Charlie Watts was the "Heartbeat" of the Stones! A accomplished Jazz Drummer, after World Tours with the Stones, playing before Hundreds of Thousands of Fans in Stadiums and Arenas, he would play in tiny Nightclubs and Pubs for a handful of people because he lived the Music. He was quite shy and the band would take great delight in making him Blush during Band Introductions to the Audience. He Always received the Biggest Applause from the Crowd, night after night when I worked with them at Giant's Stadium. I was truly saddened to hear he had passed. The End of an Era

"the drummer" - The drummer is Charlie Watts - the English Gentleman who found himself in a rock and roll band for 50 years. Charlie was a clean-cut married man with children and a country estate where they raised horses. Charlie always thought Mick and Keith were over the top and happy to let them roll the band along while he kept to himself.

Steel Wheels was HUGE! We built and took down the staging at Giant's and Shae Stadiums and the last North American show in Atlantic City at the Convention Center. They had 3 complete steel scaffolding stage systems on the Tour, one that they would be playing on, one being built at the next Venue and one being transported. Just for lights, sound, scenery, catering, merchandising etc. they had over 100 tractor trailers! The stage was so high, that we were required to mount aircraft warning lights on the towers because they were in the Kennedy,LaGuardia and Newark airspace. Even with all the expenses they profited about $750million for the Tour. We used over 200 climbers to build and strike the stage. On "Bridges to Babylon" 10 years later, we only used 12 climbers and a crane!

@@billiam8554 It took a solid week of 16-18 hour days to erect all the steel.None of the Local Crews had anywhere near enough Skilled Climbers to build it by themselves. The Stones would usually Tech( first build and Technical Rehearsals) out West, in Las Vegas or Phoenix and some of the Local Union Stagehands would follow the show, city to city hoping to get work. The Road Crew from Up Front Steel who designed and supplied the staging would put in a good word for the Climbers, glad to have experienced help who knew the build. It's not that many Pro Climbers in the Business, we all get to know each other on big shows, like the Stones, Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, Grateful Dead, U2, and of course, the 94 and 99 Woodstock builds, which were each a solid 5 to 6 weeks of High Steel work.

Since i was 12 years old i,ve loved the Stones and i still do. Soon i,m 70. They have i kind of humour and distance to themselves at the same time as they are taking their music deadserious. I find that very attractive.

Amber, that huge smile made me cry tears of joy. I laughed at y'all laughing at Jagger. My buddy Cliff was Jagger's doorman in NY when this album came out. I had a chance to go see Micks house while he was gone but didn't make the trip. My buddy Chip and my buddy Skeeter (RIP) also know the Stones. Oprah once spilled a beer on Skeety at a Stones show in Chicago.

What's still amazes me I've been a rolling Stones fan since I'm 10 years old ,it was 1974, the first song I heard was hand of fate off the black and blue album and they've been relevant my entire life. I'm now 58 years old and they were ready together for 12 years before I discovered them completely. These dudes are grandfathers maybe even great-grandfathers and they're still rocking. I don't think you'll ever see in your lifetime another band that stays together for the most part for over 60 years. And mick can still sing. I've seen them live in concert in the 70s 80s 90s 2000s 2010s and 2020s. When I really think about it it blows my mind. To put it in perspective they started playing as a band professionally when JFK was president!! Simply amazing! Love your guys channel and Amber swaying to the groove that the stones layed down. I love it!!

Well, Mick did reign it in a bit for their early TV appearances on the Ed Sullivan show. For example, when they were set to perform 'Let's Spend the Night Together' on the show, they were asked to change the lyrics to "Let's spend the day together" to avoid the sexual connotations of spending the night together. Thus, the Rolling Stones got something like six appearances on the show.
When the Doors were invited, Jim Morrison was asked to change the lyrics of 'Light My Fire' to avoid the drug-use connotations of "Girl we couldn't get much higher." When that part of the song came up, Jim got right up in the camera and sang the unmodified lyrics instead.
The Doors were never invited back to the show.

Finally 😁 Charlie's first love was Jazz. This tune was recorded in a reggae style in 1977 and was suppose to go on the "Some Girls" album in 78.It was resurrected and redone into this for the Tattoo You album in 81.The most ironic quote ever.."I hope they don't think we're a rock'n'roll outfit"- Mick 1963.

There is a classic 60's period concert film called The TAMI/TNT Show. It's b&w and done for TV. Each act has about 3 songs and it's a loud of fun to watch. The Rolling Stones were the last act very early in their career, and they followed James Brown. The legend has it the Jagger stood backstage watching James Brown tear the dance floor up and he was scared about following him. That performance was one of the first times that Jagger really danced.
