After killing her mother in childbirth, growing up in San Francisco with her father and stepmother, attempting suicide, and moving to Los Angeles, Sarah (Robin Tunney) makes a brief stab at popularity at her new Catholic high school. Ostracized due to the untrue kiss-and-tell tales of football player Chris (Skeet Ulrich), Sarah reluctantly befriends a trio of self-styled outsiders: the horribly scarred Bonnie (Neve Campbell), the trailer-trash Nancy (Fairuza Balk), and Rochelle (Rachel True), a frequent victim of anti-black prejudice at the hands of Laura Lizzie (former Marcia Brady and future Mrs. Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor). After exhibiting latent telekenitic powers in front of Bonnie, Sarah learns that her three new friends have chosen her as their "fourth corner," the final member of their supernatural coven. Using tools stolen from a local incense-and-candle-filled boutique for practitioners of magic, the quartet summons the power of Manon, a primitive deity, to exact revenge on their tormentors and transform their lives. Drunk with power, they watch their spells get out of control, and the new coven soon realizes that with magic, "whatever you give comes back three-fold." This mid-'90s horror flick scored first place at the box office its opening weekend despite its then-unknown cast and modest budget. This was so Iconic. There was no internet during that era and people would copy this ritual and they got into trouble at school.
I never copied anything I watched. I mean, I stole looks for my outer appearance but I'm sure that's about it. Nothing too over the top tho. Over the top to me was trying to put twisties in my hair, & leaving shampoo in there so I could have "dreads" like the dudes from korn. But I tried to get everything out before my parents ever caught me. Everything else weird was on my own 😅. I def have never practiced witch craft tho. Also, Bonnie? I was over your cha chas since way back.

Even though the other girls ended up not being serious or respectful enough of the craft and the energies they worked with, this is my favorite part of the movie. Here, things were explorative and peaceful and happy. It was the most representative of what practicing is like
It was actually pretty close to an old school Gardenian Wiccan ceremony
I remember myself, my sister and two of her friends trying to do the levitating scene. It didn't work. This film made me want to be a witch 😂😂😂
Gaia Girl it is possible only problem is that levitating is a advance technique if you believe in magic.
If you guys want to practice nagic always and also always use a protection spell before doing something otherwise it can come back times 3.

When you're sitting crossed legged and the group stands around you with their hands on the top of your head pushing down with steady gentle pressure the moment they take their hands off you're supposed to feel the weight lift off your head and you get the sensation of becoming lighter because there is no more pressure on your skeletal frame. Because you're supposed to sit with your neck stiff and your back straight making sure your tail bone is pressing firmly against the ground.. Its an allusion of pressure and release off your spine that makes you think you're becoming lighter and that they can lift you with just their fingers. So even if it doesn't work you still can insist that you did began to feel lighter because you became a little light headed.
Gaia Girl You do know that the us military does secret research on many paranormal topics and yes Magic is probably one of them. There was so many odd research activities going on in world war 2 that I doubt they have stoped doing research on them and who knows what they uncovered

I've done the levitating thing alongside my step sister and brother and step mom to her brother. Older man in his 40's, very tall, and I was seriously shocked.
All of them except Nancy did have pure intentions

True Sarah was the only ’true’ which of the four but Nancy did have powers after the ritual on the beach and I know most think that the three take Sarah's powers but at some point Nacy did have powers not from Sarah but from Monon he didn't appreciate how she abused her powers he bestowed upon her

2:02 Nancy looks at Sarah in a compassionate way here, like she empathizes with how Sarah is feeling unloved. So sad what happened between them later 😭
But this movie is so good because of how the characters develop. It never drags, it's never slow. They start to get powers just after this, then 3 of them abuse it. The story is always developing
I don't think she's empathazing there. I think she feels disgust, and plays off the phsyical emotion like the way she did which can be interpreted as empathetic or disgust. Remember she hates him, and she thinks that Sarah is pathetic, and says these things later in the movie.

Yeah, they really did do their research on Wiccan practices.
Even with all the flare and exaggeration for film, it was still quite accurate.
Apparently Faruza Bulk was very much a Wiccan when this was made and she helped with all the rituals etc to make sure it was correct - so I hear.
I watched this movie for the first time with my friends when I was 7-8. Right after, we gathered a bunch of random ingredients like spices, baking soda, toothpaste, I can’t even remember what else. Went outside into the woods and mixed it all together with water and our blood (small amount like this scene). At least we didn’t drink it, but we seriously thought we were doing witchcraft. We made a voodoo doll and everything, and read spells from a children’s ‘spell book’ I had. We were a bunch of weirdos. I would do anything to go back

But you can still be cautious when handling both swords and sorcery, and with both it's advisable to be cautious. That was something that the witch from the store warned them about when she warned them that they were starting to deal with very advanced magic and that whatever they sent out into the world would come back on them, Sarah was concerned about but that Nancy, Rochelle and Bonnie sadly never remembered

I've always loved their ritual setup in the woods. It's such a beautiful start to a movie.
It's crazy how Sara was the one with natural powers and everyone got so jealous they turned on her. Even though it was her who helped them out. 😭Females are so shady.

The fact that she was the only one to ask for "all the power of Manon" while all the other girls asked for things which would bring self-improvement should've been an immediate red flag. If people come into witchcraft thinking it will verify their already-existing god complexes or that it will give them invincibility against hardship and/or what scares them, they'll be quickly disappointed and move on to something else . . . or go nuts like Nancy. Either way, it won't be pretty. Real, genuine witches use their craft, gifts, and magick humbly, with the understanding that they themselves are just as much subject to nature's laws, the rule of three, karma, etc., as anyone else.

My sister and I did this as kids with a close friend of mine.. in the morning we all had brown scratches on our stomachs. More so my friend and I. My sister left before everything was over. She was afraid.. we kept going and finished. By the morning it looked like we were attacked. However, it was like the scars were already healed. I’ll never forget that. We were super excited though . They were all over our stomachs. These are real spells and rituals.

What has disturbed me the most about this movie is the poring rain scene as Nancy arrives home just before stepfather's heart attack; there is a dog chained outside in the storm with no shelter. This is not a thing ANY witch would do. Then the dog is never seen again. Poor creature!

I would have completely enjoyed the movie if they stayed with this energy and tonality the entire movie. With perhaps an external conflict/enemy that wasn't among them. I really enjoyed the first half before things went south.

The true bonding, friendship and camaraderie between the girls depicted in this film really hits me anytime I watch this. Life wasn’t too far off from this during the time It’s like witnessing the preservation of what is now truly a lost art in this current timeline. It’s one of the main things that draw me into this movie despite me not being into all that stuff they practice. I don’t know if we’ll ever get back to a time where it feels like this in general.
I think it’s weird that Bonnie asked specifically to be beautiful on the inside as well, yet she became a shallow petty person. What’s up with that? I think she got screwed over lol

This role did not fit in with Neve Campbell's acting. Neve can act anything, great actress, but some parts just don't put her in the spotlight, as others do. She is the best at being the good person (Scream) or the bad person (Wild Things). She is a very good actor, that actually made me cry in some movies, but she can't be in the middle. Now good, later bad. Good again. Nope, didn't suit her.
