    The sound is very nice. Back and sides are interesting and nice looking. Top is rather plane but that is common with a lot of Spruce top guitars. Over all a very good guitar and you got the most important part right the sound. It has a lovely mellow sound that is quite enjoyable.

    I liked learning that the telltale blue staining that I've seen in lumber over the years is actually wood that was infected with the mountain pine beetle, and sprayed (?) with bug-kill. I've always wondered about that blue! That does bring an interesting element to the wood project, a bit of history. Thanks for that!
    Also wanted to pay respect to that priceless moment in part five when the heel meets the body of the guitar, after you've been sliding the sandpaper out from in between (great technique, by the way). When the curve of the body meets the one on the neck...it's just perfect. I let out a little "oh" when they came together! Nice work.

    • @BWorks
      @BWorks  Před 3 lety +2

      Thanks so much! Getting that neck to fit took some time, but it was so satisfying! That technique I learned from watching Ted Woodford (twoodfrd on youtube).
      As for the blue staining, the trees aren't actually sprayed with anything. The wood is just referred to as bug-kill pine where I'm from, as in pine killed by bugs ("denim pine" is a nicer name if you ask me, but "bug-kill pine" certainly tells it like it is.) The staining itself is actually from a fungus that comes in with the pine beetle when it burrows into the tree, which I neglected to mention in the vid. In any case, I wanted to add a little context to the wood I used, and why it's important to me, so I'm glad it interested you!

    I have a feeling in my water that this year's GGBO winner will have built an acoustic, so you're in with a very decent chance of at least getting into the top 10.

    I appreciate the workmanship gone into this build. I have built a few acoustics. But, why use Pine with KNOTS?
    Pine is fine but knots want to push out, and do , over time. I wonder?

    • @BWorks
      @BWorks  Před 2 lety +1

      I did it just for aesthetics, and for something different. The knots may push out one day, as you say - only time will tell.

    Great guitar build love the detail. I don't know if I've missed a video but I don't understand the neck attachment?? You have fitted thread inserts into the neck/fingerboard extension but then cut the top away. There doesn't appear to be a neck block extension below so I'm puzzled where you bolt that to, apart from the heel bolts of course?? Great video though.

    • @BWorks
      @BWorks  Před rokem

      Thanks! Yeah it's easy to miss - In part 5 at 9:22 you see me install the clamp. A u-shaped clamp bolts to those inserts and holds the soundboard against the fretboard.

    • @davidjennings9253
      @davidjennings9253 Před rokem +1

      @@BWorks Hi, Yes I see it now - interesting method - do you think clamping works as well as if you extended the neck block to incorporate the fixings?? I can't help feeling you lose rigidity in the top with that huge cutout.

    • @BWorks
      @BWorks  Před rokem

      @@davidjennings9253 it only works because the neck extends into the guitar top as well, not just the fretboard. So the neck acts as support for the top, instead of vise versa. The neck in turn is supported by the neck block which has a Spanish foot for extra strength. To be honest, future guitars of mine will either have a more supportive neck block as you suggest, or else an upper bout that is completely free of the fretboard and supported separately, to allow it to vibrate more freely. I plan on trying both methods - I'm still experimenting. That said, this guitar has remained stable so far, a year and a half on

    • @davidjennings9253
      @davidjennings9253 Před rokem +1

      @@BWorks I only made this point as, over the years I have done a number of neck resets where the top at the upper bout has started to distort and collapse into the sound hole so it just seems that you must lose an awful lot of strength when you cut that much of the top away. Admittedly those repairs have been on vintage instruments of up to 50 years of age so time had taken it's toll. If your guitar has remained stable then great and it busts a lot of theories on top construction and bracing. I have always used the extended laminated neck block to which I bolt through to the fingerboard extension as well as the neck heel. Keep up the great videos and best wishes for the future builds.

    Looks and sounds great!! Like the use of all local timbers. That pine is very nice👍. How many days did you spread the french polishing over?

    • @BWorks

    Nice job, could you tell me what kind of tuners are on that guitar I kinda like them. Thanks

    • @BWorks
      @BWorks  Před 3 lety

      They're just cheapie tuners from Amazon. They're actually not too bad for their price point - they hold a tuning and have metal ring handles - they're ok.

  • @petermorello1051
    @petermorello1051 Před 2 lety +1

    what machine heads are they?

    • @BWorks
      @BWorks  Před 2 lety +1

      Just cheap tuners from amazon - they work all-right. I do like the ring-handle design though - I'll have to see if I can find a higher quality tuner in this design.
