  • I'm building a parlor guitar for the Great Guitar Build Off 2021! In this video I complete most of the detailed fiddly parts of the construction of the guitar (binding, purfling, end graft, frets, and neck fitting).
    Enjoy!

    This is fabulous, almost every part in this series shows some trick or problem solved. How about that fret hammer, it's almost quiet!

    you acoustic guys are so clever...you need your own contest, as you just have such a unique skill set compared to us electric builders.

    Enjoying your build. Kudos for showing all of the dirty laundry along the way. Nice recovery on the rosette. Thank Ben and the GGBO for me finding your channel. Can't wait to hear it.

      Thanks a lot! I'm a hobbyist and I learn a lot from my mistakes, so I'm trying to show some of that process. Glad you're enjoying the build!

    That’s pretty cool the neck attachment you came up with I didn’t understand at first what you were doing but then I said Ahh Haa**** A Bolton neck without any glue.👏👏🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏👨🏻‍🦯

      Thanks! I was inspired by Taylor guitars, and luthier Liutaio Mottola. This is my first neck like this though so... I hope it's strong enough! 🤞

    Looking good mate. Thats an interesting approach to the neck joint. Not seen a bolt on done quite that way before. Different, but effective - good job

    The neck slot turned out nice and clean, but yes it's a pain to cut end-grain like that.

  • @GarlandStringedInstruments

    Fascinating! - I'm at exactly the same stage and doing exactly the same neck joint (my next video, real soon now 😉). Your slightly different approach is really interesting to watch. Good, clean work, congratulations!

    Really good coverage of the bolt on neck process! I like it -simple and effective.
    Lots of other little tidbit details as well, is that a fiat spider in the background near the end?

    • @BWorks
      @BWorks  Před 2 lety

      Hey thanks! It's actually a VW Westfalia in the garage at the end. Hard to tell, with only the bottom 2 ft of it visible.

      @@BWorks ok, if you look up early (68-71) or so fist spiders you’ll see a very similar wheel/hubcap . Cheers

    Right at this minute I have a Republic Parlor Guitar. I love it but I wonder if I could make my own how it would compare. It's a beautiful little guitar. Maybe if I made my own, and put more effort into building it, it would sound even better. I want to make one but where do I start? I have next to no wood working tools. What do I need? Is it even possible with little tools?

      With no tools, your best bet would be to check out a guitar kit. Stewmac and Lmii sell them. Solo Music Gear sells a parlor guitar kit. Check out Stewmac's guitar repair videos, Robbie OBrien, Ted Woodford, and many others on youtube. The Guild of American Luthiers is a great resource as well.
