THANK YOU for differentiating between "This is a good game, but I'm over it" and "This game blows". They're absolutely not the same thing.
Yeah agreed. I don't get that mentality among MMO gamers that once they've lost interest in a game they have to slam it, announce to the world they are quitting and then make a dramatic exit stage left.
There is no middle ground with some MMO players. They play a game 8+ hours a day and it's the best thing in the world. Once they've grown a little bored of it, rather than being rational and just putting the game down for a bit, waiting for more content etc, they feel the need to go full 180, stop playing the game forever and nitpick the game to death for justification in doing so.
Now I haven't played BDO for a month, maybe more, fully intend to go back and have a look at Valencia when they release it, and when they release any other good sized updates they make. Why wouldn't I, I liked this game, why wouldn't I enjoy the new stuff they put in this game that I liked? It's not gonna cost me any more money.
I just don't understand the finality in this "I QUIT" mentality as soon as a game can no longer fully support someones unrealistic playing habits and they get a little bored.
One of the things I really love about BDO is that a lot of things are single player as you mentioned. For you it was a negative, but I prefer it this way so that I can play things out at my own pace.
Regardless, nice review Fevir.
yep I usually play mmos for 2 days then I am so bored that I have to force myself to even start the game.....black desert is the only one that stays entertaining and part of that is the single player--> I don't have to find people to do basic things wich Is timeconsuming i can just play however i like and leave whenever i want
then maybe you shouldn't play mmorpgs, just a thought. that's sort of the staple of mmos - player interaction.
belfrysol
No, the staple to MMOs is to allow you to do both. I can play on my own on most days in at my own pace and then when I have time I can work with my guild to do other things. Just because you are playing an MMO does not mean that everything you do needs to be with other people. And just because I prefer doing things at my own pace doesnt meant hat I dont want to ever do anything with other players either. Good MMOs should allow you to do both.
this is basically the perfect balance of what i wanted in a single player game, for me the only purpose of the other players in the game is to impact the economy.. like he said, it's a slice of life game
@belfrysol that's a very old school mindset, u dont really even have to categorize this game like how u would do other mmos.. like in the video, black desert is it's own thing, 3 months of enjoyment from the current content is already a lot and since it's an online game there's bound to be expansions and changes in the future..
I have i think 60 days total playtime and didn t pvp one time and am still level 50. I just chill and play my pace.
Same, I play with about 10 people i know in real life and work with, he is right about the game "can be" a solo game, we all do our own thing through the week and then every Sunday we all do ALL of our scrolls together to max out on Seals and drops, and we never PVP. Ill be playing this game a long time.
Yep, me too. BDO is the game I go to when I just want to roll around and do things slow, explore, have fun with friends etc. I think you really need to have the "just chill" down to a T to get the most out of how BDO's structure works.
not surprised tbh if ur still lv 50 the competitive players are in grinding spots for lv 55-56 i have no issues finding any pvp most of the time i dont have a choice but to defend myself
Then you are one of the few who can tell the difference between an MMORPG and Mobas/fps congrats
Haha!! you're gonna be so surprised how much PvP is everywhere when you reach Lv 53+ (I PvP every single day since I'm lv 35, I think you might be low level or running away from good spots..) ; WAIT FOR NODE WARS ^^
This review is a very unbiased one,and easy to listen to. The tone, music, and description are all really nice. Fevir states what he is into, and what he isnt. What he is gotten tired of doing, etc, without any unkind ranking thoughts.
I am so on the border with BDO.I want it,but I dont. I have paid for other games that didnt have a feeling of depth and life, and became empty to me right away. Only one MMO hasnt let me down. That's The Elder Scrolls Online. I have wandered the entire breadth of that world and it's DLCs just for the beauty of it The NPCs seem alive, with conversation, and even insults. lol. I just need something to play while ESO is down for maintenance, and I keep thinking BDO might be it.Or The Witcher 3. When games cost a bit of money, one has to pick,..one or the other.
If you own Skyrim- I'd recommend Enderal (sureai.net/). It's a stand alone RPG created with Skyrim's engine.. and is just a very solid RPG in it's own right.. and is free if you have Skyrim already.
Lolz, Elder Scrolls is the only one that let me down xD However, it was at pre-release and launch. Heard it's muuuuuch better now, but first impressions is crucial. Also having to pay for each DLC is something I'm not fond of doing, let alone for an MMORPG that should be getting its funds for free DLC through it's micro-transactions.
On the note of this or Witcher 3, BDO is currently on sale and the Witcher 3 was on sale and has a Game of the Year Edition. Could easily get both for a fairly low price.
Witcher 3, trust me on this one, i know u want this ALIVE world, u have that in witcher 3
Nimity Tei An alive world is when other people are playing the same game you are.Witcher series isnt an MMO.
Other than all the NPCs,it isnt a game that is alive. It does feel populated though.
Shiloh Kleinschmit ah we have different views, for me alive world doesnt mean other players but a story and npcs that make the game come alive difficult to describe i guess.
You and me didn't quit BDO. We finished it. Just like any other single player game, we paid for an experience, and a good one at that.
LOL node wars are even out yet...
and you don't think that isn't an issue?
Nah my point is the game hasn't started yet
watch the vid, pvp isnt the focus and node wars certainly arent the main game...trust me on this your gonna realise how overhyped they have become once we get them.
As a person who played on the Korean servers, Guilds, Node Wars, Seige Wars, and more are the MAIN focus after LVL.50. The game is overall guild focused. You'll all see this after Valencia Pt.2 drops.
''Dude I've put 500 hours into this game and now IT'S SHIT! IT'S BORING! THIS GAME SUCKS!''
- typical MMORPG player
500 hours is literally nothing though. Try 3000 atleast, especially when it comes to MMOs.
Stephen Damm Bøås Not when it's out a few months... Maybe like 6 years. 20 days playing time is A LOT. When you no-life a game for months you're gonna hit that mark
500 hours is what you expect out of a game after a few months, if not more. I usually end up with 1000 hours + in most games after 6 months of casually playing every now and then.
Imposter!
As long as you are part of our elitist and vastly superior cat-society its all good.
Excellent commentary! You nail it well. Many thanks for putting the time into making this vid.
subbed. that felt like it was a very good insight into the game. thanks for taking the time to share it with everyone.
every youtuber is quiting BDO lol
They hyped it up, had fun, saw channel views grow, then quit. Probably played it to death while making videos for it. They made the game into work. This is why i don't think I'd make YT vids on MMOs and just enjoy them. Maybe if people made LP vids or Streams instead of assload of tutorial videos we'd see CZcamsrs not we'd on this game.
+TH3 L4UGH1NG M4N youtube videos aren't made for mmos. Mmos take shit ton of time to get anything. I'm not going to sit and watch someone grind this spot for 3 hours.
Xeriox01 I agree. On Twitch I'm seeing a lot of streamers play with their viewers which seems to work better. Lees need to grind and compile energy when you have a bunch of people helping one another out live.
youtubers/most streamers are literally meatshield in most mmo's, game jumpers
No. CZcamsrs and streamers are literally the same as every other person. There is no difference between one of your friends quitting and a streamer quitting- it doesn't even make sense view/popularity wise to game hop.
For some reason people tend to look at content creators differently than normal players. The people who are doing it for the views are the people who keep playing the same game long after it's fun for them.
I don't usually comment on videos. But I just felt the need to say thank you! There's just something about you and your voice that makes me feel so extremely satisfied. You truly are an amazing guy Fevir. And your videos really reach out to me. They really do! I've been watching tons and tons of these so called reviews on the game. And at one point it really felt as the game itself was bad. I gave up way to early because the only thing I did was grind. I never got the chance to appreciate the world of BDO because my computer is pretty shit. With that being said I was probably grinding with the worst graphics for over 20 hours without doing anything else. Which sooner or later killed my motivation. And when people started posting videos of all the bad things with black desert it just made me feel so disheartened. This video totally changed my mind. And it just felt so good hearing some positives for once. I'll probably drop this game for a while too. But if I at some point get the chance to play this game without being buggered by my lack of frames. I'll play the hell out of it. Thanks again and take care!
:)
it's ok to be gay
let's rejoice with with the boys, in a gay way ... (^_^)b
+Fevir someone's got the hots for you
Wow this video was really well structured. Subbed :)
This seemed to be an exceptionaly fair & level headed review.
Thank you for your time & the excellent video.
Critically well thought out video. Fair, straightforward, and honest review. Keep up the good work.
Good video, you had some really understandable points
Excellent review Fevir. Probably the best out there for the average gamer! I urge you as well to dive back in and experience node wars, castle sieges and Valencia when its out! Would love to get your overview of that content.
Look forward to your next video.
I watched this video and one other about the problem with MMOs and immediately subscribed. Your levelheadedness and sense of clarity is so refreshing. I'm about to watch your "Best upcoming MMO's of 2017" video. Usually I stay the hell away from videos like that, but I'm expecting yours to be something special. Can't wait!
I am still playing BDO and still enjoying it, I have taken a different approach to the game though and it seems to be working really well for me. I think its all about what you enjoy and I am enjoying this one.
You should be more well known. Very level headed, mature, and analytical.
Quality upload! Subscribed just for the level-head speech. Loved it
Great talk about the 300+ hours in 1 month vs over longer term, that's something a lot of people overlook and it makes a huge difference. Very sensible information and knowledge in this video, I look forward to your other/upcoming videos/reviews!
i agree with almost everything. for me the biggest problem is the huge gear dependency + lvl grind... because it restricts your ability to explore as you desire. i think some level of progression is alright, for people who like this "journey from zero to hero" (i'm personally kinda tired of it, having played so many games that use this exact same formula), but in my opinion the power difference between casual and hardcore players in this game is just ridiculous. even if i had the time to play this game enough to have max gear, i'm pretty sure i would get very little satisfaction from being able to oneshot people... if i want to "compete", skill should be the only thing that matters. not how many hours of mindless grinding i've done, not how lucky my drops were, and certainly not how much money i've sunk into the game. i believe there can be a perfect, or at least near-perfect mmo for me... and if fate so wills it, maybe i will be part of it's creation some day :)
Exactly my group stoped after a month cause the Biggest Streamer Guild Used the Exploit for killing the world bosses and they had Bilions while i was fishing everyday for a month and had 100 milion or maybe little more which was nothing He was streaming and we saw he had 2 bilion and like 50 belts thats was the 3rd week when the game came out they were all higher lvl and better geared than us and on every farming spot they didnt get Banned or anything so we quit cause the company doesnt give a fuck
Go play vindictus then. Its a time sink, and gear certainly is very important if you want to be the best dps, but the game is HEAVILY reliant on player skill. You can't solo raid bosses unless you learn their attack patterns and the timing for dodging their attacks. This means practice.
I absolutely agree with your points. The grind and power gap between each individual level and handful of AP/DP is way too huge, it favors hardcore players then tries to force casuals into confrontations with them. I hear you need around 200AP and 250DP to even compete in PvP, which takes 200+ hours of solo grind to get. No thanks.
My favorite thing about it was the "single playerness". I also loved the combat. The thing I didn't like was to be the best of the best you have to dedicate so much time to this game. Working full time and wanting to play other games and have a bit of a life it isn't possible.
Yeah I have a super computer and the pop in was god awful
I like the "single playerness too" :) Whats "pop in"?
Pop in is when shrubs and bushes and certain environments take time to load and show up randomly as you move forward. You'll be walking and 5 feet infront of you a bush or shrub or a rock or something will materialize in front of you.
OOOOOooOh... I've noticed that a little bit, but it's never really been bad
TheLesExit It bothered me to no end.
It's really obvious when you ride a horse. If you angle the camera behind you , you will see characters, trees and random npcs pop in front of you alot.
This is one of the best videos out there. In general! Good job :) You're so objective and unbiased on your review it's incredible. Subscribed :)
I love the tone and ring of your voice: clear and in a sense calm too. Well done.
Got it for 5 bucks. It's still installing but can't wait to see how it is.
pls tell me ur opinion about it :D
Where the heck did you get it for 5 bucks?
AzureRoxe
It was a black friday sale that passed.
byAvaaR
I love it so far. The graphics are beautiful the combat is incredibly fun and the world's huge. It's got a grand scale to its design. Also the creator is very detailed with lots of options to make your character your own.
AzureRoxe its 5 bucks right now man and you can even try it out for free for 7 days which is what I'm doing its about to be done installing so hopefully its good
this is what happens when you ignore pve content in an mmo. Focusing only on pvp as endgame content is why people lose interest.
no it's not what happens when pvp is endgame. in my opinion, pve should only exist to be competitive in pvp. where BDO gets it wrong is the grind. the constant grind.
+TAXEXEMPTION you keep believing that while games like wow and final fantasy which are primarily pve keep dominating the mmo market. Grinding in this game is not a problem at all becuase the combat itself is actually fun. The problem is there is no carrot on a stick to kewp people playing which pve provides. Mmo pvp is a joke there are other games that do it betteryso anyone serious about real pvp does not do it in mmos where there is no real balance.
So you're ok with having to go at it for 1500hours to get that level 56? I find it easier to go on Nasa's next expedition and look at "space" for the same amount of time instead, then turn around and do it again. Point is, there's a limit to how much things get out of hand, and let's not forget that this is what they mean by "difficult" (apart from the last areas that replicate the Dark souls factor of getting one-shot.)
Every game has grind, the issue is those games give you a reward when your done grinding. You get to experience new content, fight stronger bosses with different mechanics and get new gear. BDO has almost none of that, making the grind pointless. There is no progression besides numbers in your stat screen going up after the soft level cap. It serves no purpose.
+TAXEXEMPTION Grinding is every single MMO. Your argument is invalid. Bye.
This video is perfectly done, thanks so much. Subscribed!
Hey man, just wanted to say thanks for all the content, Think you're a great orator and hope the channel gets the success it deserves.
Lack of other player interaction is definitely the major problem of this game.
Jin thats why I m out in olvia servers helping newbies out everytime . Made a lot of friends
I've been playing Eve Online for over 10years and I hope to be playing BDO in 10 years
EvE Online is what MMOs should be.
And BDO is the closest thing to EVE on land as we've got. EVE for 7 years, and I hope to play BDO for as long.
no, bdo is not sandbox
I'm currently stuck in a wormhole hiding.
Eve online? That's not even in the same area
Good to hear there is some common sense video's on youtube.
Great video with a good explanation without bassing everything without reason.
Keep up the good work!
Finally, someone got it! I saw already a few "rants"? and this one was insightfull. GJ man u just got my sub.
Great game, but i felt alone there. No reason to group so majority just play solo.
In my opinion I much rather play a MMO where theres little content to do with other players like BDO than a game like ArcheAge where you can't do much unless you have at least 1 more more people with you. Like I'm more of a solo player but when I'd like to do a over seas merch run I can't do that by myself because I have to rely on other people to help me which is a pain.
Kelly nell I agree, I like to be self-sufficient. My only problem is that lonely feeling I get after a while.
Well in archeage you better have 32 accounts and an unlimited credit card. That or be a master hacker.
Totally agree with this. Sometimes I don't want to have to do everything with other people or have to rely on other people to enjoy a game. I like the social aspect of MMOs but I prefer not to have to NEED other people to access most of the content.
Excellent review man!
I appreciate your honesty. Especially so considering all things.
you also didn't mention that they IP blocked the game from almost half the world , and are now losing so much money and players
Yep would love to play this while I am working overseas...but I can't even with a VPN.
All these MMO youtubers hype up these games that I always get disappointed when I actually play it. I guess its on to the next one eh?
Worst thing is they created a guild, based mainly on their popularity and made other people buy the game.
Now the hype-train is on Overwatch, then will be Uncharted 4 then will be another one and so on.....
CZcams becomed even worst than television :D
always...
''CZcams becomed even worst than television''
I agreed with you until bit one, you can easily avoid this by choosing your content more wisely.
Overwatch is a good game, I may rag on it's still a good game. Good PvP games will last, that uninteresting ones will not.
I never played an Uncharted game.
Afronautsays
Tell that to the main page eheh
Thank you for your detailed thoughts... I follow your route.
Refreshing point of view, thanks for uploading!
gonna play it for years :)
You still playing it? Considering to buy it.
Hehe let's say yes, but on a pause atm. The game is really good, but very pvp focused. Sometimes it is sold for 5€, it'd be bad not to buy it.
nice! At the end of this semester I'll give it a try!
idk why, but this video made me a little emotional.
you left first.. with your schooling.. like a nerd
+Fevir heeyyyyy, it was a necessary sacrifice :c miss you lots jelly tots
Good review. Helped me make the decision to play.
As always, nice review Fevir.
oh good, i have no friends and hate people as much as they hate me.
sounds like my type of thing.
This hype didn't last very long. I will be playing on and off probably a few more years.
Fantastic review and so well stated. Kudos to you, Fevir.
this is why I'm subscribed to you man. I love that you're so unbiased bro. thanks for your input.
yo man, you are the best reviewer for this game i have ever heard.. I feel sorry for those who rage quit it and review it very very bad after they encourage it very very much... THANKS for ur effort
I thought BDO would be my main MMORPG, as I have for many new MMOs. But I always end up getting bored and return to Maplestory or something.
this was beautiful :) i only played for 2 days in the free trial, but i was very interested in what you had to say :) much love
Entertaining gameplay, good music, and the commentary is dead on. Great video! You got a new subscriber
I think people who say BDO is shit after playing like 500+ hours are those people who played World of Warcraft for years and expect BDO to satisfy them for years, too.
Holy shit, could you think about walking around a forest and seeing this much shit?
This is the first good reviews I have seen. well done.
Thanks Fevir. out of all the I quit videos, this is the best one I've come across. Mind you I personally think a lot of the people who do these youtube tuts etc levelled up way to fast and as it's been said in the past. You benefit more from taking your time
"I won't go as far as saying you are playing the game wrong, but if you're only in it for the pvp you're doing it wrong" xD I'm in it for the pvp, nd i'd even go as far as to say that the rest of the aspects of the game is only in preperation for PvP. That's how i see it atleast.
That is really the problem I think for some people in the end it is why I decided that my time was better spent elsewhere.
To be competitive (which for me is the top 10%) I have to grind, grind, grind it gets boring, like the hours to get to 57 of just grinding, and after awhile it really just isnt fun. It took me awhile to see that because I am so used to doing whatever it takes to be on an even playing field in pvp regardless of the time investment to get there.
However I realized I wasnt enjoying myself and the game conditioned me first through the excitement with launch and then afk mechanics to always be logged in so when I getup, when I get home to check on how my fishing or training was going I was always immediately pulled back to the game.
With the character timer so visibly it made be realize I'd spent massive amounts of time in game. When it hits 55 days I realized wtf. I have other things I want to do and accomplish. What it takes to be in the top 10% isnt worth it to me. While I love the environment, my character, combat for the most part minus desync and how things favors ranged classes, it just isnt worth the time it requires. And I knew it would going in, I changed my mind and decided nah I'd rather be spending my time elsewhere for the return on time investment.
All I want to do is PvP and really there are other MMOs where I can do that quickly. They arent as beautiful of game worlds or with horse training or other things I love but that is ok.
I spent well over $30 investing in the game, I dont regret it and if I was in a different time maybe I would continue to be ok with the required time investment, for other people this is is the right time for them to invest into the game. BDO is what it is and that is great just as SWTOR is what it is and GW2 is what it is. I dont see why people need to hate these days, we should all be happy we have so many options and can find a game that fits our life styles.
Sorry for the rant :)
I agree, I think the initial phase of the game should get you immersed in the fantasy of the character and lore etc. Following that though, the only way to play and be interested in a game for a long amount of time is through competitive PvP.
Longest game I ever played (6 years of COH) was almost toally pvp free, so personally I just don't understand what you're saying. Every game I've played since was really single player on a multi player server and I just never had any fun in them.
so whats going to be your main MMO then?
Thank you for this video... i've been curious about BDO for a while and you've convinced me that this is the game that I have been looking for!
This video was very informing, subscribed
He said BDO is the most non multiplayer MMO hes played.
I'm curious whats the most Player interactive MMO youve played??
I love player interaction.
yeah i'm looking for a nice MMO to make some friends on but have yet to find a good one i enjoy
Runescape was definitely the most social mmorpg ever, from sittin or standin and talking to clans at war yelling at each other lol
Wakfu.
games without grinding have no progression.. finishing something then waiting for next patch for another release (raiding) isn't progression.
I played BDO for a month and a half and i enjoyed it, good purchase.
Games without rewards for that grinding have no progression, you've got it twisted. BDO has grinding for the sake of it, to raise arbitrary numbers (which have an RNG element, because FUCK daum). Theres no big bad guy to use the fruits of your grinding on because the game has no pve content aside from world bosses that need 40 people to kill regardless of your level.
not for me.. I just wish I can sell it and just get a little bit money back because I'm bored af
the game is only just begining, the rewards are huge for levleing up, you even 55 yet? once awakenings drop it will be a game changer, node wars soon which will make pvp a bigger part of the game.
Glad to hear from you, Fevir. Sorry to see you go in bdo, but hope you keep making vids.
It's also been about three weeks since you uploaded.
Welcome back ♥
I am looking at all these "why i quit bdo" videos, yet those scumbags make a hype video 1-3 months ago, great vid Fevir, at least your not in that scumbag catigory, i respect your video, i wont point names but i am gonna un-sub to some of them
3 months... SOO hyped, looked so amazing and unique and pretty much everyone quit it by now.. so disappointing, personally i quit after 1 or 2 weeks. I couldn't get through the leveling, soo boring and repetitive and i've even played it casually
Haha, I quit after a few days in beta I knew exactly what BDO was going to be. A soul destroying grind to max level. Got a lot of hate for speaking out and look at where everyone is now.
The majority still stuck in the endless grind? Someone sent halpp,
lol, try to play it as an mmorpg chase that's what it is, and you might enjoy it more. Did you even try following the town story/world story, I'm not talking about the spirit quest because that's another parallel story happening at the same time.
Brandon Moore
What's an mmorpg chase?
It's a type of cake
Sweet, love your review
Subbed
You speak very thoughtfully, I like it, subbed.
bought bdo, played it and then found out how much pay to win it was I quit! simple!
what part is pay to win?
you haven't even played it if your saying it's pay to Win
you haven't even played it if your saying it's pay to Win
lol you have no idea what pay to win is if you claim bdo is pay to win :)
nice joke man hahahaha
I was so sick of seeing "I quit BDO" videos and when I saw this, it was disappointing to say the least. But, even though you did the exact thing you were critical of in the video (justifying), you didn't bash the game (too much) so there's that. Sad to see you go.
Many of these youtubers play these MMO's way more than the rest of us. That's partly the reason why the quit so soon. They run out of shit to do so fast.
I suppose. Maybe I'm slow in gearing up, but for me personally this game has so much to offer still. Oh well :)
EvilCookieElf I haven't done shit yet. Made a boat. That's pretty much it. There's no way I'll ever run out of things to do.
+Skeptic Gamer Exactly!
I don't look at it like I quit the game- it's more like I completed it. When they add more I'll be back.. youtubers (even myself who doesn't do this for a living) have probably played the game more in these 3 months than most people would play in a full year.
Ok, i like this video :D its great and you explained really nicely con and pros :D ... Subscribe deserved
This was a great take Fevir. The most accurate assesment IMO
BDO has everything a mmo needs.pvp, pve, trading, crafting, fishing, exploration, horse breeding and that is just the tip of things. One thing it does not have which an mmorpg should not have is mindless gameplay. Take overwatch all it is is a cookie cutter copy over a generic shooter not an mmo. BDO brings mmos back to an age where mmos were fun and not easy. Today's world wants things now instant gratification.
but BDO isn't even difficult. Overwatch is definitely not cookie cutter shooter. Not many shooters these days require you to rely on your team like overwatch.
mindless gameplay is a stupid design, because it is mindless.
+RaxorX oh but it is a game lasts 5 minutes then you do it again and again it's like being in that movie groundhogs day. that is mindless gameplay.
Every competitive shooter relies on how competent your team is. Besides Overwatch has to be one of the most boring fps I've played in awhile imo
Couldn't agree more about Overwatch. Friend gave me a beta key, played it for an hour, got bored and uninstalled. It's a generic FPS with MOBA elements.
I wrote a comment on the vid "only 100k playing " of fevir and predicted why not many ppl will stay on bdo for a longer time and that it will be dead sooner or later in the West because it just doesnt appeal over longer periods to the majority of the western gamers. well my prediction is coming true right now, more and more ppl quitting and every day a new youtuber posting a vid why they quit . And no im not happy about that ppl are quitting because i also loved the game, but still gotta say "I told ya so biatches". sorry
Want your medal now?
most the quitters are folks who wrongly expected it to be this pvp wonderland so they got bored when they realised it isnt.
CZcamsrs aren't a good metric and most MMORPGs will lose players over time and pick them up on expansions. 3 months is even enough time for these types of games to settle to it's core audience and this game has been messing that up with constantly large accelerated content drops.
i have the feeling that it would happen the same as mabinogi, they would try to milk it instead of releasing more content in europe or caring about the people not as a number but as clients that must be satisfied
Korean game companys just cant handle anything which is not asia. But the western world mostly just doesnt want an endless grind with no real goals. And therefore most just play it for a few weeks until they did everything they wanted to and then leave. Thats not necessarily a bad thing for a single player game, but for a mmorpg its a catastrophy if after 3 months half the ppl who bought it stopped playing on regular basis
Great video, 100% agree about day/ night cycle. Should be in all "sandboxish" games and more.
Great review thank you.
You, sir, are worthy of my subscription. You expressed your thoughts so well in a fair, relatively objective and cohesively structured way. I greatly, greatly appreciate that. You have it in you man.
This is a pvp game! If you are lvl 53 right now you are a pleb, and are not playing at the highest lvl, where I pvp for grind spots EVERY DAY. There's a hardcore experience, and another experience that I guess doesn't work for youtubers
They didn't say its a "pvp" game ...they didn't market it as one -_- A true pvp game are mobas, multiplayer shooters, chess...where the only way to play is fighting against another player LOL
Show me where it says its a pvp game rather than just showing a different mode availabale in the game -_- No where on BDO does it say its meant to be a pvp game -_-
Node Wars, Sieges, soon to come naval combat, pvp over grind spots
those are modes that dont make the game -__- pvp is like 1/3 of thegame and youre making ti sound like its only meant to be played a pvp LOL
uhhhhhh okay whatever
You know what... You are genuinely one of my favorite CZcamsrs always looking forward to your uploads
That makes me feel good to read.
Fantastic review
People praise the good parts and criticise the bad. The thing is the good parts no matter how good wont stay fun forever, eventually people get bored of them. The problem with that is the bad parts don't stop being bad, they are a constant annoyance throughout the experience. When people stop playing a game it is usually because the things they found fun are no longer fun and all that is left to experience is the things that are shit and that is all they end up talking about, the stuff they hated. This absolutely does not make the criticism baseless.
You claim that the "core, not hidden game mechanics are suddenly a problem" for people. I'd disagree, I would say that they were always a problem, the people who don't like them never liked them, it's just that they enjoyed other aspects of the game enough to overlook it's significant flaws.
Also. you pretty much seem to open with the idea that people should know what they are getting into and shouldn't complain when the game turns out to not meet their expectations...and then, immediately after making that point, you complain that the game lacks group activities...a conclusion I came to within about 2 days.
The.. I guess nuance here.. is that there is a difference between having opinions and preferences and saying.. I don't like this game because it has grinding and I don't like grinding and saying.. this game is terrible, fuck this grindfest.
I cant even start to like this game from videos. The fight just looks like you are doing the same shit again and again while not being in any danger. AOE, AOE, AOE, AOE .... million enemies dead.. great, now to the next horde of enemies...
Happens in every game when you overgear stuff.. although this game is doesn't shy away from aoe stuff
do people still play this? if they do I might get it.
only lazy or skillless ppl make always the same thing and btw play black desert and try to use all skill, if you can master and can use all skill in any situation then you are very good but im prettey sure you cant :) this game isnt like other game which you use only few keys like 1,2,3,4...8,9 etc. in bdo you use key combinations ;) do the same shit on pvp you will lay 24/7. so you can go afk laying while others go afk fishing ;)
@88Tarik06 "this game isnt like other game which you use only few keys like 1,2,3,4...8,9 etc" hahahahahaha nice joke. instead of button mashing keys, you button mash key combination. hahahahaha
SapiaNt0mata if you don't use the right combos, you don't get the full effect of each skill. The combat system can be boring if you decide to use the same skills over and over, but you won't receive the full experience doing that. Most skills provide different buffs and debuffs, and learning which to use and how to combo them without taking damage is pretty challenging. Again, you can just mash the same buttons and MAKE yourself bored, or you can take full control of the tools given to you and master them.
You are incredibly level headed and considerate on your opnions. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks for the great vid u convinced me to try the game
I'm sorry but you sound pretty bias and very anti-opinion from the rest of the community
I get it everyone has different experience and everyone likes different things. but dicretidint other people though and putting them under the rug like they don't exist is really kinda bad.
an mmo that only offers a month of 2 is not a good a mmo infact that is garbage and we all know at this point that it's not just 30 dollars infact just by this video alone I can tell you already spended 60+ dollars into this 1-2 month deal...
rng sucks, grinding sucks and just because "it's a Korean mmo" doesn't justify the poor content that it offers its a good thing it's trying to do its own thing but it's not a good thing, that the content is just mindless and dull, specially the leveling, and the simple fact that it's the mmo with the least online interaction it's already another huge problem.....one of many you seem to just ignore completely expect for the one I just said.
I'm sorry but reason you aren't playing is because it has nothing more to offer and that's another big one....mmo has end game something to keep players playing if more people are like you ( quit because there's nothing more) then that's a big fucking issue that you also are ignoring....
sorry but this game just don't cut it. one thing is liking another one is just been bias and even defending poor development choices.
also I don't know who are you trying to fool that this game ain't pvp intensive... just 1% you aren't playing the game too much outside of your comfort zone, this game is pretty heavy on pvp and I can't count how many time I've been killed or I have killed and while sometimes fun mostly server lag sucks pretty bad.
Your main issue seems to be projected expectations from the label MMO/RPG. The idea that just because it only held people's attention for x months when it 'should' hold it for more somehow makes it less of a game/garbage is only a point that can be made because of an assumption of what is supposed to happen for MMO/RPGs. With a different label your main criticism goes away.
Fevir so no offence fevir because I love your videos but your only contra argument aimed to my statement that the game garbage?
let's go with that... so assuming we apply your argument that im projecting this game as an mmo, lets say I don't and this is just on open world rpg with online elements... even if it's not a freaking mmo my friend... when the core concept of your game is having an online comunity that move the world around you... the last thing you want to do is offer a limited amount of time before running out of things to do, making people leaving such community...
even the most basic multiplayers out there like cod or not even cod habbo back in the day for example had a system to offer it's player a means to come back and keep progressing and I ensure you that these systems would last more than 2 month.
a game that it's online that only offers 2-3 months of play is a failure of a system, and you can see that by the incredibly rapid decrease of player this community is leaking. no matter how much you liked the game you can't just denied that. whether it's korean, chinese, japanese, american or european. this game is poorly developed.
my statement still stand... this mmo is garbage, whit little to no change of recovering up it's player base....
fleeplayTV My statement is soley about you projecting your expectations and even in this response you can't get away from them.
"a game that it's online that only offers 2-3 months of play is a failure of a system" -Why?
"and you can see that by the incredibly rapid decrease of player this community is leaking"
Most similar games have dwindling playerbases until they settle and BDO is will be no different and the meaty cool stuff isn't released yet.
"this game is poorly developed" .. based on it's popularity? Come on dude- you know better than to make that connection between popularity > quality.
"my statement still stand... this mmo is garbage" - And my statement stands with... most of your gripes are based on projections onto the game. Your reasoning so far have been..
If I could get 3 months out of every game I played I'd be happy. Most people would be too.. it's only when you apply your expectations on it where you assume that it should keep you occupied for longer where you start to see it as a negative.
"a game that it's online that only offers 2-3 months of play is a failure of a system" -Why?
- because if it wasn't obvious enough my friend, the last thing you want in game where online is the sole basis of it is offer your customers a limited amount of time before they can head out. solely hurting the community your game desperately needs, that's why mmo's and other online multiplayer games have end games... or some mean of replay value that makes the player come back. and you keep asking why, because simply that just hurts your product. is not the same as a single player, these mmos either launch good or don't launch at all and this is what will happen with BDO.
"Most similar games have dwindling playerbases until they settle and BDO is will be no different and the meaty cool stuff isn't released yet."
- this is not true most mmo specially these types always have the same problem, over hyped launches and rapidly decreases of subase because it just doesn't cut it. mmos like blade and souls, guildwars and wildstar started even better than BDO reaching over 2 million subs and decreasing on subs after the month or 2 end up forgotten with a very small community...BDO didn't even reached the million.
"this game is poorly developed" .. based on it's popularity? Come on dude- you know better than to make that connection between popularity > quality."
- seriously m8? are you telling me that if this game was truly well developed it will be dropping subs like this? I understand you like the game but now you are just been bias. YES i can make a connection between popularity>quality , if the game was properly developed it would have a system to keep its community, to give player a meaning to come back, or not to leave on the first place. given that the current active players is under 100k this game is gigantic failure to, not only mmo but industry standars.
we can honestly keep going back and forth with this but I already tired of writting bibles so lets agree to disagreed, I've seen this patter to many times already to know where this game is going, and played it enough to know what this game is....
if you want a good example of a good mmo experience look at games like ff11, wow, eve online, ff14 those game from the beguinning where massive success with only increases in it's communities...the different on the patter between good mmo and bad one is pretty big and pretty obvious.
every casuals opinion
Seems you missed his point: This is a game for casuals--not for hardcore PvPers. You might disagree with him, but dismissing what he said as a "casual's opinion" is halfwitted.
Tell guys at 57th level with ap+dp>300 they're casuals. xDDDD
MrEtherlord LOL, you mean the ones that quit? or the ones still whining constantly? I guess they'd be easy enough to find. Anyway--you must not have watched the video or missed the point entirely. I was only restating what the video said for the other mouth breather. The people who play casually are still happy with the game.
As a casual I'm enjoying myself :).
Well, I wasn't referrencing to video only subOP comment. This game is highly enjoyable for casuals AND truly hardcore players. Hardcore ≠ PvP.
Wow I'm impressed not many people can give an honest and unbiased review (idk whatever this is) like yours. Well Done!
Incredibly helpful in deciding whether or not to play. Thanks!
The game is just not good, Fevir.
100% style over substance.
Jesus... I think this is the first completely coherent and rational video I've seen about any game in general in maybe the last year. I don't play BDO but your points are easy to consider and digest in equal measure.
Holy shit this guy is good. Very good video. Nice breakdown. Subbed.
You seem to have a great perspective on things!
youre talking out of my heart with the singel player part ^^
Best "Why I quit BDO" vid on CZcams I have encountered so far. Gotta subscribe you just because of this vid.
ur insight makes me want to play the game even more
great video man keep it up
This is so far the best final thoughts/review i have seen. Unlike those other you tubers who just QQs (cough cough), this one has earned my respect.
Do love your fair approach to this game. I've stopped playing too but will also go back sometimes with land expansions etc. I think this is a great game and hope it does well in future.
Well, I can't say I'm not disappointed. Was still waiting for that tamer guide, but your reasons are well thought-out. I have had a wonderful time since I found good guild to be a part of, and I would argue that there IS a significant amount of interplay with other players to come. Node wars require a ton of cooperation, and provide dynamic PVP content with more than just deathmatch. As always, servers need to be improved, but I can only imagine that Daum is working with its hosting partners and PA to address that issue. Good luck with your future gaming, and thanks for not needlessly bashing the game.
Love your Honesty man!
