  • Since a number of people asked for it, here goes. Enjoy.
I also give a list of steambendable woods I was successful with:
walnut, red gum/satin walnut, maple, rosewood, apple, cherry, plum, pear, chestnut, bocote, black locust, oak, ash.

I think there are a lot of people that don’t really comprehend what goes into making a Guitar by hand, and think they’re “overpriced” at times. They prob have an image of machines making them in a factory.
This was super in depth, amazing work, and overall an enjoyable watch. That’s a gorgeous piece of work!
You basically gave away your hearts work for a good cause!

My jaw dropped when you mentioned the price you asked. Some students are getting the deal of a lifetime. These are quite possibly the best looking standard, non-premium acoustics I've seen in my life. Well done. Just... well done. If I lived in Deutschland I'd be seriously pestering you for guitar making tuition!

Thank you SO much for taking the trouble to add your commentary. I have worked with wood, in a cabinet-maker's shop, before; and I consider myself fortunate to have had that job AFTER 20 years as a Handyman/wood-butcher. So I was able to appreciate the beauty of the wood working. I'm glad to learn of your view on finishes, too - I agree that wood should be sealed but able to breathe somewhat. Now, I like an electric guitar to gleam like a show-car, but for acoustics, the sound is more important; and finishes can be touched up or renewed.

I’ve made a number of acoustic guitars, dreadnoughts, jumbo and a small bodied guitars from old pianos (some over 100 yrs old) which people are happy to give away. They have lots of spruce in the soundboards though in varying qualities of grain patterns. I have used the woods from the piano sides which are often birch or polar for guitar sides which are softwoods. Even though they sound very good I came to the realisation that hard woods are needed for strength of the soundbox plus the reflective properties of hardwoods like mahogany, rosewood etc. that contribute to their sonic properties. Making guitars is like making a cake, you use all the best ingredients but don’t know how it tastes until you hit the first chord. 😀
