Modern comedians (some not all) TAKE NOTE! : Mr Winters does not use ONE swear-word. He does not substitute good humour with shock language; he doesn't cover poor material with repeated f-words......That's why we are still watching and loving him. One of the greatest.
You can see the influence this great man had on Robin Williams, a legend in his own right. I think it is no coincidence that Mr. Williams took his own life exactly 16 months after Mr. Winters passed away. Two men with psychiatric issues that covered their pain to help others forget theirs. And 13 months later, my Dad took his own, who was of similar character and a legend to his family and friends. May all 3 rest finally in peace.
I don't think John winters ever really realized how great he really was it truly was our great luck to partake of y
This comedic genius love him❤❤😂😂
Don't know if anyone has answered your question...but I just watched it - and just rolling with laughter all the way through - and the year given at the end of the credits is 2000...what a Treasure Jonathan was, and still is in 2023...and will be for all time...also loved seeing Robin, miss him too, I wish he and Jonathan were here together doing 'new' material for us to laugh at...but at least we can all still treasure all of what they left behind for us ...Rest in Laughter, Gentlemen...and Thank You!!🤣🤣🤣♥♥♥
Maybe the single funniest moment ever when he goes into Bing Crosby describing a golf shot and then starts singing HILARIOUS. We love Jonathan Winters.
Genius as a man, husband, father and unmatched as a comedian. Always brought joy and laughter to my heart ♥
As a child I was very familiar with Jonathan Winters comedy but only a few years ago while watching old episodes of the Tonight Show did I learn how much of an influence he had on the comedic style of Robin Williams. I was nearly fourteen when Mork & Mindy was first broadcast and Robin Williams was like no other performer I had ever seen. It really seemed as if he were from another universe. For a long time I thought Williams was a genius without peer but now I realize just how much Winters inspired him and just how great Winters was as a truly original talent.
Just can't believe how good he is. So sad he's gone .
I'm 69. How many of my generation and some there after, not just comedians, had their humor shaped by Jonathan? What a gift he was to so many of us!
I'm 64 and you can count me in. We lived through the entertainment
revolution! I don't know if we'll ever see such talents again.
I'm with you on that. I'm almost 57 and think the best comedians were during my parent's generation. Don't hear much these days that are as funny as Jonathan Winters.
I will be 70 this week and my parents would let us stay up late to watch Jonathan Winters. We would laugh so much it was hard to go to sleep. Watching Johnny was a treat.
I loved Jonathan Winters and when he went on Mork & Mindy.....it proved to me that he was the father of Robin Williams....lol He could've been . I'm 78 and I can say that there never was and never will be another Jonathan Winters except for Robin Williams , ever again......pure magic...love them both !
No question: ONE of a kind. Would have liked to see into that mind, a bit.
“Did you ever undress in front of a dog?” Best opening line in the world.
I'm 42 and Johnathan Winters is a comedy legend. I love watching him Ad-lib and do voices and look out when he appeared on Johnny Carson with or without Robin Williams so hilarious. It's sad to think we no longer have legends like this anymore. Thank you for entertaining us thru the years RIP.
Jonathan the Giant, the laughing face of America, a wonderful imagination, no one will ever be like him, rest in peace, a great comedian, no doubt about that
What a gem of a documentary. Jonathon Winters lived a fascinating life and had a fascinating mind.
Winters humor was genius and did not include cussing, putting another person down, bully or ugly nature. He shared the wit of life and communicated humor in a visual way so all could understand. Love him and miss him
❤❤
Jesus Christ, God Damn It! What the fuck is wrong with words. Shit they are only words. Ass, Cock, are animals but you would say different, correct. Quit being a prude. He was funny simply put. George Carlin used many curse words. But his comedy was different, and funny also. Simply put. No labels needed. ❤😂
I loved this man. One day I saw him in the grocery store having just seen his movie "It's a mad mad mad mad World". I mentioned this to him, and he quipped "I spent that money a LONG time ago". He was truly funny
That Jonathan Winters special was so satisfying. He was my favorite comedian during my childhood. A remarkable creative genius imo.
The greatest compliment paid to him as person was by his family. A legend who put his family first. His wife Eileen was a rare jewel. She always believed in him and could keep up with his wit.
Agree totally
she got to laugh more than all of us,my god living with a comedy genius, what a ride she had, laughter is the ultimate
@@strattuner oh yes!

as a couple
Entertainment at it's best
When I was a young boy in school I would do darndest to imitate him at recess. I did what I think he liked and that was simply make them smile. Now at 60 I still attempt to make folks smile it is a contagious thing.
Thanks Johnnie Winters 😂
Their'll never be another like Jonathon Winters. The funniest man ever. By the way, his wife was beautiful as is his daughter as well. May God rest his soul along with Robin Williams the man who came closest to Jonathon. They were great together and thank God we got to see it. 🙏🏼😊❤️
The thing that sealed Jonathon Winters' success, in my view, was his extraordinary face, that broad pallate of clearly changable expression.
He had the imp child in his face.
One of the half dozen or so true comic geniuses of all-time.
The best!
Rickles, Williams, Winters, Dangerfield, King, and Rivers?
@@dovbarleib3256 No, I'm thinking along the lines of Benny, Groucho, Sellers, Carlin for sure.
@@nobodyaskedbut Yeah, I will exchange Jack Benny for Joan Rivers. I am not a Groucho or Carlin fan though. To include one woman, add Gracie Allen.
Rivers was funnier than anyone... except dudes
He walked among us...A MASTER
That was special.
Just like him so kind In a mad world, it's no wonder that we all don't lose our minds!
Truly a national treasure
I love Jonathon Winters. A true comic genius. One of the all-time comedy GREATS.
I had the pleasure of working in his home in the early 80's. He signed a glossy for me and began to entertain right there in his den as only he could. I was mesmerized for about twenty minutes until his wife put an end to it and sent me on my way. Delightful man whose genius can never be matched. Thank you, Mr. Winters! Rest well, Marine. Semper Fidelis.
What a great memory, your lucky, he was a great comedian on soo many levels
Wow, that must've been like an out of body experience. Thanks for sharing.
~Enjoyed this ever so much....Johnathon always made me laugh...a real laugh. Loved him on Tonight Show with Johnny Carson laughing his head off at this talented man.
At 16:03 my very young sons fell out all over the living room! This was during a pledge drive for our local PBS TV station, so I donated immediately to get the VHS tape as a gift! My mom was tickled, because I'd fallen out on the floor during Jonathan Winters' performances years before. His comedy was timeless! I miss him and Robin Williams so much! Such comic genius!
A Great Comedian that brought laughs to MILLIONS ‼️👍God Bless him wherever he is currently stationed ‼️Semper Fi Marine‼️😊🇺🇲
I think of my mother. She always loved his humor. I truly miss the old days.
We all mis you Jonathan. God Bless!!!!!!
Ther will NEVER be another like Johnny Winters!!! True GENIOUS!!!
The best! What a beautiful wife he had.
Fantastic show I'm over 70 and didn't know he could do so much he was indeed an exceptional comedian!
Folks don’t realize that nobody, nobody was doing those sound effects before him. I appreciate originality. He was an innovator.
I watched til the end. It was made in 2000, he passed away in 2013. Thanks for posting.
I have in my list only three comedians that were ahead of their times and true geniuses. Groucho Marx, Jonathon Winters and Robin Williams. Man I miss them!
I miss this man so very much.
May you be laughing as much you made us laugh…and may you be at peace Jonathan.
God bless you…❤
When I was a graduate in college, I wanted to be a comedian until one night in North Beach ,San Francisco I saw Johnathon Winters and came to the realization that I could “never” be that spontaneously funny or talented. It takes a unique ability to hold a mirror up to our human existence and make us laugh at ourselves…for me that is salvation.
Johnny was a wonderful and sweet man. Bipolar before the disease was really understood, yet he faced it without complaint. I knew him slightly and he was truly one of a kind.
“without complaint” because his generation rarely complained.
I met him when I was working at the Lobero Theater just before I graduated from high school. What an amazing guy!
I love him! His facial expressions and sound effects were unmatched.
He is a very talented guy and funny as well. It's nice to see his kids and wife talk about him. In his retirement he can still be funny, and have fun with people. Love you Jonathan.
Robin Williams was one of a kind, granted.
Could he have been one of a kind, without Jonathan Winters?
@@lindabranigan2460 It would have been different.
I'm about to deep dive into the world of Jonathan for the first time thanks to CZcams algorithm, can't wait for the comedic gems that are to come
He took me with his humor and into all his creative channels as well as shared his life story in chapters, even the painful periods. He had a hat for every mood.
What a gifted man.
Thank you so much for this wonderful documentary blessings to the winter family
No question about it ... Incredibly talented simply the greatest at improvisation ever.
The greatest comedian of all time clean and no cursing. The best period!!!
👍
I'm 72 and I admit I forgot how very funny He was. PS, And besides that His humor was goodnatured.

👍
One of a kind. A master of verbal pictures. Always a little skewed. The stick routine with Jack Paar is a masterpiece.
As a Daytonian, I can say our town is known to produce many geniuses. Wright bros., Charles Kettering, and on and on. Yet for me ,Jonathan made me laugh. And that's a true gift to the world.
@@higgsmerino3925 sadly evil exists in every town. I choose not to glorify evil as you do. I prefer to think about the positive impacts that are made on people's lives. And as for mr,Jonathan winters he made me laugh and that's the kind of people I will choose to think about. Not evil. Myself I chose the light, not the darkness.
Martin Sheen, Erma Bombeck. Agnes Moorehead was from New Concord, OH, but is buried in Dayton because her parents were.
"Just ask for me. I'm just off the main highway....WAY off the main highway." I can't stop laughing at that line!! - Classic, Jonathan!!
thank you jonathan, on this day of many troubles, you made me laugh.
Unfortunately, he was before my time, but I've been watching old clips of him with Johnny Carson where Jonathan has him nearly falling out of his chair with laughter. He was true a comic genius. No profanity or vulgarity or oversexualized content! The greatest compliment paid to him as a comedian were from icons like Johnny and Robin Williams who hailed him as the best and funniest. Robin Williams, whom I believe to be the greatest comedian of his time, openly revered Jonathan as we see in this documentary. It's a bit sad that characters like them are gone.
Imho, Tim Conway was another comedic gem. You might check out old clips of his, especially on the Carol Burnett show. Comedy gold!
Btw, if you've never seen Tim Conway's elephant story, you should. Make sure you get the full clip, with his description of the elephants, including the monkey and the tutu. It's a must see! Enjoy!!!
@@NonniMcMac thx for the tip 👊
Could not Agree More
One way to think about it is that Jonathan Winters gave Robin Williams permission to reach his full potential with his brand of humor. Robin could see that it was not only OK but great to be himself... and let other people in on who he was. Seeing Jonathan in his early TV appearances when I was a little boy I was first drawn to that big cheesy smile he had. He was truly a character. You never quite knew what you were going to get from one appearance to the next. Born in 1952, I feel fortunate that he helped shape my sense of humor and appreciation for so many things I think are funny. Because of him, I can go anywhere, do some people watching... and entertain myself to no end... without being mean-spirited about any of it.
He was a master of improv. The one where he takes a piece of material and makes an entire routine out of it is a classic. He could laugh at himself and turn a room full of famous people into little children with overwhelming laughter.
Very few videos on CZcams are of him versus him performing. He was always on. I’m grateful for something that lets you into who he was and not just a performance.
Wow. Wonderful film! What a great guy such a genius, and such a wonderful man and a lovely family especially his wife!
He was a tremendous serious actor too. His depiction of a character in an early Twilight Zone episode was great. . So original and with no pretense.
THANK YOU so much for posting this! I discovered Johnny about a year ago and he is absolutely one of the best artists and comics I've ever seen. From his characters to his sound effects (esp with those old cameras and mics) to his prose and even his paintings (which I love to death). I'm a huge fan of Robin and I can see from the early footage where Robin actually derived some of his impressions and improv styles from. It's a lot like looking at Stevie Ray Vaughn's guitar style and finding out that it was much borrowed from Albert King. There's nothing wrong with that, progressing artistic styles is the nature of being an artist. His daughter saying "I always wondered why there were long black granny clothes in his closet" makes me go into Winters land like a wildfire of laughter.
This man made my Father laugh so much 😂 that he named me after him.
Rip 🕊️ to him & my father Amado, a namesake that means Loved 💙
One of the greatest comedian of all time. We Miss You Jonathan and I'm so glad he did it's a mad mad mad world which is a Classic. Wish we had another Jonathan Winters but that can't happen, one of a kind.
I respect him very much. Such great talent
Having watched him on WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio, where he was relegated mainly to doing commercials at that early stage of his career, I saw his meteoric rise and am still amazed at his genius. As Jack Paar said of him, “He is unique. There is no other Johnny Winters.”
Sound effects, rubber face, stage presence, space work, timing, impersonation, improvisation... so multitalented
i was dining in a patio restaurant in Ojai one night when I saw Jonathon Winters across the street.
Jonathon started playing hide and seek using a telephone pole. I think he had visited the Art Center on Montgomery, which makes sense. It was just a couple of minutes but very enjoyable. His appearances at the Thousand Oaks City Council meetings during that time were entertaining for all except those who needed to conduct the business of the City but no one will ever forget those meetings or him.
It gives me goosebumps allllll over my body. Favorite line of his.
You know what? I still use that "allll over my bawwdy"! His imitation of Bing Crosby is the best I've ever heard. What a jewel Jonathan is for us to see again and again. Trust me!!
Truly an amazing talent and a gentle man. As much as I loved Robin Williams, both as a comedian and a person, it occurred to me that Jonathan Winters had an "off" switch and could come back to reality... but Robin seemed to be set to "on" whenever in public. Jonathan entertained through his craft whilst aging gracefully, where as Robin was a bright meteor that just seemed to tragically burn out way too soon. 😌 The world is a little less funnier without them. May they both rest in peace.
I know I am in the minority but I never thought Robin Williams was funny. Jonathan Winters however I thought was an enormous talent.
@@tomkelly4336 It`s so wonderful to have variety in the arts. You know what you like and I admire that. Stay well and exercise those lungs with laughter. Regards: Tony, Sydney, Australia.

@@tomkelly4336 I agree, I never could stand Williams. Jonathan Winters was simply in another league.
We all come here to be who we truly are... not two alike. I met Robin once and he was quite a quiet and high man. The Autopsy Dr. had an episode on Robin which explains his later days. He was suffering from some conditions which are explained. Both these men were a cut above.
I miss him so much!❤
What a terrific salute to one of America's most innovative an entertraining comedians. He was the same age as my father and hailed from the Greatest Generation. I am ever so grateful that he could overcome the demons that sidelined him. Whenever I need a good laugh I head to CZcams and replay one of his videos. I hope that wherever he is now he realizes what a great impact he had and continues to have on his fans.
Robin Williams demons? I never heard Jonathon Winters having mental etc. problems.?
And that was true talent and entertainment……WE MISS YOU MR WINTERS……they don’t make them like you any more.
Outstanding special. I watched Jonathan as a kid and to see how well rounded he was (careful now) says so much about him (insightful and living his values).
Comic genius, we are blessed to have just one every generation. Robin Williams graced the Baby Boomers, still waiting for the next, thank you both for many heartfelt laughs.
A great comedian of all time. A funny man that you never knew what he would say next. So much missed.
God love him. J. Winters has brought so much laughter to thousands. I'm 82 years old and I still watch him whenever I get a chance, he had a wonderful gift and he shared it with us. Thank you
Absolutely the Best and his imagination was just unlimited and amazingly talented. Love his performances and so gifted.
As somebody in one of the earlier comments said, Jonathan Winters was one of the half dozen comic geniuses of all time. His particular genius in my opinion was improv. He is the father of all improv comics. He was the first and with the exception of Robin Williams the best. Everyone that are fans of Jonathan and Robin if they haven’t already should watch the clip on CZcams where they appeared together on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
The clip in this video where Jack Parr hands Jonathan Winters a stick and just lets him go was classic.
Jonathan…you were hilarious, that we know.
But also, you knew the condition of those among us who are more sensitive.
That understanding, that sensitivity…for all you did, and we love you for it. We miss you for it.
God Bless you Jonathan. Thanks for the laughs, the love and the understanding. ❤
he made me laugh so much at times I would start to cry, one of the GREATEST, God Bless you Johnathan
I’ll always miss him!
There will never be two like them again on this earth!!!!!
Mr. Winters art is genius. Id love to own one of his pieces. His art belongs in the greatest museums in the world.
Just outstanding! We didn't see a lot of him in the UK. Our loss.
I think it's comparable to the way that Peter Cook passed most Americans by.
One-third of my childhood triumvarite of beloved Jonathans (along with Jonathan Harris and Jonathan Frid).RIP to all of them,it was a privilege to share the planet with you at the same time, thank you for all the laughter, the tears, and the memories. Some day some way I know I'll see you all again........
Marine. He must have had his platoon in tears.
I'm a Marine (86'-90') and I've always wondered about that. It would be great to hear from someone he served with.
Back when we had only three TV channels I was always beside myself when Jonathan Winters came on a show. That was the 70’s in my teen years. I would practically choke with laughter. Loved his humor.
I enjoyed every second of this documentary. He was a beautiful man in so many ways.
There’s a lot of so-called comedians that could’ve done themselves a favour by studying this brilliant human being. A quality of comedy Still so relevant today. .
a old and great friend, thank you , long story's,great times
Jonathon's mind always seemed to be on fast forward. He made me laugh my *ss off. No one has come close to his ability to improvise instantly with whatever was thrown at him. Really liked this video because we got to see the man behind the men. ( ooops sorry Maud) : ) RIP.
The way he putzes around in the bank. 2 things occurred to me - 1. Nobody would tolerate that kind of conduct in ANY bank - certainly not the "bank and trust company" I frequent. 2. How does he get away with that? Then, I suddenly GOT it - he probably OWNS the damn bank!!
THIS .MAN IS THE MOST TALENTED PERSON I HAVE EVER SEEN AND CAN. BE THE WHOLE SHOW ALL BY HIMSELF!!!!!
I was so lucky to have been a child of the 70s. There were still so many show biz legends around then, and Jonathan Winters was one of them. I always looked forward to seeing him. He was from another dimension!
mari? You are sensational! This is the best thing I ever saw re Jonathan Winters. I loved him since the 1950's...Johnny is a genius, a genius. Thanks! Best, w
Like Three dog night sang many years ago about there being a hell of a band in rock and roll heaven, you can almost imagine the silliness that's going on now. Mr. Winters, Robin Williams.......
Believe this was released as "The Unknown Jonathan Winters: On the Loose", September 5, 2000. Jonathan Winters was simply improv at its absolute BEST!
I was staying at the Maui Hyatt for a meeting when I visited the art gallery in the lower level of the hotel when I saw a painting by another famous comedian, Red Skelton. He was famous for being a great funny man and was, like Jonathan, a great painter. While Winters was a painter of Native Americans Skelton was a painter of Clowns. The painting I picked our was about 8x10 inches in size. I asked the price and was told $15,000.00. That was back in 1986.
At 42:50; "...and then he died instantly!" What a mind. What a talent.
The best ever in my opinion. Jonathan Winters and Don Rickles were the only comedians that wrote their own lines or improvised them. Each has his own style and Winters was the one that I liked because of his style. There will never be anyone else like Winters.
Winters was a Fat Rich Little. HACK! Rickles was the GOAT
When they were filming it's a mad mad world in Palos Verdes California I was in the 11th grade and driving home from high school we'd stop and watch the filming, Jonny winters and buster Keaton would come over a talked with us and they has us laughing like crazy
I remember many yrs ago watching JW on the Smothers Brothers he could take a object and make it into a humorous story, They gave him a toothbrush, he stared at it a few 2nds and made a story of it, and as usual it was a funny skit !
Oddly enough, my dad's favorite comedian back in the day, and I ended up working with him on a Tim Conway pilot that never aired. We broke for lunch and he sat with us, never breaking character after character. I literally fell out of my chair laughing. Still my favorite comedian. A true comedy genius.
I have his first name, I have grew up with him from 5yrs old until he passed away. Robin Williams got alot of talent from him. They both will be missed dearly.
