  • Learn how to use Create Openings from Selection to automatically create openings in Complex Profile Siding to match your Windows. I also briefly talk about the Selections Palette. For more information and a complete list of changes, check out the accompanying blog post:

    Now that is a Clever Tech Tip🥇‼ I have done similar to the way you have done tiles as a wall skin for Bathrooms etc and I find it a pain to add the Doors & Windows into the extra 'Tile' skin. Now this method will work well 😬
    Also, what say you about having the Tile skin as part of a Wall Complex Profile. Plus it can be adjusted up or down as well with the additional parameters ✏
    AND, I still HIGHLY recommend CI TOOLS from New Zealand for all Roof & Wall Cladding 🎉💥 It is nothing short of sensational ▶
    All the openings, Doors, Windows, Skylights etc move with amendments and changes 🥇
    The parameters are highly advanced and they make your model bounce off the screen… like when you have 3D corrugated roof decking and all the flashings, ridge cappings, curved gutters etc applied with ONE CLICK after selecting your parameters is incredible‼

      Creating complicated complex profiles for walls that include siding and interior finish like tile is a bad idea. It'll result in breaking walls in weird locations to accommodate finishes. A stud wall should be continuous, not break at the bathroom or kitchen for tile. Keeping finish like tile and siding separate helps the model be built like the actual building.
      I hear so many people rave about the CI tools, and I've dabbled with them. But I like to keep my modeling techniques accessible to everyone and I don't like the idea of object based siding.

    Thanks for this amazing tip but how do make this siding as a skin for all walls and how can we make vertical sidings or steels sheets.

    • @Shoegnome
      @Shoegnome  Před rokem

      Do the same technique but use a Composite wall rather than a Complex Profile. Then use a Surface with the correct vertical pattern. You can use Align 3D texture to get the lines where you want. Alternatively, if the panels are big or there aren't too many verticals, you can use hidden beams and columns to create all the joints. I think I have a video on control joints that discusses this.

    Will the openings change position with your windows??

    • @Shoegnome
      @Shoegnome  Před 4 lety +1

      They are independent, so they will not move with the windows.You either need to move the openings along with the windows OR just delete them and recreate the openings the same automatic way when the window is in the new position. Either solution should be easy and fast.

    Back when I first saw the video I've tried it and it worked but at one point it stopped working for me and for the life of me I can't figure out why!

    • @Shoegnome
      @Shoegnome  Před 2 lety +1

      If the windows don't intersect the siding, it won't work. For trimless windows, I'll still turn on the casing but make it sit in front of the window to act as a thickened frame. Then this technique will work. Sorry for the slow response.

  • @chrisdvorak2197
    @chrisdvorak2197 Před 4 lety

    so I tried this with a window where the casing was turned off and the connect feature created no opening.

    • @Shoegnome
      @Shoegnome  Před 4 lety

      That's something I also discovered after recording this video. Without casing turned on, the window doesn't intersect with the siding wall and thus ARCHICAD doesn't think it needs to make an opening. The solution is to turn casing on, make the opening, then turn casing off. If you do this, make sure to have the casing no bigger than the window, otherwise you'll need manually shrink the opening. Not ideal, but it works.

      @@Shoegnome I still don't get an opening, even with all kinds of window sills and casings turned on.. This would be so handy! Especially if the opening followed the window if you moved it.

    • @JaredBanks
      @JaredBanks Před 3 lety

      @@canvea that's strange. If the element (window/door) intersects with the wall it should work without any issue.
