Give your mom some fresh fish, small cubes of any meat. some vegetables and fruits, Eat everything in moderation. Even those fruits have sugars so again in moderation. Not too much salt and not too much fried foods with vegetable oils. If there is olive oil its good ,, in salad with cruciferous vegetables and avocados.

And I never heard a diabetic patient got his her diabetes from eating too much sweet fruits (correct me if there's already a Case like that)... But normally diabetes came from sweets, candies or desserts, too much Rice and salty food....
