It's been almost 2 months since I put orignal Cerakote coating on my car. I knew already it was prone to fail with less than optimal conditions (ambient temperature, humidity) so I used electric heater in garage to bump the temperature to 20 deg C. Also after applying it, I allowed it to sit for 15 minutes (3 times what instructions call for) before leveling and buffing it out. I was supprised that buffing out was not hard at all with that prolonged time. I would compare that to buffing out a paste wax. Then the car was left sitting in the garage for a few days and first wash was about 2-3 weeks later (using mild snow foam and shampoo). To this day the paint is slick, deep shiny and beeds crazy round drops. If it stays like that for a year I will call that a success.
Good to see someone test it. The big channels seem to ignore the new product now. Why? Curious to see the performance on the long run...
I’m pretty sure there was a change in the v2 otherwise it wouldn’t make much sense to have a v2? and the pads don’t crystallise. i did do 2 cars with the first version in january and 1 is still good
Fellow Detailer & CZcams channel here. I also made a video on this and glad to see your experience with it and results. In my testing as well, there was no way I’d let the coating flash for 5 minutes before leveling it; needed to be leveled relatively fast, maybe within 2 mins. The only major difference I got from my testing is that it was definitely very slick and very glossy, perhaps one of the most slick and glossy coatings I’ve applied.
Subscribed, keep up the videos. Look forward to seeing your channel grow 🤝🫡
Many thanks for your support! I will definitely check out your video! I was hoping for more slickness but from what I can tell from my experience so far is that slickness is almost irrelevant to how the coating performs.
@@DetailProjects Hello, how are you? Are your products available in Iraq and where are they located?
the thing with coatings crystalizing in the applicator, and ive talked to a handful of companies about this. the ones that do harden are still utilizing "older" ceramic coating technology in their formulas. the ones that don't crystalize are using "newer" technology in theirs. is one better than the other? in my testing, neither older nor newer seems to show any substantial difference as I have coatings of both types doing really good.
Interesting, that is good to know, Thanks for sharing this! What are some other examples of coatings that use this newer technology?
@@DetailProjects DIY Detail/C6 Ceramics, Gyeon Mohs EVO, Apex BC7, Ethos Graphene Matrix
I've tried the apex 1 3 year coating , love it I've order 3 bottle already from him .
Guess that Gyeon Can Coat Evo is still on the older tech. It’s my go to, and although not a true “ceramic coating” I love the ease of use and cost to performance ratio. Re do it yearly or every 18 months and it’s golden.
@@x0Diesel0x I've been wanting to try out threw can coat , seems super efficient and easy to apply . I have used the Adams graphene spray coating and it does last what they say from my experience on my jeep.
Looks good.
You really should have just waited the 5 minutes. It doesn’t dry that fast. I applied mine in higher temps, waited the 5 mins, and leveling was easy without issue.
Edit: applied v2 2 weeks later. Waited 5 mins for the first panel and had a hassle to remove. Whatever they changed seems to also affect that 5 minute window.
Great video! May I ask what the ambient temperature was in your garage and humidity?
Thanks! The temperature was 19C and humidity was 39%
Thanks for this video. My kit is on the way and I’m going to be giving it go. Do you know if it mentions anything about being applicable to glass, plastic, or rubber portions of the car? Thanks again.
Thanks! CERAKOTE says It’s safe for all exterior surfaces including plastic trim and glass. Hope it works out for you!
Thank you!
What is the slickest & glossiest ceramic coating you have used ??
thanks for your feedback. How would you say this compares to Adam's Professional Graphene Coating?
I haven’t tried Adams coatings. Maybe in the future I can do some comparison
I'm very curious to see all the reviews of this version!
Did you get a chance to try V2 out as yet?
@@DetailProjects I have not.
Not sure if I'd be worried about the applicator not hardening, I've seen that before most recently with Tac Systems coatings although they were sub one year coatings, but still good. What makes it a little, actually a lot, unappealing is the specific application parameters, like temperature. That rules the product out for a lot of people. The lack of high slickness and shine doesn't entice me either. I can't see this coating rustling feathers with the likes of CarPro, amongst others
Their ‘innovative’ way of stating the life of the product is completely absurd. It’s like they didn’t do they couldn’t be directly compared to anything else.
We all know that coatings won’t all get what they state in years, but it gives something to compare to others with.
No way this is a ‘20 year coating’.
I just got mine V2 , I will be installing It outside on my jeep
In the instructions, is there a "Too High Temperature" to apply? And or "Too High Humidity"???
No they don’t. The only thing they say in their application manual instructions is to apply at 65F or higher. I myself was surprised they didn’t mention anything about humidity requirements?
@@DetailProjects Ok, will be receiving my new coating from them shortly & will be applying to my car?
Hello, how are you? Are your products available in Iraq and where are they located?
Whatever they changed affected the 5 minute flashing window from v1. Definitely not as easy to apply as v1 (if sticking to 5 mins)
Are the 2 bottles v2?
Yes they are.
Be nice to see a torture test on the product as in a iron fall out remover to see how it with stands up against the chemical as this will be used on a car in a normal wash . Most cars are cleaned and an iron remover used so the ceramic coating should last and not be phased by this
I will be doing a Decon wash on my 30 day update video coming soon
Cerakote says that this is a new formula, not just repackaging....did you hear differently?
From what I recall, when they pulled V1 off the market, the only thing they were going to change with V2 was the curing mechanism instructions. I haven’t heard anything about them changing the formula, but if they did, it’s not a bad thing I guess?
@@DetailProjects I noticed that someone commented about it on their Cerakote video and they commented that the formula was updated. all related to Curing as you noted. I'm very curious to try this myself.
Interesting! Well so far it’s been good. I’m waiting to do my 30 day follow up and see how it does after I wash it.
worst color to test this on😉 i'm waiting on my 2.0 kit so i can test it fot myself
Agreed!
Just watching your hands is driving me nuts.
