      I use black gaffer tape for this all the time. It does the job, and comes off extremely easily, as that’s how it’s designed.

    You can find LED greyout/blocking stickers on Amazon or Walmart. Pre-cut circles and non cut sheets you can trim to size. If the light is still too bright, just double up the sticker since it's designed to dim the LED. Hope this helps.

      The conway in this video has a "white noise" more irritating than most. I think is is due to the small orifice area from which the filtered air emerges. I am hoping the noise of the 5500-2 is more pleasant.

    Dude! In your other review, someone commented that the bright blue light on the Coway can be turned off by holding the ION button down for 3 seconds. You need to read your comments because you are telling folks the wrong information! It is SO bright that I can't sleep. I've been putting a washcloth over the blue light to solve the problem. The small green lights are no big deal. But your review helped me because the comment had me going into the bedroom and tested the ION button. Woo hoo! The blue light is out!!.. I followed you Amazon link and saw that is the exact model that I have. This is a game changer. I love this model and no longer suffer from allergies when I try to sleep. Just sayin'...

  • @Nilsosmar
    @Nilsosmar Před 4 lety +4

    I created a non-sticky "flap" made out of black gaffer's tape. The flap is about 6" x 8". Both sides of the flap are black tape; the sticky sides of the tape are pressed together so it won't stick to the air purifier or anything else. It's just a piece of very flexible black "plastic." To attach it to the purifier, I left a (very) thin sticky strip along one edge. It's easily removed and because it's gaffer's tape, it doesn't leave a sticky residue.
    The flap hangs over all of the bright lights on my Winix 5500-2, totally blocking them. My bedroom is totally dark, like I want it. The flap is the same black color as the Winix so it's not even visible to the eye when it's attached.

  • @gj9736
    @gj9736 Před 3 lety +3

    The LED lights on the Winix were bothering us at night in our bedroom since we do not run the unit in night mode, but on fan speed 2. We solved the problem with the LED lights by making a cover out of heavy duty aluminum foil for the face, sort of like a cap, which works beautifully since you can mold foil very easily unto the face of the unit and it actually stays on. I put it on when we go to bed and remove it after we get up and put it in the dresser drawer until the next time, so there is need to redo the cover every night, saving you from using up your foil. It may not exactly look very pretty, but who looks at the Winix at night while sleeping and it serves its purpose, that’s all we wanted. Electrical tape would leave a sticky residue on the face of the Winix.

    Levoit purifiers are great! I mean sure, THAT Levoit (PUR131) is a bad choice, but the Core 300 (150 CFM, $90), 400s (260 CFM, $195) and the LV134 (312 CFM, $260) are all great purifiers, for reasonable prices, and as you mentioned, you can turn off all the lights (and run the purifier at any fan speed). They're also nice looking, energy efficient, quiet and their replacement filters are reasonably-priced. Most Levoits have 360-degree air flow, whereas the two you recommend only take in air from one direction. I have a Winix and it's great, but I would never buy a Coway Mighty based on the disconcerting reviews.

    Really important that no one seems to mention is placement within the room. Also, in reality, you are not really cleaning a whole room, depending on size. you should move the unit around the room.. I have wok cooked 10 feet from my Winix,(C 545), only to not see the indicator light change to yellow or red. It is pretty simple, right? These rely on the air getting to them in various ways. drafts within the room or by the circulation fan within the unit moving air. Either method is not very efficient for "cleaning" the air. Ultimately for filtering air in a room you are going to have more than one purifier and set them at different levels (height). The notion of cleaning your whole living room/family room/ kitchen with one unit is a complete joke. Unless you manually move the unit around...

      It definitely does make a difference but the problem is that it generates ozone (as it ionizes air). Thankfully, this feature can easily be turned off and kept off which is what we recommend for most applications.

      Consumer Analysis The blue light turns off me in a dark room at least when set to automatic. I haven’t tried it with manual settings. There is a delay of about a minute before it reacts to the lighting change.

      @@webcomment8895 None of these style Winix units turn off the lights when set on manual mode. Only in automatic but then the unit is less effective.

    i like following your reviews but you really never recommend a good air purifier, instead always presenting a problem...can you please just present a product that is perhaps 70% effective (cost, performance & aesthetics-wise)? we rely on these reviews for guidance not more confussion...thanks

    Let's face it none of these units hits the mark. You trashed Honeywell. Winix is sinfully ugly. Coway customer support? If I voted with my $ l would support Levoit, but i don't want a round purifier. Also you do not adequately address ozone emissions. Why an air purifier would produce smog? I am tired of the Internet BS. - it is at a Safe level, in a closed room 24/7 ???. None of the companies with ionizer crap will tell you the ozone emmissions with the feature turned off. Levoit and Honeywell don't use gimmicks, the Winix and Coway do. If you want to do a service test the Winix and Coway for Ozone emmissions with the Ionizer/Plasma turned off, so we know if they are definetively disablled. And for the folks who say ozone is no big deal, tell that to a lung cancer, or copd patient who wants a purifier on all the time. Tired of the misleading information, and by the way, seriously are you on a Winix payroll or are you are purely objective?

    Seriously, it would be great if you reduced the repetition and wordiness, and shorten the constant and length.... not to mention to get some lightness, some intonation....otherwise helpful, just a bit painful for these reasons

      For what it’s worth, I find your content extremely helpful and to the point. It is clear you have tried these units and have a level of expertise that surpasses other reviewers, who seem to just be reading spec sheets. Perhaps there is something to be gained by what the other commenter suggested to make your videos more enjoyable for viewers with higher expectations (this is not a bad thing), but when I watch your videos, your intonation or video length do not come to mind or negatively impact my viewing experience.
      I think there is good reason to always be improving, but I wanted to comment a little grateful recognition to balance out the constructive criticism. You are providing a fantastic service as is. Cheers
