hammer throw main exercise and strength exercise
FYI just returned from a DIscus comp where Connor Bell, the 21yo from New Zealand broke the NZ record for the 2nd time in a month with approx 66.40m Wasn't a great wind, pretty strong headwind and coming from the left a bit. Matt Denny, the Commonwealth Games golf medalist only managed in the 62s I think.

Highland Gamer. Of course we throw rocks. Why would we throw anything else?
In couple months i will have my first rock throw competition, can i train the same as shot putters?
@@georgedj4937 - Find out what surface you’ll throw from because that will make the biggest difference. Grass surfaces can be anything from sticky to slick, so you’ll be either be swapping shoes or throwing style to accommodate. (Some games love to host sloped trigs. Haha. Have fun with that.). But some games throw from sand, some dirt, some plywood, and some from a hard surface.
You’ll will have more ground to work with, particularly if you adopt a modified South African and learn to use the diagonal.
All stones are different. Most have some weird weight distribution. There are techniques you can use to assess how you would hold an unbalanced stone). Weights are not guaranteed to be 16 and 22. The Portland Oregon stone weighs 90+ lbs, for example. Learn what they throw and find a practice implement that mimics it. Keep in mind that stone surfaces run from smooth to make-you-bleed jagged. Most serious gamers have a collection of practices stones that mimic the size, shape and weights of the stones of the games they commonly compete in.
Most games have two stone events, and each event has different rules. Braemar is a standing, no foot movement throw with a heavier weight. If you have a good standing throw, just prepare to throw heavier, odder shapes. Open stone is more shot put like with a lighter stone and the event allows movement so you’ll see every variant of shot put technique. Ground conditions tend to be a deciding factor in which technique you will use.
@@georgedj4937 - It occurs to me you might be asking about strength and speed. In that case, the answer is yes. Skill? Similar dynamics. But, I get beat on a fast, smooth concrete circle by people I can outperform on a nasty old rutted trig tossing a chunk of rubble.
@@javarilla thanks a lot, i will get more info soon, rock weigh 16 pound, and we throw on grass, so i might be able to use glide technique
