Personally keep the dining room for dinners and breakfast as it’s near the kitchen. Use the breakfast room for may be a small library and sitting area for guests. Well done for such an easy to follow video with plans so you can understand the whereabouts. Good luck to you all and looking forward to seeing more videos. 🍀

Keeping a ground floor bedroom for guests that are a little less able would be a good idea. If there's sufficient space for it on the ground floor.

Hello, you have the room, I suggest that you have at least 2 sitting rooms, one furnished more as a cosy winter sitting room and library, the other (probably the salon) more open and possibly larger as a summer sitting room. You will find that this would give more useability over the seasons, and flexibility when more than one set of guests.
The chateau is in very much better condition than most start with, and looks lovely.🇦🇺

  • @LordBurberryGB

Personally, I would not waste two rooms for eating. I would use the other room as a library or "quiet room" for reading that could also be used as an entertainment room with a piano and use one room on the ground floor for wheelchair access if possible. Also, for your washroom you might use a larger room as you will need space for two washing machines and two tumblers a large table / island to fold laundry, some space to hang things and also a large mangle iron for speedy ironing.
Also, a wireless vlogging microphone with a "fury hat" against wind (when outside) would be great. Rode have a good selection, most vloggers use !

I think the heavy paper on the wall is blank-stocking; it levels uneven wall texture and is used as an underlayment for wallpaper when that condition is present. I would use one large room for eating; possibly the east-facing room. Furnish with 36-to-42" round tables and 2 or 3 sideboards for chafing dishes so guests can help themselves. I would also consider using it for breakfast and dinner and using one of the other rooms as a library/games room. One of the best things to do is to tour other chateaus that have been transformed for the same purpose to get ideas and to think about what you would like. I love your chateau and property and you're really putting in the work. Bravo!

There's no need for 2eating areas. The dining room will be enough, plus it would be such a hassle to clear out and rearrange every day. Keep it as a salon and the other room you where asking about could also be a reception space for those who would like some quieter place to read a book perhaps😀

Wow what beautiful condition your chateau is in. Love the wide passage, large airy, light rooms, and floors are lovely. The most important thing in renovating a property, is attention to detail which to me means make any changes, add ons ext. blend in to look as though they were original to the building. Best wishes to you all and thanks for sharing. Yvonne from Australia

Great tour of the place. I agree with other commentators to only have one dining room instead of two for ease of clean up. Also to keep a downstairs guest bedroom for those in need of wheelchair access. It could double as a bridal changing room for when you start wedding events. I would double or even triple up on the washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility room. ( There will be alot of linen to be laundered.) Someone else commented that a communal bar area in one of the rooms would be good idea, it would have a USP. Especially if it opened out onto a terrace. Good luck.

I think having the salon double as a breakfast room sounds like a lot of work. The dining room should be where all meals are served. Definitely think one of the rooms should serve as a library. Every chateau needs one. In the video the stained glass doesn’t look real. When you get to having them restored, a more detailed video would be appreciated.

One very cool idea for the room you are using as your sitting room with the L shaped sofa....IF it is to be a communal lounge area....what if ? it were a bar / pub / nightclub kind of vibe....and picking from a particular era would be fun. 1920's speakeasy .... a jazz club ..... a NY nightspot ?? so many kinds of themes. You could have era music gently in the background with refreshments available - perhaps a TV and games ..... other props ??

Lovely rooms. Fireplaces are gorgeous especially the kitchen one. I'd agree with other comments and have just one room near the kitchen for all dinning and keeping the other large room for a more casual lounge sort of room. Also with the smaller rooms you weren't sure what to do with maybe library, or maybe a smaller lounge room. Somewhere a couple/small group could go for more privacy. Could also be a good space for a games room. Lastly a turret bathroom will look stunning. Best of all you don't have to divide the room up to fit in the ensuite.

The room next to the main dining salon would make a great bar/cocktail area for guests to gather before and after dinner. The room next to that would be a great billiards room also for guest to gather before and after dinner. I agree with one of the comments below, do not use two large rooms for dining. A library/living room for guest to just hang out perhaps with a grand piano is much more useful. Looking forward to seeing your progressions.

Lovely chateau! You may regret asking our opinions, haha! I have a couple of ideas you can consider or ignore: The turret area of Jake and Danielle's current bedroom could be a dressing room with a table over the radiator below the window; the hallway outside that room could have a door across it just past the external hallway doors, so the WC can be the ensuite for that bedroom (this would also save you the challenge of adding plumbing to the turret, and also make the hallway less lengthy looking). Likewise Graham's room could be a suite since it has a doorway to the lounge already (becoming part of the suite); then I would consider another wall across that hallway section so that the outside deck or stairs (?) would be part of the suite. You would need to add a WC for that however... The salon is gorgeous, and maybe you could serve breakfast in the dining room with the option of guests taking theirs to the salon where you could have just a few round tables. The tables could later be used for games, and some library shelves in there would be great too. It would be nice if salon furniture could easily be moved to the edges in the event of wanting an open space for dancing or other gatherings. I'm sure you will all figure out what works best for you, and we will love it anyway!

Love this video! The floorplan made it so easy to follow! I agree with the other commenter that suggested keeping all the food service in the dining room! So convenient for the kitchen, and seems a shame to waste that big beautiful salon space on a function that would only be used for a very short period each day (and is duplicated elsewhere). Or, if you really want separate areas, turn one of the smaller rooms into a cozy breakfast area. If you haven't already, I suggest taking a look at the chateau tour from Anna and Phillip at "How to Renovate a Chateau" to see how they have their breakfast area and salon set up!

Just came across your vlog. Love the spacious rooms on the ground and first floor. Was wondering if you have no grand hall or large foyer at the front, main entrance? The windows are lovely with the light streaming in. I watch many vlogs and so see many buy beautiful gold ,tall mirrors for above their many fireplaces. Also ,many buy chandeliers for all their ground floor rooms and even smaller ones in the bedrooms. There seem to be certain brocantes(thrift type home accessories shops) that carry these luxury items for reasonable prices. Also they find chandeliers online. Some go as far as to put beautiful “crowns” above windows, and beds, with drapes hanging behind the beds . Or sweeping window drapes to each side with beautiful gold leafed tie backs. Something I’ve seen a couple of chateau owners do, is redecorate their ensuites sympathetic to the Victorian era. Using beautiful, chintz vanity sinks and even the toilets with the tank towards the ceiling. Victorian claw foot tubs can be luxurious for a honeymoon couples. And maybe a rainfall shower with old style tiles. I realize the new style, all glass showers and square sinks on old dresser tops, are easy to clean. But if you’re going to be luxurious, then give your guests something really special. I have a brand new home, not built for me or my tastes, and my bathroom is exactly what a lot of chateau owners put in. Tiled bathroom with glass doored shower. So you might want to go the extra mile, and euro, and create something sumptuous. At least a few ensuites.
Because of all the light filled rooms, consider using darker paints and/or wallpapers. Conference type rooms, beautiful, cozy libraries, media rooms, I guess you have to decide your main focus, at the business end of things. I’ve seen owners use spaces for music events, yoga retreats, wine tasting events, larger ,public music concerts, foodie weekends. I have no idea where your nearest town is, always important if you want to host some of these for the locals. Just a few ideas to get you thinking about purposeful rooms and spaces.
Beautiful chateau and hope you find your niche!

Suggest a covered terrace for the dining room. A way to increase numbers especially if open to the public. Existing French doors cry out for a terrace! Lol

Is there a place in the bathroom for toiletries or this bag- counter space? Walls seem dark in the staircase. What about having separate rooms for breakfast and dinner or cocktails already set up.

You did such a great job of the tour. Very easy to follow. Of course I have no idea about how good your internet is there, but you might consider a library/business office for guests in one of the smaller rooms and perhaps a workout room? Like many of the others, I think leaving the salon as a salon would be lovely. It would be wonderful to have a baby grand on one end. All just thoughts. I think mo ,tater what you choose, it will be the right thing for you. All the best!

Very nice.. Maybe you can do both a breakfast and dinner room? and then a combi for the breakfast, so maybe drink coffee during the day and read a newspaper or a book or something. So for it to be a little bit of a quiet room. And then in the living room some boardgames and such so kids can play there with their parents and such? Good luck with figuring that out.. I wonder which floor we are going to see next time.. greetings xxx Juliette

Some chateaus have a grand salon and a smaller salons. Yes, good sized chandeliers for the bigger rooms, and larger scale ,gilt mirrors above the fireplaces would add elegance. Check out local brocantes and go online for good deals.

You need a lapel mic you come and go as you move about ,the place is in very good order and your three storey stables would easily convert to apartments by lowering ground floor ceiling heights to bring first floor to legal heights attics fine, any rotted /split broken roof timbers need replacing \strenghtening now.

Of the two rooms nearest the dining room maybe one room for a library/games room and the other for a tv/sitting/cocktail room. Please don't serve breakfast in the salon, you have a dining room.

I would like to see a library in one of the rooms. I've watched a lot of chateau renovation shows and it always irks me that the kitchens and bathrooms are fitted with contemporary materials from whatever is available at the local brico. Are there any artisans in the local area making bespoke tiles in traditional French designs? What about wood carvers?
