In this video we try to find the best air purifier for smoke. More specifically, we're most concerned with finding the best air purifier for wildfire smoke (although much of the discussion also applies to cigarette smoke). The discussion involves describing the characteristics of smoke (that it consists of both particles and gases) and how those characteristics apply to filter choice (HEPA vs carbon) and eventually specific model options.

Hey I'm looking to get the Winix 5500-2 but in Canada not many sellers. They are selling the 6300-2 model. But I was curious if this would be good for burning fumes (I burn leather and like nylon-webbing belt material) and work with barge contact cement. I use a respiratory mask with an organic filter when working with these but would also like to have an air purifier to dissipate the smell. Also would use it for dust in my room (which from your review winix 5500-2 is good for this)

So I know you said in the comments before that the molekule doesn't have a high enough CFM for you to really recommend it but I would really really really ask that you please do a review of it anyway... So many people would find that useful. As of right now there is only Wirecutter which did their test which was rather limited and which molekule vehemently argues against. and then there are CZcamsrs who promote the product without scientifically testing it. So the jury is really out in terms of does the molekule work or not... And because you are such a good reviewer and so thorough it would be extremely interesting to get your take. What do you think? Could you do it? I'm sure it would be a very popular video. Thanks

This is helpful. I’d like to get the Austin Healthmate after watching this but I’m wondering if I can get away with the junior for a room only 300-400 sq feet. I don’t think the bedroom model comes in Jr size but wondering if it’s worth it to get cause it covers everything? Is the cfm not as good in the Jr vs the standard?

Question.. I live in an old home that doesn’t have a ducts to exhaust kitchen pollutants and I don’t have an option of installing ducts. I’m thinking of using an air purifier as an alternative. For this particular case, do you think I can get away with Winix or do should I pay more for the Austin Air?
Thanks! Love the video and channel

Get a rangehood that vents to atmosphere rather than a ducted one. That should be your first priority to target the issue at the source. Not sure if you could duct it out to the window, if not any rangehood would be better than nothing. Alternatively install a non ducted exhaust fan that vents to the attic (they’re the only ones that exist in Australia - I don’t know about the US)

@@aaronnanos8789 Hey as a former college student, I recommend finding a friend that lives off campus so you don't have to deal with RA's with inflated egos. If you do wish to smoke in your dorm, definitely get a smoke buddy xl and a mouthpeace. Depending on your dorm set up, if you have a fire alarm in your room, you can take a plastic bag, and put a carbon filter in it, then put a hanger hold the plastic bag and carbon filter over the fire alarm. I got thru 2-3 years with ra's and the dean with this. Also if you ever get caught by the Ra dont be intimidated, depending on how your schools handles smoking you can claim is was just vaping and get away with it. Regarding filter, Im doing research right now for the most efficient for cyphs for 3-5 people in a dorm sized room. So ill update you guys on my choice for mj smoke. Best of luck, guys, and remember: always get your work done first, then smoke. Create free time by getting your stuff done early. Be 2-3 weeks ahead of your class and be friendly with your professors.
