Dennis Rodman shuts down Dominique Wilkins - 1991 1st Rd Game 2

  • For the second year in a row, the Pistons led the league in least points allowed and Rodman won another DPOY. After Dominique had a 32-point performance in Game 1 to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead, Rodman stepped up his defense and Nique struggled for the rest of the series.
In Game 2, Rodman did a great job of pushing Wilkins away from the basket, when he tried to get low post position, and denying him the catch off the ball. Other times, Dominique would hold the ball for too long when isolated against Rodman. This allowed other Pistons to easily double team Dominique and force him to give up the ball. Nique didn't attempt many shots on Rodman as a result and only scored on him twice along with drawing just one foul on Dennis.

Dennis Rodman is the only person that could guard every position on the court for a long period and succeeded doing it.

Hakeem absolutely abused the bad boy pistons front line. 37 and 25 in this game.

The Pistons were a grit and grind team. Dennis makes Dominique work but he ain't locking him down especially in game 1 where he scored 32pts. That is why if Dominique can still score with this type of defense, why can't Lebron as the haters say he can't? Smh

😆😆 smh Rodman was a fricking genius… he’d mar the game for opponents. He just made the game ugly for the other team. Legendary!

By 1991, the Hawks inept FRONT OFFICE had destroyed a once GREAT franchise that was a game away from taking out Larry Bird and the Celtics in one of the great playoff games of all-time. Sad to watch. Almost as sad as the time the Hawks traded away their franchise player for Danny "Brittle Knees" Manning. They had a team with Dominique that could have gone to the FINALS against the Rockets.

It seems to me Wilkins wasn't in his best shape; he looks like he lacks some energy in his legs. Detroit has also clearly some Nique rules. I've always thought Wilkins should have used his unblockable jumpshot much more in his carreer instead of taking wild shots. And more left shoulder against Rodman's face...

Dominique Wilkins is one of the very best (certainly Top 50 All-Time) basketball players of his basketball generation/era Michael Jordan's primary scoring/highlight rival from the mid 80's into the early 90's... (Even besting MJ at (1) of their (2) Slam Dunk Contest Showdowns)
