Easy, calculated and thus safe, the way I like it. Nice vid man. Cheers from the Netherlands!
Great guide thanks heaps I've never seen this done properly always just kids using a multitude of car jacks and guesswork but this looks so much safer
Hey brother, I have been lowering VW beetle since I’ve been 15 years old and never have I ever used that crazy tool. And I’ve also never heard of anyone getting hurt.
Me as well. Just did my 66' and was all afraid from seeing all these videos. It was an easy fix. I wonder if my plate was just lower tension... hmm
I swear in the VW world it's like a myth, a unicorn of a story that the spring bars going to remove your arm lol.
Am I the only one who got nothing out of this video?
Good job. Great video
Nice video. I hope you make a video on raising the spring for my baja project.
Great videos.
Great video thanks for the tips! at 5:04 you say you must use "appropriate grease" for the bushings so they don't stick or squeek. Can you advise on what type / make you used?
+Neal F Prothane or Silglide (found at NAPA) works great.
Thanks for the vid. You mentioned appropriate grease... What is appropriate grease? I can't get my bushings to stop squeaking!!!
It would've been nice if you would've kept recording to see what troubleshooting you do to get it in right you skip that part it doesn't help us if we run into that issue. But thanks for the video
Swingaxle boots are installed wrong. The seam should be toward the front instead of the top.
I saw somewhere that this benifited off road applications somehow and could be used for lifting. Is that accurte?
Hi, how are you doing, I got the video, we have a combi 73, and we want to upload the suspension you will have the kits or some video where I can see how to do it and where I can get spare parts for it, we are in Mexico and we want to improve the steering box It is also recirculating balls
regards
what up with using a torque wrench for loosing bolts it will make you wrench go out of adj use a breaker bar or a air wrench i use air ratchets to do my work not 1900 wrenches
Whatever works ig
Nah. It'll be fine.
I like that spring plate unloader tool.
do they come in differnt inches like 1 inche drop or 2 inhch drop
I'm looking at getting plates for my Super Beetle, I was curious as to what spring plates were used and how much they lowered the car in the end?
Clayton Zeches you don't need the plates to lower a vw bug
Why wouldn’t you just move the stock plate, one tooth at a time. That custom plate does nothing special.
how much are these?
do they work on both vw karmann ghia's and vw bugs?
where are they sold?

Atomwerk Engineering has gone out of business. You can find their products on our Mid America Motorworks website, found in the link above!
what is the shock size?
The link in the description is dead. Is this product still available?
It appears to have been removed from the website. Much like how this video ought to be removed from the internet!
Outstanding. I am currently on your web site and will be contacting you soon. I have a 71 baja bug with a vw van rear. I want to re do the entire suspension and am not sure where to start. I currently have 31's and love the ride height. I could go a bit higher. Will send email to you soon with pictures and such
Awesome! Look forward to seeing those!
I always hear there is so much pre loaded energy in these plates.. But it's always an anti climax lol, just hit it from the back with a rubber mallet no issues.
David, where you looking somewhere else?
Stock is rock
What’s the wrong way?
C clamp for safety after the cap is on makes no sense.
Why buy different parts when it is so easy to just mark original position of plate then re-clock the spring plate on the torsion bar. Use an angle finder if you want instead of marking the spring plate position if you want. Easy to both lower and raise using original parts. Interesting video though.
No se mmm
Shit, this whole time I've just been using a hammer and ratchet with sockets to lower the bug.
There is so many things in this video that made me wonder what this guy was thinking. And it made me nauseous hearing how out of shape he is!
Looks like a big hassle💩👎
