Fun Gun Reviews Presents: The Glock Model 27 40 S&W Sub Compact Pistol Review. I love baby Glocks! Thanks for watching~ Sootch00 Music: Pond 5 "Can't Catch Me Now"
I got my Glock 27 almost 10 years ago for my 21st birthday, with very few exceptions it goes with me everytime I leave the house!! Absolutely love that little gun.
I've been carrying a G27 as my everyday carry for years for many of the reasons you mentioned. It's never failed me and very easy to get used to handling. I also really like the larger magazines for backup.
I have carried a Gen 2 G27 for almost twenty years. My agency issued a G23 and the G27 was bought for back up and/or off duty carry. Never a hiccup or a bobble, reliable as sin and damned near as ugly. Easy to forgive any aesthetic shortcoming in exchange for power and reliability. Welcome to the G27 fan club.
Glock 23 and 27... own a few gen2 and gen3, never had a problem with 'em. A 23 has been my EDC since for ever. Shot IDPA, IPSC, what ever. Love the .40S&W. Never had a problem with recoil either.
5 years after Sootch made this video, it still rings true. 40 cal is a damned good round. My Glock 22, Gen 3 is my favorite pistola amigo. I do own a S&W Shield 9mm, but I prefer Glock over S&W. And, where Glock is concerned, I prefer Gen 3 over any other Gen. This ongoing debate between the 9 and 40 is ridiculous. It's all a matter of personal preference, and of course, shot placement.
i say always go with a 40 s&w model glock in whatever size you fancy. afterwards if you want a 9mm you can just get a 40-9 barrel and a few new mags and you basically have 2 guns. you can even get a .357 sig barrel and you don't even need different mags
Outstanding review. you always answer my questions, your clear, and to the point. all important subjects covered. Thanks for such a great job on all of your reviews.
yousef ahmed I own and carry a G27. It has a decent amount of recoil. I would recommend the G26 9mm to most people for concealed carry. For some reason I shoot 0.40cal guns well, so I stuck with 0.40cal. Best to shoot a G27 before buying one IMO.
Psyched to see this review. I was looking into the 27, and as usual, went to your page to find your thoughts, but nothing, no reviews!! Glad to see you've finally reviewed this particular gun. I did buy the gen 4 27 a few months ago, but still glad to see your thoughts on it after the fact. Love the gun and love your page Sootch, you're a wealth of information for someone like me who is still learning about guns and concealed carry methods. Knowledge is power!.....
Big fan of glocks. I really like the glock 27,40 caliber. I need something like this as a secondary pistol. Great video, appreciate you taken the time to do this video.
Don’t quote me on this, cause I’m not 100% sure… But I do believe the 26 and 27 are same exact gun, just different caliber. All the measurements and dimensions are the same, so you can take a 27 and make it a 9mm just by changing out the barrel. But like I say…I’m not positive about that…So DO check with the manufacturer first before doing anything stupid! 😂
Great video, as usual. I have the G19, 23, and 27. The G27 (gen 2) was my first Glock purchase, and CCW. I did start using the G23 mags (with spacer) in the 27. I love them all, however typically carry the 23, due to number of rounds and stopping power.
Great informative video. The visual comparisons where great. It really gives a novice like myself the information that I need to make the right decision. Nice work.
I've had one of these for a few years now, also got the 9mm conversion barrel for it. Great, reliable handgun and perfect for concealed carry. Haven't had any issues with it and I honestly love it!
Purchased mine new in 1997. Upgraded later with the LAW-17 internal laser system, diode mounted on the face of trigger guard, trijicon and other night sights (over time), and the Apex trigger kit = best upgrade ever. It has NEVER let me down after thousands of rounds. If someone can't handle the difference in the 26 & 27, you might as well just get a .380. The added benefits in slightly more muzzle flip is wort it. I can mag dump either of the two in pretty much the same time, and in the same groupings.
I own different brands of firearms. But for shear simplicity, reliability, and price, you cannot beat a Glock. I've purchased multiple over the years, and all have held up extremely well. My current, yet growing collection consists of the following: 17, 19, 20, 22, 23, 26, 27, 29SF, 30SF, 36, and .22 conversion. Living in, and purchased from CA, they are all Gen 3's.
This gun shoots sub-sonic loads with no problem. Helps with the recoil if that's an issue. Big fan of the spring over the spring. It just seems to function better than the old style.
I was going to trade my 27 for a 23 but couldnt let it go so I just got a 23. I like the way the 23 and 19 feel in my hand. The 26 and 27 are also great with the extended 1 rnd mag.
I love hearing unbiased information based on real life experience. I am a 2nd Amendment enthusiast, and Glock is what our local rural sheriffs carry, as well as a majority of law enforcement officers , as I understand it. Not that we have any guns, due to a boating accident, but our NRA instructor suggested the brand due to dependability, kind of like the Honda of the gun world. Thank you! Hope ya’ll still with us!
Just recently took some round files to a G27. A trigger guard undercut makes it much more ergonomic and comfortable as does Pearce PG-2733 pinky extensions with the top lip shaved off to stop pinching. Also, a threaded G23 barrel gives 100 more fps to Underwood 200gr Hard Cast. All that, plus a 9/16-24 compensator gives faster follow-up shots against lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my! Woods carry ready!
I love mine, thanks for your review scootch00. I basically have a G26 with my Lone Wolf drop in bbl. I will say that if anyone else has been thinking of getting one, keep in mine that it may very well need some fitting. Mine did and after smoothing out and slightly removing microns of material off here and there, my 9mm lone wolf bbl runs perfectly without a single hiccup. But i definitely will need some fitting.
Don't forget that you can use an aftermarket g33 (357 sig) barrel in it with the corresponding mags also. Been carrying my 27 for 4 years, every day and put about 400 rounds a month thru it between 40s&w and 9mm. I'm hard pressed to find a more modular, more versatile edc gun at any price. Especially for the size and weight. All around performer that I have no reservations trusting my life on!
Happy belated, and many returns! I don't have a .40 yet, oddly enough. I keep accumulating brass for it, and I have a "this full" line that will prompt the purchase of dies, projectiles, and of course... a gun. Almost certainly a Glock. Thanks for another great vid!
First: Happy Birthday ! Must've been a happy day when somebody thought enough about you to give you that for a gift.! Nice video, informative and with 'range time' to show your points, I like that. Thanks.
I have been carrying the G27 Gen 3 for about 3 years now with the +2 mag extension and the 15 round back up mag. I smoothed the trigger and find that it's very shoot-able with the original disconnect (3lb felt to light). I picked up a G22 Gen 4 not long ago (500 rounds), so far so good and the trigger feels much better right out the box than my 27 did. As others have said get the after market conversation barrel and mags and you have a 9mm for about $150-200 more.
Surprised you did not mention that the Glock 27 is a jack of all trades hand gun with the vast amount of aftermarket barrel conversion kits that are available. You can feasibly run 9mm , 357 sig, 22lr and of course 40 cal. with the glock 27. Always enjoy your videos, keep up the good work!!
Gen 3 G27, my favorite Glock. Love to pull that out of my pocket and nail a steel plate at 50 yards. Love to watch the look on people’s faces when I do. Good weapon.
Train Wreck I just picked up the same and love the possibilities with it but I’ll probably just keep it .40 as I have enough 9s and 357s. I’m happy it also accepts big magazines.
Ive had 7 low back operation's and I carry and love the model 27 when my back is hurting bad and I need something light.. When my back allows I have to admit I carry my true love, a Sig Sauer P320C in 357 Sig. I love sig's and collect them. Right now I have 4 sig's, but 3 are to heavy for me to carry everyday. 1911, P226 from Germany, P229 and a P320C
The G27 magazine is a marvel of physics. It looks significantly smaller than the standard G22 mag. It is the exact same height as a P365 9mm mag, with slightly more girth. The Sig is my Summer carry, but with more clothing options, I'll take a .40 any day of the week.
I carry the Glock 27 Gen 3 in a High Ride Custom Made Holster by Rusty Sherrick for my 27, the bottom of the holster rides even with the bottom edge of my gun belt and it stays totally out of sight, and its made from Horse Hide which is thinner than Cow Hide, been carrying it for 5 years now and its still like new, damn nice work Rusty. I have also put my Glock 23 Gen 4 barrel in my Glock 27 for that extra FPS and a little more punch from the 180gr Gold Dots and It all functions great together....Sweet Little Package.
I love my little 'pocket cannon'... Gen 3 G27! It is my EDC. It definitely is a bit snappy and has a bit of a twist to it with the recoil but I have no problems with it at all. Great review as always Sootch, thanks man. Stay safe God Bless ✌️🇺🇲
@@CA2ATrucker I put a stainless steel guide rod with a 20lb spring in my Glock22 gen 3 & now it feels like 9mm +P. I tried a 22lb spring at first but it ended up being too heavy, that's like for 357Sig or 10mm.
@@PerceptionVsReality333 I put the tungsten guide rod spring assembly that is 1 pound heavier in my 27. It seems to medigate the recoil a bit but gotta pay attention to what kind of ammo I 'feed' it... I've had a few failures to feed with heavier and less power projectiles. My carry ammo, Winchester Ranger LE T Series 185G, do just fine so that's ok with me. Stay safe God Bless ✌️🇺🇲
The first gun is the one I carry everyday. I love Glock and always have. I feel they've got the concealed carry market in the bag. Theres nothing that compares as far as daily carrying goes, IMO..
Thanks for the great info. Compared the gen 3 and gen 4, but went with gen 4, because of the comfort. I have small hands, so gen 4 with no back strap fits my hand better. Costs more, but don't skimp on your everyday concealed carry.
happy birthday Sootch I love your videos. Just bought a model 27 myself as my home defense weapon. one can always turn a model 27 into a 9mm with a lone wolf or other drop in barrel and the appropriate magazines
When I got my CA CCW around 2012, there was a huge shortage of CA approved sub-compacts. I bought my 27 pretty much because it was the only thing I could find in stock and had to have a serial number for my pending permit. I fell in love with it and even after adding my Shields 40, I still prefer the Glock in every respect.
I hear what he's saying as far as sticking to the Gen 3s. I was the same way until I came across a G29 in a Gen 4 and the price was too good to pass up. No problems with it so far, thinking they've probably got the bugs worked out by now.
The *only* problem i have with the Glock 27 Gen 4, is that i carry it in an IWB holster. The sandpaper like texture of the grip scrapes my side somewhat. It is not bad enough for me not to carry it, but it is an annoyance. The Gen 3 is smoother, without sacrificing too much grip. The plus side to the Gen 4 though, is that i installed the beaver tail backstrap, and that really helps with the snapyness of the .40 cal round, and prevents slide bite on my big hands.
The trigger on a gen3 is also different from a gen4. It has an extra slot so the slide release fits tighter. If you use an extended slide release on a gen3, you'll notice some lateral movement. With the gen4 trigger they eliminated that.
Happy birthday sootch!! I don't own a Glock but I rented one at the range a few years ago. I think is was a glock19 it was 9mm. Anyways, that pistol felt perfect in my hands while shooting it. The grip angle, width weight you name it.. but.... because of how I am and how I roll I just can't get past the gun not having a safety and hammer, decocker and da/sa . I might get one, one day just because but I enjoy the trigger of a da/sa hammer pistol
hey don, love your videos and have for about 4 years now. you make some of the best gun reviews on youtube. However there is a ton of information on the glock 27. Could you do some reviews on guns that are new and dont have much about them on the internet? perhaps the remington r51, or glock 41. thanks again for the videos keep on doin your thing!
You are wise to favor the Gen. 3's over the Gen. 4's. And yes, with todays 9mm defense loads, it's usually the best choice for CC. The Buffalo Bore loads that I carry in 9mm have the potential to deliver more energy than a lot of standard .45 acp loads.
You have awesome recoil control and re-acquisition. At the range, this was leaping out of my hand compared to other 40s. Call me a newb but I'd appreciate if you did a tutorial on your specific technique.
I shot the gen4 g26 a couple of weeks ago and immediately put a couple of single stacks up for sale to fund one. I want a 40, but the g26 i shot was amazing. I'm done experimenting with other guns.
Did you know that over 60% of vanilla flavoring comes from the ass of a beaver? Special glands in the lining of the rec room. Then you have real actual vanilla bean. Very rare but expensive and tasty. There are levels of vanilla. So your statement is silly

Who else is still carrying the G27 3.5 in 2022? Will drop a body like a sack of potatoes from any angle.
I went the M&P 40c route 😅 but I love 40
I’m still carrying a 27g3 in 2023, 2024 in a few days.

My carry ammo, Winchester Ranger LE T Series 185G, do just fine so that's ok with me.
Stay safe God Bless ✌️🇺🇲
Mine has failed me once, the original guide spring retainer broke. Luckily I was target shooting.
I bought my wife a Glock 27 for our first anniversary. Still have it and carry it 13 years later. Great little pocket rocket. Packs a wallop
The first gun is the one I carry everyday. I love Glock and always have. I feel they've got the concealed carry market in the bag. Theres nothing that compares as far as daily carrying goes, IMO..
One of the best vids on Glock...👍🏽
Comprehensive review. Excellent!
Really quality review, thanks for the help
I bought the magazine extender. Helped tremendously with control, plus added an additional round.
Happy birthday, looks like you got yourself a new carry pistol, with hell of a lot more stopping power.
I have no problems with my G26 gen 3.Fantastic running firearm.Shot the Gen 27 and it handled just fine as well.I just prefer the 9mm overall.
Nice vid, great production.
Just bought a Cross Breed Supertuck. Wow! It makes concealing a wonderful thing.
Funny how I can watch sootch's videos more than once lol
great review ! u know your stuff ! loving the 4th gen 27 ! handle grip seems a tad longer then the 3rd gen ?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sootch !!!!!!
Thanks~
Been carrying the G27 for a while now and prefer it over my Shield 9mm and even my Glock19! Will see how it feels once it turns warmer.
Very helpful review thanks for the video
Reviewing a glock is like explaining what vanilla tastes like.
Did you know that over 60% of vanilla flavoring comes from the ass of a beaver? Special glands in the lining of the rec room. Then you have real actual vanilla bean. Very rare but expensive and tasty. There are levels of vanilla. So your statement is silly
Excellent review sir!
My favorite CCW G27 GEN4 and all around best pistol tied with my G20 GEN4 Super .40
