Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver | EDH $50 PRECON UPGRADE | Commander | Midnight Hunt Commander | Zombies

On BudgetEDH we build fun and optimized commander decks with a pre-set budget in mind. In this week's episode, we build a $50 budget Wilhelt, the Rotcleaver deck from the Magic the Gathering set Innistrad Midnight Hunt Commander. Wilhelt is a legendary zombie that has the powerful ability to create zombies whenever another zombie without decayed dies. In addition, he sacrifices zombies at your end step, allowing you to draw a card in the process. In this deck we focus heavily on the sacrifice theme, and build a budget zombie aristocrats deck that has a lot of ways of flooding the board with zombie tokens. We have a lot of ways of using those tokens to generate additional value, in addition to attacking our opponents.

Very good video! My favorite zombie though is Gravecrawler. Definitely fairly expensive, but being able to recast him from your graveyard for just the one mana (or for free with Rooftop storm) is immensely powerful when combined with a sac outlet like Altar of Dementia. Super thicccc

A bit late, but a card that I feel is a MUST include for a Wilhelt deck is Poppet Stitcher from the Midnight Hunt set itself. Specifically, it's transformed side.
The front is a 2U 2/3 Human Wizard that gives you a 2/2 Decayed zombie when you cast an instant/sorcery, and you can transform it on your upkeep if you have 3+ creature tokens. The transformed side is Popper Factory which has "Creature tokens you control lose all abilities and have base P/T 3/3 (And you can transform it for free on your upkeep, but you'll probably never wanna flip it back).
What this means is it effectively turns Wilhelt's first ability infinite. Your decayed zombies lose decayed, so if, for example, you sac one to Altar of Dementia, you'll get another 2/2 zombie with decayed, which will lose decayed and become 3/3

I wonder what an unlimited cost upgrade would look. I've already put in underground sea, imperial seal, demonic tutor, patriarchs bidding and I'm just digging through binders for other relevant upgrades.
I'd put in mox sapphire and mox jet if they were legal, but they aint.

I believe halfway in he shows 10 cards he recommends adding, then after that he talks about ten cards he thinks you should remove from the deck because they aren’t super good.
