnt-out fireplace (right before she lures Aurora through the fireplace)...
Love that Aku shirt👍
What about Clayton from Tarzan? He was almost as bad as Ratcliffe.
Clayton never got as annoying nor did he take up half the screen time like Ratcliffe. Clayton was also legitimately intimidating in the third act of that movie, and his death scene was satisfying and memorable.
Not one of Disney's best villains by any stretch, but FAR better than Ratcliffe.
I'd argue for different reasons.
Crews Owen Rawrk is worse.
Honestly I'd say the worst Disney villain is either Hans from Frozen, or that yodeling cow-hypnotist dude from Home on the Range.
Here’s my top 5 worst Disney villains:
5. Madame Medusa (The Rescuers)
4. Governor Ratcliffe (Pocahontas)
3. Alameda Slim (Home on the Range)
2. Edgar (The Aristocats)
1. Rourke (Atlantis: The Lost Empire)
Well i do love horned king madame medusa si and AM Edgar Balthazar and Governor Ratcliffe
Do a review of the emoji movie
No.
what is its nostalgic connection?
Tyrant Trollcraft everyone already has
Tyrant Trollcraft they did
"Savages" was a damn good song that gave me chills and it it still just as relevant nowadays as it was back in those times.
I would put Aunt Sara on this list because as a kid, I saw her (and still see her) as a villain because being a huge dog lover, I hated the way she treated Lady. The fact that she owned 2 bad cats and obviously coddled them, well, I have an extremely low opinion of her. But my least favorite Disney villain is Frolo.
Zodia195 I was thinking the exact same thing. I never could stand Aunt Sara 😬
The "weakest" for me is the villian of BH6, Professor Robert Callaghan! simply forgettable character...
I do not see Si and Am as "villains" to me they are more antagonistic jerks than REALLY bad guys.
The Random Guys and Gurls Yokai Watch with me
Seriously, this list was a massive stretch and it's clear you had no good candidates to pick. It's offical. Channel Awesome lists are on the same level as WatchMojo (except for Nostalgia Critic ones)
No list of the worst Disney villains is complete without Alameda Slim.
I guess that Siamese song is Walter's "bat credit card" trigger. Rob... where are you?
I personally enjoy tf outta Savages...even though it's probably Disney's most racist song.
I think a lot of the songs were a good betrayal of the struggles. Colors of the Wind was pointing out that the white man just came and claimed whatever land they wanted without concern, and that they only thought people who looked and acted like them were people
Savages points out that they both had similar thoughts of each other, really.
Didn't the...Jim Crow crows in Dumbo have a song as well? Can't remember for sure but I'd bet that is much worse than Savages.
#5 = His design/animation and Hurt's performance are great but we don't see him do anything (we just hear about it).
#4 = She serves her purpose, not every villain has to be a show stopper, restrained works but she's pretty jarring.
#3 = Their twisted faces still freak me out. They're not villains though, the film doesn't have one, just dog problems.
#2 = He's funny more then threatening, as you said, it's hard to make a credible villain who looses to a bunch of cats.
#1 = Preening fop, he can be fun but he's too goofy. The story's mean't to have a heavier tone, he needed to be ruthless.
The clips of the Horned King that were shown remind me of the cutscenes in the Zelda CDI games...
Well if nothing else Edgar did give us that wonderful dog chase scene :3
I'm pretty upset that general ratcliff was 1st
0:40 WTH? What's McLeach doing on here? That guy's awesome, remove him immediately!
Also, thank you so much for not going "OMG racist!" with the Siamese cats. I have a deviantART friend who's Asian, and she's not bothered by them in the slightest.
The siamese cats actually scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. I've forgotten pretty much everything about the movie by now, except that one shot where these fuckers sneakily come out of the shadows...
Walter, you're just the smoothest geek. Love all your videos and your skits too. Thanks from the UK.
NOSTALGIA CRITIC TREASURE PLANET!!!!
...why? ? There are more people who like it than you think. Why add to a dying flame?
MASSEFFECTfan101 cause it's a forgotten classic which could do with a bit of love, you do know they do good movies as well
He already did that film for the first Disneycember back in 2011. Check it out if you haven't watched it yet!
Saying the horned king is a bad villain is like saying Sauron is a bad villain. They both barely show up in their films, they both look intimidating, and they both get wiped out when the source of their power is turned against them. Neither is designed to be to be a villain they're more of a driving force for the hero's quest.
Are you really comparing *SAURON* to a butchered Disney villain that's two characters from different books mangled together?
Just accept the film is bad and enjoy average, no, enjoy GOOD films.
Personally, I thought Hans was the worst. There was no hinting at him being a villian, it just came out of nowhere because they decided Let It Go didn't sound like a villian song. They could have made it more interesting with Ana kissing Hans, nothing happening, and they show the big difference between true love and just infatuation.
I’d argue that Ratcliffe suffered due to the failure to take a risk. Ratcliffe would have been arguably a better villain if he embodied the serious themes of imperialism and racism. It would’ve been VERY controversial but seeing how Frollo was so memorable for ‘hellfire’, Ratcliffe could have become one of the most terrifying villains of them all.
I don't mean to be rude Walter but I think you are biased towards Si and Am from Lady and the Tramp personally I love the song they sing and it ended up on the Disney's Greatest Hits Volume Three CD and The Now That's What I Call Disney 2 CD. The other three villains you mentioned I can understand because they are horrible, although I don't know if they would be my pick especially since The Aristocats is one of my favorite movies just not for the villain, and I can't say anything about The Black Cauldron because I've never seen it. Also, in my opinion you missed one, Prince John from Disney's Robin Hood, a Disney movie which I despise.
Jonathan Teter Prince John is a hilarious villain though
I think you are definitely right about the Si and Am song! It is my favourite song in the movie becase of the overall vibe. Then again, I thing that the German version, which I saw as a kid, has a few rimes that are cleverer than the English one. And King John should have been on this list! I dreadded every second that he was on screen!
Jonathan Teter the only problem for me in that list is those cats their not exactly vilians their more of a obstacle
Jonathan Teter Disagree on Prince John. He was a super memorable villain. He might not have been intimidating, but he was interesting and has stuck with me for decades now. Disagree on Robin Hood too. I love that movie.
I like how you say he's biased, but then say how much you love the song, and even know which cds the song ended up on. I hope you were just joking in the end just cause the irony is too thick here.
I think you're forgetting Sykes from Oliver and Company, Hans from Frozen, Shan Yu from Mulan, Rico and Slim from Home on the Range, and Bellwether from Zootopia
Benjamin Burt Sykes tried to run the heroes over with his car, Shan Yu killed a shit ton of people (even if it was offscreen we still know of the carnage he made) and Bellwether's plan really happened but with drugs.
Shan Yu is actually a deadly and amazing villain, plus Slim and Bellwether are great
I'm surprised that Ratcliffe got the top spot, especially for his voice. That's Mr Krabs, Lex Luthor, Savage Oppress, Rhino, and Captain Stacy you're complaining about.
And yeah, Pocahontas wasn't that good. But Savages was such a great song...
The Horned King was the darkest yet most underrated Disney villain ever.
Hans from Frozen.
Sorry but when you put the horned King on this list, I gave up on this video already.
joey8062 true
The Horned King has a great design but that's about all he has going for him.
Great man, NOW YOU GOT THAT SIAMESE SONG IN MY HEAD, THANKS XD
When McLeach was flashed at the beginning of the video I thought I was going to be mad at you for a minute...
That Aku shirt is awesome!
