Hey Simon. Thanks for the shoutout. Sorry ya find my channel boring; but I get it. Most of them aren't ment to be exciting, but more of a true representaton of my life; which usually is boring. I tried to stay true to myself and who i am and not change it for views or likes or put on a mask fit in or portray who i am dishonestly at all.
I've been putting much less focus on the channel lately, and putting more focus on my life. But I do feel like it had a positive impact overall. I think i have OCD, and i tried to leverage that to keep me motivated to do something healthy. Filming them gave it a purpose and a reason to keep drinking water.
I also suffered pretty badly from depresion most of my life. And have spent more time social isolated than anyone I know. I feel like the comments from strangers helped keep me alive. They helped fulfil my need to be social. I know it's just text on a screen, but i always knew there was someone real on the otherside of the screen. And even the negative comments helped me feel like my life has some kind of impact in some way, and gave me a reason to keep trying to stay alive.
In episode 10,000 we also did a fundraiser and raised over $11,000 for charity water to get a well built in Sierra Leone
I also feel like the videos helped motivate others to start healthy habits and to drink more water. There were over 150 other people who started youtube channels of themselves drinking water. Aaron drinks water for example is also close to reaching 10,000 waters. It makes me happy that I inspired people to do something healthy instead of a prank channel or something that motivates people to do something unhealthy in my view.
Seeing myself on screen also helped to see how much i had let my health get out of control. And helped me to self reflect on my own life seeing it on the screen. I was a very late bloomer in life; and i mean very late; like I didn't have my first kiss until I was 28 years old. I think a big part of this is being on the autism spectrum; i have always been bad an interacting with others. But the youtube chats helped me develope these skills and basic human interaction. So when I watch back through the 18 years i've spent making videos; I can see the progress i've made in life. And like since Covid 19 started; i've moved out of a basement bedroom into my own house. And I got a spine surgery last year, and lost over 200 lbs. And i'm legally blind with something called Cone Dystrophy; and last year I also got another eye surgery. I still can't legally drive because of my eyesight; but the eye surgeries did help. And seeing the progress i've made in life and being able to remind myself how bad my life was for so long brings a little smile to my face sometimes.
I also reviewed over 400 waters and did a list of brackets comparing them all. It's all just my own personal preference but my favorite was Hawaiian Springs Water. Based on the comments on these videos I do think people learn stuff from watching them and I do think people who have a big interest in water did enjoy them a little bit. I understand if water is not your cup of tea to say; like a lot of my friends love watching sports and I find it boring but I like learning about health and nutrition so I do enjoy educational videos about things even as mundane as water.
And the Jon Drinks Water is just one of my CZcams channels. I have several others One of them is called tech Thursday where I give out tech tips. One of them is called Jon eats carrots. One is called let's tape it; this is one of the most misunderstood of my channels. I'm not saying any of this to brag or anything because from a financial point of view they've all been complete failures. The only thing I can brag about is that I've stayed true to myself as I said at the beginning of this. I've had the chance to express myself and my thoughts and my feelings through my videos. I hardly get any respect or validation from anybody else in my actual life so it's been a nice little treat getting to be in the spotlight even if it's just mainly being mocked by people who don't understand me. I know from your point of view, a lot of the videos on their own are boring and pointless; but they do mean quite a bit to myself.

Along the lines the spine shattering statue, my mother shattered her spine into bone fragments some 20 years back. She can still walk to this day and the docs can't explain it.

@@_Laura_Marie The wiki don't have an official channel what I can see and most things SCP are fan made to begin with. I even feel like the wiki have changed since last time I did a deep dive into SCP.. Less official secret goverment site and more "just a fun thing".

Hearing the story of Dave McNosee sending his guide dog after some blokes with nose candy is hilarious.
I felt seen when Simon was talking about the Hydraulic Press channel. When I was in the Army we were issued with what were optimistically described as "Indestructible" flasks for hot beverages... We took said flasks and half an hour later proved they were misnamed after rolling an AFV436 over the top of one...

A lot of channels like “will it flush” are aimed at children. Children are geared toward trying to understand how the world works. Therefore they are the ones trying to understand “will it flush” or “what happens when you run over blank” or “what happens when you drop stuff off a building.”
The fact Simon's daughter comes across videos with Simon in them honestly warms my heart beyond belief.

The SCP stuff is basically a collection of mid to high quality short horror stories.
A lot of them are actually very good, and I'd highly recommend checking some of them out.
"The Flesh That Hates" is the one about the virus in the Russian town, and its INCREDIBLE body horror writing.
If youre in to Lovecraftian type stuff, I'd recommend "The Daleport Incident", its basically "The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny" but between otherworldly beings and the humans caught in the crossfire.
"The bodies in the water" is one of my favourites, and I'd pay to see Simon react to the coffee machine experiments in the SCP wiki.
Aye, SCPs vary greatly in quality. There are quite a few bad ones, but then some truly great ones. A lot of them seem like absurd ideas but are fantastically written.
One of my favorite SCPs actually regards a bottomless bag of potatoes.
I listen to The Volgun at work for days at a time. Really makes the day fly by and his presentation is great.

"Where the Dragons Went" is a pretty sad fantasy story that's very wholesome as far as SCP goes.
SCP foundation is fantastic, would highly recommend to lovers of the grimdark stuff, and almost hitchhikers guide vibes at times. Quality stuff!

@@_Laura_Marie There are channels covering this topic. You will have to search for them yourself, as CZcams may hand me a second strike if I tell you how to find them. Yes, on this very channel, I told someone how to find a video, and CZcams gave me a strike and a warning for being deceptive. So be careful.

Someone on a different comment thread suggested a great channel to watch and I've been binging ever since! I was right in thinking this is right up my alley, I love anything spooky-related, it's very clever how they have made a whole universe out of spooky stories, I'm hooked, to say the least!!

For anyone wondering about what show Simon was talking about with the spine disks, it's Altered Carbon, available on Netflix. Basically mortality itself has been solved and people can have their minds downloaded and transferred by artificial disks in their spinal column, but of course it gets abused to high hell by rich oligarchs who can afford to clone themselves and live forever. The main character was a resistance fighter in an old war, but was released from prison with a new body after something like 400 years.
Good show. I would recommend giving it a watch.
The books are way better, they were published in the 2000's and are seriously good sci-fi.
The 1st series is pretty good, but the second isn't even worth watching in my opinion. And although it's been quite a while since I saw the show, and more than a decade since I read the books, I have absolutely no idea why Simon said 'eating tigers'.... discs in spines, yeah, straight away knew it was Altered Carbon. Eating tigers? Nope. No idea.
Also, question for Dave, isn't the hydraulic press channel exactly as unentertaining as the flushing one for you? Will it flush/will it crush...
Here's an item, followed by a flushing/crushing sound... I'm genuinely curious, and also not taking the piss in the slightest, my Dad was 100%blind, so I'm aware of the difficulties you face. Oh, and the fact that you can't see my question. ✌

@@_Laura_Marie I don’t know if they do. It’s a very interesting and fascinating community run creative project that mostly falls under Creative Commons. They have an official website, but you can find multiple channels dedicated to it.
I personally recommend; Mr. Illustrated, Site-42 (who is one of the lead writers), SCP BITESIZE, SCP Explained, and TheVolgun,

There was this SCP about a guy who had a CZcams channel. Then he had two, and slowly, without people noticing too much, he had them ALL! And his basement was a cavernous, multilayered hellscape of billions of people chained to typewriters, creating millions of hours of content every second. How Simon managed to read it all and upload literally lifetimes of content every day is still unknown. 🥺

14:51 a mate of mine turned 28 recently and his boss gave him an aluminium baseball bat from his store (the bat has a history) a week before his bday, so my mate asked everyone invited to the party something he could smash😂😂. I almost exclusively watch CZcams on my second monitor as I am playing a game like Valheim. The sheer power of absorbing Simon alone would be too much.
The HPC is so great! It’s funny I found that channel the same way. Was watching CZcams late at night while playing video games and eventually got to the HPC. But what makes that channel so great is the guy who runs the channel and his wife. His accent is amazing to listen to

I love that now I have heard a brief clip of Nightwish played twice on Simons videos, and i would be willing to be every dollar I have, that he has absolutely no clue who Nightwish is.
I'd like to give a shout out to the channel ordinary sausage as that's about as odd as it gets whilst also being really entertaining. He makes sausages and tastes them out of all kinds of interesting things.

SCP-173 , "The Sculpture", (and the one Simon's talking about) was based on a creepypasta on 4chan, and was the original SCP. It's a collaborative writing project, under the Creative Commons concept. That's why no-one gets paid. Many, including The Volgun (best of the lot), have made a career out of their work adapting it for CZcams.
Because Creative Commons. More power to them.
Also, SCP stands for "Special Containment Procedures".
You're right about TheVolgun being among the very best out there!
However, SCP stands for: Secure, Contain and Protect. It's their Core Mission.
Special Containment Procedures is a common misconception about what the SCP Acronym stands for.

I have a funny story about the flushing myself. So as a 19yo kid fresh out of high school, I moved out to uni. My mum always told me to flush down the toilet the food which went bad. One day, while cooking I noticed there were food moths in my 1,5 kg jar of rice, so as I was taught, I went and dumped it into the toilet. However I made two mistakes. I forgot the rice was not cooked yet and it will swell, and I somehow dumped it all at once. Didn't even flush once before blocking it and it took me hours to remove. Nothing worked, neither drain cleaner which at one point made the bathroom too toxic with fumes, neither a plunger or this long rod to stick down the drain. In the end I had to scoop it out with my hand until it became better. Fortunately for me the blockage was very close to the bowl and with some wiggling I could remove it manually.

Seriously, y'all, I had a brief interaction with Lorelei here on CZcams on another BB video last week because I liked the Sabaton reference when Simon couldn't pronounce Joachim, and I asked her to keep it up and suggested the lyric "HIGHER" from the song "The Red Baron" when cocaine is referenced, and lo and behold, she goddamn did it.
I can attest from personal experience that all of Simon's channels are waaaaaaaaaay more entertaining than toilets flushing, if you're a blind person.

I would just like to say that I have been enjoying all the metal bits that have been showing up in these videos lately.
The SCP isn't just one youtube channel it's a website filled with these anomalies that these CZcams channels use for content.
