  • LD Systems MAUI 44 G2 Portable Column PA System (Review) | My New Favorite Speakers
    The LD Systems MAUI® 44 G2 is the flagship of the MAUI series column PAs: it offers an enormous 1,500 watts of total output (RMS) with a frequency response of 37 Hz to 20 kHz and a sound-level pressure of 132 dB (peak). With its outstanding sound properties and wide-ranging functions, this compact column PA is perfect for rental companies, musicians, small clubs, street festivals, and permanent installations. The cardioid properties of the column elements and the possibility of creating a cardioid bass with an additional subwoofer further highlight the professional nature of this sound system. The column achieves a rear attenuation of 18 dB, the subwoofer 15 dB. The MAUI® 44 G2 also sets the tone when the two-part column is equipped with twelve 3.5" neodymium full-range speakers and four 1" HF drivers with waveguides. The phase plugs on the six upper drivers improve horizontal directivity, reduce distortion and optimize the sensitivity below the crossover frequency for the tweeters. In addition, the four tweeters feature specially designed and optimized compression drivers coupled to a constant directivity waveguide to provide 120° of coverage across the width and 25° of focused vertical directivity. The curved design of the waveguide transports more energy in the high frequencies to listeners standing further away.

    I just heard the LD Maui G2, evolve 50 & RCF EVOX12 side by side. The LD has the best sound, The Bass is warm and deeper compared to the RCF. The RCf tops sound great but it doesn't have the deep bass that i like. The evolve 50 overall sounds good for a 12" sub its a nice size package. The only down fall on the LD is the size. Its huge!!! I might still pick a pair up once they have bags available.

    I love your videos... you are really great at doing them. So question for you DJ Barr... How would you compare these Maui 44 G2's to the BassBoss DV12 Mark II's? I know it's a completely different type of sound system, but I am curious of your thoughts on the quality of sound of one vs. the other. I'm leaning towards a purchase of two of the DV12 Mark II"s, but I view these Maui 44 G2's as perhaps a next best option that is slightly less expensive, but since you've reviewed both, I am curious of your thoughts on them in comparison to one another. Thanks again!

    Right now I am running 2 SRX815P's with 2 SRX828SP's.... The sound is great but setup and teardown time for a Solo Mobile DJ is really getting old. I have ordered 2 Maui 44 G2's and selling my 2 SRX815P's and 1 of my SRX828SP's. Easier setup and Teardown and when I need the extra low end I will wheel out the 1 SRX828SP dual 18 for Proms/Homecomings etc...
    Good review sir. I am looking forward to these coming in! If anyone is near Atlanta Ga and wants some practically new SRX815P's and a SRX828SP let me know! Letting them go for way under what I paid! :)

    At this price you start to run into some stiff competition which would have me at least looking (and listening to) other options. Example: (2) Db Technologies IG3T's over (2) Db Technologies Sub 915's is about the same price and packs some serious, serious output (and clarity). One could argue the above mentioned db Tech system is a bit more flexible of a setup and can be used for small and large events - hence needing to own only one PA system (e.g. tops and subs can be used separately and in different combinations). Don't get me wrong the 44''s seem like great speakers and I certainly trust your assessment (thank you for the vid) - it's just the price has edged up into the territory where lions and tigers also live. Nonetheless enjoy them - as I know you will satisfy many customers with them, and in the end that's what it's all about.

    I just checked the price. They are $2900 each or with tax you can expect to pay $6000 for a pair. That seems really steep. However they do get louder than most systems of this type at 132db. Also I can hear from the video that they have much more bass than the Evox.
    I use my array system for weddings and birthdays. The setup is much easier and it's so easy to pack this system up.

      @@jonathanberube5056 give it two or three months they’re still fresh for you. We always live out new toys! I’ve only heard them and they sound good no doubt but 2800 dollars good absolutely not. They are the closest to my etx rig as I’ve ever heard and they are benefits for sure. Wider dispersion and size are a big deal. They are alittle easier on the ears up close but don’t hit the SPL and low frequency performance that our regular boxes have. But I also don’t believe they are supposed too. If these were priced at 1999 I’d feel alittle different about that kind of investment. This is all personal opinion not bad but I don’t believe they are a significant better system than a pair of EKX 18s and EKX12ps. Or rcf 712s and 8005s and they all sit in an sound the same price the traditional boxes being slightly less expensive

    • @jonathanberube5056
      @jonathanberube5056 Před 2 lety

      @@DJLEOdamadprofessor I think you are missing the point of these speakers. It is 100% about the look that most customers want to see at their event with 90% of the performance of an SRX800/ETX/KW kinda of system. I also have SRX815P over SRX818Sp system and RCF HD45A or NXL24 over 8004 system for comparison. I would say "real world" SPL is similar to a EKX level setup, but at the same time the EKX take up way more space for transport and takes way more time to setup. The main goal of this system is to get performance nearing SRX/ETX/KW without the obtrusive look and bulk of transport. If I need to melt peoples faces I will just bring my RCF HD45A over (4) 8004, but that is overkill and a 20K sound system. Also I only paid $2,400 for the G2's, so a better deal can be had out there.

    There’s such a boomer stigma to using column arrays. When I attend weddings with them, I’m thinking Brian S Redd and yacht rock.

      Disculpa no entiendo lo que quieres decir!! Con tu comentario!! Pero creo que tiene un poco de sarcasmos!! Y con todo respeto me atrevo a responder a tu comentario, estas bocinas dan la impresión que fueron diseñadas para usarlas en casa !! pero no es así !! por que yo las tengo y las eh probado en mi casa y te soy honesto esta bocinas hacen vibrar toda la casa por esta razón no te dejes engañar por el tamaño de esta bocinas !! yo usaba las SRX835P y las cambié por las Maui ya que las Maui les superan en calidad y volumen talvez en cuanto a Presión sonorá las jbl les superan un poco pero está Maui les hacen la competencia dicho esto no quiero decir que la SRX son malas!! pero las Maui son más fáciles de transportar mas elegantes sin embargo las JBL eran un problema a la hora de transpórtalas siempre necesitaba de ayuda,, hoy día la mayoría de party son en salones o en lugares pequeños donde no se necesita de tantas bocinas y te van a pagar lo mismos!! llevare un cerro de bocinas no da ninguna impresión !! Tal ves entre los djs nos damos esa impresión pero la mayoría de la gente solamente quiere oír calidad y que les des un buen entretenimiento en cuanto a animación no los vas a impresionar con bocinas sino con calidad y música variada es mi pequeña opinión con mucho respeto!!

    They are great but too expensive, 2x art 932A are 1700euro, another 2 subs 15/18" are 2000euros?..why spend 6000? for 50% less power?

    • @xcnevents
      @xcnevents Před 2 lety

      basically for the form factor and they are easiest to work with against de traditional PA. if the price were the correct i take this without thinking about, on the other hand you lose some portability and aesthetics to achieve more power with art, srx or similar. choices choices....
