Teachers Should Have Guns In School

- Yes, you read the title correctly. Guns belong in school. kind of! In this video I break down a study that was conducted of approximately one thousand educators. More than half stated they believe arming teachers with guns was a bad idea. I am saying that it is a good idea. Not all teachers but a few.
The few that would take on some training and would be willing to carry a gun in their school to protect their coworkers but more importantly, the kids they teach. That is why I think some teachers, not all, should be armed if they wanted to be. What do you think? Should teachers be armed?

I think a lot of people don’t realize that many of the bills proposing this 1. Make it an option for teachers, not a requirement 2. What they do require is the same amount of firearm training and background/evaluation as is required of actual police officers. It is a lot of training and isn’t easy. It’s not like a teacher can just decide to carry one day because they feel like it and stroll on in with it.
Man… our academy training on firearms was one week… and it was “pass/fail”. There was no percentage. It really wasn’t as hard as people claim it is😬
It's necessary to protect innocent children!
@@callen0892What’s your point?
Thank you Johnny Q for supporting armed guards and teachers in schools .
I live in Utah, I carry a firearm to college most days of the week. Half of my CCW class was teachers. It’s good to see a state standing up for its schools and kids.
Hey I’m in Utah too! I’m happy that our state is a pro-gun state it’s nice. I carry religiously. I’m trying to get my wife to carry but she’s not comfortable with it just yet.
Yet there is nothing done about perimeter security.
Just have schools have cop security teams. My son had 5 cops always at school, they had their own miniature headquarters in a room. I always felt glad they were there, and the kids reported they felt safe. They weren’t paid security guards, they were genuine cops. Members of the community.
I need that at my school lol. We only got hall monitors and what are they supposed to do in the case of an active shooter in Vegas in a really ghetto school which by the way has had a history of school shootings
I get having cops around, and that’s great and all. But uvalde and parkland proved to us that although cops are essential, that doesn’t mean they will come to your aid. If there is a lock down procedure, lock that door and keep the kids back until cops announce themselves.
@@ViewlessSquid the cops at uvalde were a (cowardly) responding team and swat team.
The guy at parkland was a poorly paid $13 an hour lone security guard.
A 5 cop team that is well trained, members of the community who spend time with the kids and adults daily are much more motivated and competent to protect the school, and are already on site.
I remember my high school had at least one officer onsite at all times but I wouldn’t classify my school as a dangerous place. There wasn’t a lot of gang activity or anything like that.
@ViewlessSquid I agree but tbh it's easier to already be committed when you're in the building rather than breaching and moving plus those cops would probably have a personal connection to the kids and they would feel more emotionally connected to the situation
Better explain this well.
Guns and children aren’t a good mix.
I think I explain it well in this video
@@JohnnyQyou do Johnny ! Good job

I understand where you’re coming from, but most kids in middle school are already stronger than teachers, most are even taller.
The teachers also just aren’t fit for shooting, they’re fit for teaching, as you said.
Our school has auto-close doors, bullet-proof glass with metal wire, multiple SRO officers, and more.
I do understand where you’re coming from, but for me at least, I don’t feel it’s necessary at all for teachers to carry firearms.
Thanks.
Then train the teachers for it
@@JohnnyQ Leading cause of death of school aged children is guns. Jurisdictions with more restrictions to gun ownership and usage have lower gun related deaths for children.

Can’t wait for this video!😁
@@JohnnyQHave you been on the S.W.A.T. Team during your time as a police officer?
It's crazy that this is even a concern. Surely, if you're debating whether or not you need firearms in a place of education something is already incredibly wrong.
On one hand you have a potentially responsible person who can keep people safe. On the other hand you have a gun in close proximity to not necessarily just one homicidal teenager who could try to grab it and use it.
So the students would just randomly know if their teachers are armed, and they would somehow have access to the teachers firearms?
And that's where high level training comes to separate the "potentially responsible" teachers from the actually responsible ones. Those teachers mostly assumed they could just put their sign on a paper and start carrying on the job. No, that's not how this works.
Sufficiently proficient teachers would be more than capable of maintaining their firearms on their person and away from homicidal teens. Plus, why should students know about it?
If you think guns aren't coming into the schools, you're severely naive. I carry everyday everywhere I legally can and no one is the wiser. I don't think people realize how many guns are around them at all times.
No we should expect teacher who get payed virtually nothing to spend hours and hours training yea, thats going to happen@@savvycivvy5644
I don't think it would be a particularly easy task to grab someone's concealed carry.
We don’t need teachers casually carrying around guns, how about some trained guards? My school has a few undercover cops around and most students including me have a nice bond with them.
Read the bill and training requirements. Same as a police officer, nothing casual about it.
@@RW7579 here I’m talking about the Iowan bill (from where I reside) and I never saw a part about that, but I read a simplified version so it may be that too
Loving the camera setup and channel direction!
Man, I agree with you 100% as an armed security officer for a school
At my school we have six teachers with guns
Hey man, even though you aren't a police officer anymore I'm still very glad you are uploading videos. Question: what is the largest caliber pistol you have?
As an early years Educator from the UK, i can agree, I such a gun based society, guns should be in schools. I don't feel it should be an option for teachers unless they have adequate training and a mental health check that repeats every year or so, just have school security other than that. As an early years Educator here, it is my duty to protect any student of mine including putting their life before mine.
How about just making it harder to get a gun in the first place?
I agree 100%. Teachers should have the option to have a firearm nearby if they choose to. The sad reality of the police is that they are almost always reactionary and we are our own first line of defense.
Seen teachers throw chairs. Get in front of the class and have mental breakdowns. Seen them blame students for their outcome of life. Not the people I’d trust to have a firearm
I'm all for teachers having guns for protection but, something that is puzzling me is how can they keep them safe and locked up so students can't get to them, but also have them accessible enough to be retrieved quickly in case of emergency.
Right, but there are some rough teachers who wont use it for good and instead for evil
I’m not against guns. But as a teacher, I don’t have a desire or want to carry one in a classroom. That’s ridiculous. Teachers already have an incredibly difficult job. We don’t need to worry about buying guns, spending money on gun training, etc. when other elements of schools are massively underfunded. There are better solutions that don’t involve arming teachers. Schools are places to learn, not battlefields.
So you rather get massacred?
Bro, 💯. This video is a complete nonsense
I compelety agree
High school freshman here, and TBH, I would honestly feel much safer, knowing that my teacher is strapped and trained to handle a shooter or something like that because I live in Vegas and shit is wild here. And if that can’t happen well then as one user said on here Just have a room with like actual cops or something like that in the school that can be deployed To handle this stuff if you’re not gonna give teachers guns and training.
I honestly thought you meant punishing kids with firearms💀💀
Personally, I believe teachers should not have guns in the classroom at all. The only people in the entire building that should have a firearm is the SRO. Personally, I believe that at an elementary there should be 1 SRO, 1 or 2 at middle schools and an upwards of 3 at high schools. This is just my opinion, so I don’t care if you tell me I’m wrong in the replies. It’s my opinion. Also, just because we don’t agree doesn’t mean you’re a good creator. I’m still gonna be subscribed no matter what.
I disagree that a teacher should have a gun. Because my last teacher tried to poison me
that's crazy there must be a serious rivalry
My wife is a teacher. My kids are in school. So my entire family is at risk every single day. I always carry my full kit in my truck every single day. Rifle, plates, belt, pistol and all. The reason I do is mostly for them. If some shit goes down at that school I will be the first one there almost guaranteed. I won’t put up with the bs that happened in Texas. My sheriffs office is awesome and my sheriff is a kick ass dude so I doubt they would waste any time but I’m prepared just Incase. That being said, most teachers that work with my wife want to be armed. Their boss wants that too. I live in the south east so we do things a little different around here but idk why it would be an issue. It just goes to show you that the government doesn’t care about saving lives or they would do more sensible things. It’s all about disarming citizens. They want control.
That said, one valid concern I have heard is that local govt/districts would use it as a cost saving measure. I.e. don’t need SRO’s, teachers can just carry. That’s a valid concern, teachers should supplement SRO’s not replace them.
There’s the exact underlying problem. We fund plenty for the protection of celebrities, politicians but those in charge love to save money when it comes to the security of innocent children with gun free zones signs.
I was born and raised in South Central LA and went to Jr. High and School in the 90's. Gang violence was out of control at most of our schools. We had 1 school police officer and 3 deans that all worked together to keep us safe. Honestly, I don't think teachers should have guns in the classroom because they have a ton to deal with as teachers. School administration and an SRO or 2 with firearms training makes more sense to me.
I used to work for the local school district here in the county that I live in here in Florida. Me personally I think it's a fantastic idea that some of our teachers should be armed. Because that definitely adds an element of protection to the students versus having absolutely no resources to stop a potential threat. I would also add that they should work in concert with sros to make schools as safe as possible for children. I would also agree that teachers who decide to take on the role of carrying concealed in the classroom should absolutely be given the opportunity to train to the fullest potential to allow that teacher to be able to carry that firearm in the safest manner possible. Just look at the studies that have been done where most mass shootings occur. There is no doubting the material at hand that mass shootings occur mostly in gun-free zones. When you order law-abiding citizens to disarm, you leave those law-abiding citizens vulnerable to whatever would be criminal(s) intent. Currently I work in a an environment where I am exposed to lots of different people where I provide a public service. I can't begin to tell you how many times I have been face-to-face with questionable people. If my company that I work for would allow us to carry concealed on the job site, I will be one of the first people to do so without question. To sum this all up I am very much in favor for teachers to be trained properly and to be able to carry concealed in the classroom to protect the students. That to me is common sense.
I’m still sad he quit his job😢
I am a middle school teacher and I hope my area approves teachers of having guns and I have a weapon carry permit, etc to be someone who would do so. That said, there are VERY few of my colleagues I would want to have a firearm in the school. The temperament and life experience of many teachers would 100% make me feel less safe if there was not a lot of training and passing some kind of assessment before letting them be in that position.
Doesn’t it make sense to just have 3-5 officers in a school instead of armed teachers? Are we assuming this is too expensive or something? We shouldn’t assume that, especially if it is the better option.
I live in the UK so I'm no expert with gun crime however I believe that at least schools located in areas with high amounts of gun crime should be allowed to carry firearms
I support cops in schools only if they are also taught and trained to be guidance counselors. In lower income neighborhoods , children tend to have more behavior problems, and cops tend to arrest those children (for common theft and petty fights, children do dumb stuff) .
I think it’s best to guide those children towards the right path, rather than perpetuate the cycle.
We can protect the children and avoid turning school into prison for those who were born into the right place with the right people.
1st, I want to thank you for your service as a police officer. I really hope you make what you want on CZcams.
Imagine if one of the teachers in the Texas school shooting had a firearm?!
Hey Johnny Q just wanted to say from the very beginning of this video you seem much happier less stressed … looking forward to your future content.
I’m also on your level. It’s baffling that more teachers aren’t pushing for this to be an option for them in their schools. They could directly influence the outcome of this scenario and they would rather choose to hide and hope someone saves them. I don’t understand it and I hope that more people see the validity of our side and get the training they need to be a hero in their community if the time comes
Before this year, and as someone who is in college to become an elementary school teacher, I had never even thought about carrying in the classroom. I am hesitant to place that burden on an educator but also to place a gun in a classroom setting. Accidents happen. I feel like its not impossible for some sort of incident to happen because a student gets ahold of a teachers firearm. Obviously the teachers would be trained as anyone else who carries but I feel like it opens the doors to new accidents and I wonder if the risk outweighs any benefit. There have been instances of a child getting ahold of a parents firearm because something was mistakenly not secured, using it (either accidentally or on purpose), and harming another person or themselves. All it takes is one mistake, and even if it only happens sporadically its not impossible and makes me cautious.
I hope this doesnt come off too much as me rambling. I am very open to any discussion about this to learn more about perspectives outside of my own.
@@joeyc6381 If anyone learns proper firearm safety they’ll 100% do way more good than harm. You do make some decent points, but in schools that don’t have/don’t want armed guards at schools than you’re just asking to be put on a t shirt without a concealed, safely holstered weapon. Now don’t carry if you have any problem with firearms because that won’t do any good, however if you want to protect your students that’ll be your best bet.
It depends on the requirements. The bill in my state requires the same amount of firearm training and evaluation as is required of police officers. As it should.
It also requires the firearm be concealed and secured on person at all times, no “leaving it in the desk”, etc.
@@SmallMediumFatAnd who pays for the firearm training? The teachers? Absolutely not. The schools? Some of them can barely afford learning materials for students and viable teacher pay let alone guns, ammo, and training
I firmly believe arming and training teachers would keep students safe. Practically speaking however, where would schools obtain the funding for this? Teachers get paid jack shit and barely have the resources they need to teach. Again, not saying I don’t agree with your point, I just don’t see it as a practical solution (financially speaking that is).
This is such a tragic situation that we need to be like this. It wasn’t always this way. But people don’t seem to be getting a lot of support. Kids are getting bullied and not getting taken care of at home. I completely concur and agree in that teachers should be allowed to carry whatever they want in necessary security and safety of the free state. However I think there’s so much more than can be done outside of that. So much more important reasons being the reasons why these kids are shooting up places. Yeah sometimes it’s “idk” and they actually genuinely don’t know why they killed 37 people and injured 5. I think most do understand though and haven’t been taught to verbalize their feelings. See what I’m getting at here. I believe we need a multi pronged approach in order to stop this threat because no matter how much you lead a horse to water you cannot make it drink
I agree with you entirely, if teachers want to be armed they should be. Our rights do not magically disappear when we step out of our homes or go to work. I wish more people understood this concept, the world is not this "safe" fairytale where nothing bad happens. Ironically, we have armed security for concerts, sporting events, banks, but not all of our schools...the entire notion that the presence of firearms makes us "less safe" is completely moronic. Most people who leave their homes more than likely pass by someone who may be carrying a firearm, does that make them less safe? I have always suggested schools should hire veterans to basically be security, but they did not look like security. They just drive around on those golf carts doing whatever the school needed, however, their primary job is the security of the school. Simple.
i've been saying this exact same fucking thing since 2017... like it woulda made me feel way safer knowing my teacher had a gun to protect us.
100% I wouldn’t want to sit still in a death trap during a school lockdown knowing there isn’t a school resource Officer or armed teacher.
I don't understand why it's such a sensitive topic when originally teachers in old west schools were armed to defend against bandits and raiding indians, and most of them were females.
How else we gonna keep our kids safe if its not a officer or machines to detect guns or metrals detectors or train teachers like a lawabbiding ctizen would do , its so simple .🤦🏻
Maybe teachers don’t have to have PTSD if they have to draw their weapon. Listen I’m a gun person and I feel more safer having and know how to use a gun. But I’m aware of the consequences if I were to draw my weapon to protect myself, my love ones and others. I think training might not be enough, maybe mental health to strengthen teachers confident if they ever have to draw their weapon during an active shooter event.
I 100% agree
This is so true. But many people are too scared to acknowledge the fact that the world is getting more evil. And it’s only until good people stand up and do something will change happen.
having all teachers have guns in the classroom might sound great, but i really dont trust my 98 year old barely breathing english teacher to save my life
All schools should have multiple SROs in the us
Add SROs on top of armed teachers and that would be a well fortified school.
@@ViewlessSquid I don’t trust armed teachers
I’m lucky to have a couple in my school
@@Drummer_Boy7 I’m lucky I don’t go to an American school

Why should teachers need to have guns? How can you not see that is a problem in itself. In what universe should a teacher need to put themselves in harms way for their children?
A teacher signs up to teach not to potentially shoot to kill a person.
Just ridiculous it falls on them.
I think the state of Texas now requires an armed police officer or guard on campus at all times at all public schools.
hey, same guy three videos ago I just subscribed to you from your title. just saying if you could either lower the background noise or just eliminate, it, just saying it’s better
I was just scrolling on yt and just saw the title of the video and I thought that was wild
I’m currently a student and I do live in a relatively safe area, but if my teachers were *responsibly* armed amd well trained (obviously) I would feel 100x safer. Especially if in the event of the teacher themselves got hit and a well trained student (for context let’s say this is high school) had to pick it up mid encounter and use it him/herself. School lockdown drills are stupid because we just sit there. Sometimes they say the safest spot is under a window so the assailant can’t see you, but my thought is that now there is less room for noise to travel so it’s more audible and bullets will 100% go through dry wall. I want to know that if something were to happen, I would be able to keep myself safe, and if I wasn’t able to do that successfully, at least I tried and didn’t sit there and eat lead after watching my friends take it. Knowing I have a chance to get out is better than knowing I have to try and use scissors and a pencil.
Funny how no one ever asks the teachers what they think on a wide scale basis. At least give us the option and stop pretending like it doesn't happen.
Why would giving every single educator a firearm make schools more dangerous? Here's why: not educators are good. Have you ever seen one of them yell or even scream at a student. Imagine if a firearm was in one of their hands. What do you think would happen. There is barely any control on who is teaching the students on our country, and then give them fire arms? Really?
I'm pretty sure it's not all educators who are given a firearm, and they will be trained so it's less likely happen
@@atlas21943 That's a fair point, I think that's better than giving ALL educators firearms.

For all we know all the surveyed people could be from some super lefty city like NY or something because most educators I know in real life there's a couple packing or an officer at they're school
Just a hypothetical: What if students aged 18 and up with a valid concealed carry permit could carry in school/college?
If teachers can be armed, then so could law abiding students. People can reply to this with their opinion freely but civily.
I don't think any teacher or any student should be allowed in a school with a gun. There's supposed to be security. And, no matter how many people are gonna oppose it, gun regulations are needed and they should be stricter.
@@alexchrist1057 I disagree. People should be allowed to exercise their 2nd Amendment right, abiding to the law as much as possible. We already have gun laws in place that restrict law abiding citizens (NFA, Hughes Amendment, GCA of 1968), and yet the criminals don't seem to care. And the criminals will never care.
It shouldn't be an option. Your job as a teacher is to teach, not be a armed security guard hero that wants to take down the active shooter.
Amazing setup!!
I surely can't fully understand surely since guns are not an issue where i am. But for the context of America i would just agree. Many argue in America oppose this since they argue that such actions will keep reminding students of gun violence. But ignoring gun violence isn't making schools safer anyways for America.
This graph is funny because teachers were asked about if it would make their own schools more or less safe if they themselves carried, and more than half of them said less. They're blatantly admitting that if they had firearms themselves, the schools they're working would be less safe for the children. So they should not be trusted with firearms.
This is how oblivious the average lib assumes the average firearm carrier is. They are outing themselves on why they shouldn't be allowed guns in the first place, while at the same time wanting to remove them from law abiding citizens that actually care about protecting their community.
You’re 100% right. This country has gone into chaos, hopefully it’ll get better, but for now, I honestly think teachers should carry firearms too. Great channel btw

CORRECT teachers should have guns and a person should teach gun saftey and gun is NO touch
I agree ❤
If teachers were to have extremely secure access so no little schmuck kid gets in there, they could make the school much easier to defend in worse case scenario (active shooter, or stabber, etc.) HOWEVER, they should not make it known to the children and students that there is a firearm in the classroom, because knowing what students will do nowadays, they will try to get in there.
Hi Johnny I love your vids. I think I’ve watched all the shorts lol… can I ask a question?
Are cops aloud to carry their own guns while on duty?
Yes
They carry their guns all the time on duty
depends on the department
@@Nolanjh bro I mean there personal concealed carry that they bought not the one that is given to them
That’s a good question: officers can purchase their duty gun from the city and make certain modifications as well (add red dots, trigger up grades) but it must be done through their gunsmith to be to their safety spec. Some departments require you to pass proficiency shooting with other firearms outside of your duty gun depending on their specialty if allowed (I.e. psyc response vs working the streets) some cops and departments give more freedom than others.
