Here's a NEVER before seen Dunk Off of Michael Jordan and some campers and coaches from UAB in 1989. Pretty dope stuff and a rare 360 for MJ and obviously the dope Free Throw Line Dunks!
Big thanks to Scott Perry for this dope footage! - Sport
You can't see any of the players face, the only way you know who is Jordan is by looking at the walk, his walk is so specific you can't miss it, crazy swag.
Louie Tzepher that is why it's called unseen lol ✌️
Not only the walk but the moves in the air... and of course the leg motion!!!
Yup..mj swag is undeniable. Plus the crowd reaction. The little dude dunks like steve francis.
That's mj for sure and Kenny Smith I think
@@protectourfreedom8221 I think that's kenny Smith
America was in love with this man. Every kid on every basketball court across the whole entire country was going, "Jordan!" every time they took a shot 😂
With their tongues hanging out😛😂
Still do. What u mean 'was' lol
Hes the GOAT. And always will be. Could do literally everything at an expert level. Dribble, finish, shoot, make plays, defend, rebound, steals, blocks. All-time most athletic w 1 of the highest all-time IQs. And did it all w a style and grace never seen before then and now
👍
Not me
Michael Jordan's body posture when he walks around on the court is that of someone ready to fly
Damn!!! Hahahhhha
I always thought that Michael shuffled around like he didn't have a muscle in his body. It was really deceiving to watch him walk around like that while knowing that he was one of the world's greatest athletes.
Weh
🌟HAWG! D. Wade & KB had that same walk on the court.

Even at 144p, you can still tell MJ's elegance
Michael Jordans movements on the court are matched only by Michael Jacksons movements on the dance stage. Something magical to their every motion.... The fact that there are no words to describe it makes it even greater.
That's a great point you could say Muhammad Ali in the ring as well.
@@shannonsmith7201 agreed. There are certain athletes that jump off the screen in a way that's hard to even describe. Jordan is the most obvious example of this, and Muhammad Ali is probably the second. Others include Roy Jones Jr and Barry sanders
spot on. MJ goats
Yep absolutely, there's a certain grace Jordan and Jackson both have that no one else did. They were so much better than everyone else even though they were the best on the planet they could make it look effortless. Two GOATS
Both Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson practiced for hours and hours and hours every day perfecting their craft
Mj dunks just have that classic and elegant smoothness...just the perfect style all around like it's being done by a king.
Kings sit back and get fat not go out and entertain people , that’s what the heaters are for
Boring stuff, hope these people didn't pay for this.
@@dallrevenge9256 boring by today's dunking standards but you have to remember that during this time mj was treated like a deity. Easily the most revered athlete in the world. His game was just as fresh as his kicks and everyone wanted to emulate him...he ushered in a completely new style.
DR J was better
Signature moves like Michael Jackson
MJ does it effortlessly...what a legend
Right! He straight up jogged up to that dunk @4:27 smh
MJ was like a ballerina in the air. He moved so poetic. GOAT
I was actually here for this! I was sitting in the area where this person is filming from. This was my first time seeing Jordan in person. Wow the chance of seeing this resurfacing. This just made my day!

THANK YOU FOR SHARING THIS VIDEO!! This dude was just UNREAL!!
Only few can dunk from free throw line. But only Michael can dunk it with such perfect and graceful posture .
This was the summer of '89 and it was a Nike sponsored event in Birmingham. I think it was in conjunction with Just For Feet... a now defunct shoe retailer headquartered in B'ham. It was free so the arena was packed. Counting standees it was close to 10K in an 8500 seat UAB arena. Along with Jordan was Derrick McKey (tallest guy) who played at Alabama followed by a long NBA career (most notably with Seattle)...white guy is Jim Farmer, who also played at Alabama and bounced around NBA and overseas...third guy I am not sure, but I think it is a former UAB player. Fun times back in the day!
I remember going to this in 98. My middle school coach took us. The young guy at the end just won the high-school dunk contest. I remember Jordan pointing at his shoes bc he the red pair that just came out a day or 2 before this!!! I remember some kids on the floor kept telling Jordan to take it through his legs. That was the first time I had seen that dunk.. He dunked a few more times after he spoke...I remember my brother kept saying " I can't believe we're this close"!!! We was behind the goal they was dunking in!!!
But that was in 89
I meant 89, flip the numbers around
I've never seen this before....classic M.J. doing his "Airness" type of things.👍👍💯💯
I was there. But couldn't get in because it was too packed!!! Timeless moment
Multiple dunks from free throw line with ease. GOAT.
In 1989 this video quality was 4k.
What I loved about MJ, The Doctor or even Wilkins is that their best dunks were contested dunks. I enjoy that more than all of those through the legs stuff.
I see one of his dunk doing 360. I never seen that before.
that's like a rare 360 video i've seen of him. even his 360s are ridiculous.. it's like a slow motion tornado, frigging covers the entire width of the free throw box
BIRMINGHAM represent! OMG I remember this event and over 30 years later I still kick myself for missing it. At least he came back a few years later to play baseball. Thanks for posting!
Never seen this footage before! Thanks for the upload.
Those free-throw line dunks slowed down to quarter speed are unreal.
Could y’all imagine a prime MJ in today’s league, lord have mercy

Nah not really old head
He would be washing everyone essentially
Yall are on something different, Mj is the goat but yall hype him like he is a god. He wouldn’t beat GSW with KD if he were in LeBrons spot so we can just skip all that talk.
For athleticism, lots of athletic players today, almost every dunker could do it from the ft line so not so sure about if MJ could dominate that much today. Shooting wise? Everyone could shoot nowadays. System? Most teams today has good system unlike in the 80s. So remove your nostalgia goggles man reality is basketball like everything else doesn't evolve backwards.
He made it look easy. Incredible!!

The ultra rare Jordan 360 dunk. Not sure if I’ve ever seen MJ do one before...
That 360 dunk looks too simple. But most great dunkers won't be able to do that. Maybe 99% of them can't. Type of dunk only Dr.J and MJ can do.
@@leodesilva7638 that's because 360 Dunks weren't popular back then.. guys like Vince Carter and Jason Richardson made it mainstream suddenly everyone in the hood wanted to do a 360 dunk

Just wished MJ did more 360's. His hangtime was just too good not to do it more.
Exactly!
it seems like his body type had difficulty with 360s for some reason, he couldnt spin as much but his poses in midair were like a painting
@@editname8536 Idk I used to think that. There's a video on CZcams that shows a compilation of his 360s. They were good.
I recall MJ saying he didn’t do more 360’s because he felt they were too basic of a dunk. He preferred dunks that showed aerial artistry and hangtime more.
@@tustari Yep plus he said 360s were more of Dominique's dunks.

A lot of people can dunk from the free throw line except no one can palm it like a tennis ball and pump it through the air, then throw it down with power w one hand
That 360 looks like NBA JAM :)

He is the only player humble and GOAT.
So obvious to tell which one is jordan. Amazing
the way his legs moves while his in the air makes his dunks so much more amazing and that one dunk when he kinda whips his legs and feet 1:33 was just so spectacular
I loved the way the warmed him up, looks fun af
This is exactly how the original NBA Jam used to look.
Jordan always had enough hops to spare when dunking from the free throw line. He could have easily jumped from at least a foot farther out.
Real shit tho the best free throw dunker IMO was James White.
@@Naz1204G James white was sick. However, MJ at 7:32 just look so stylish with the pump
James Flight White
Be Distinct The thing is NBA players at the time didn't train dunks at all, they barely trained 3-point shots... Jordan potential as a dunker was immense and we've seen very little of it.
He sure could have. Easily. But never did? What a stupid comment. And the 68 people that liked it are just as stupid.
Jordan had 360 dunk in his arsenal. He's just one of the first to actually possessed this dunk package he simply don't used it all.
The most hops ever!!!!
I have been watching Jordan my entire life and I think the 5:19 mark at this video puts all to bed that his vertical leap was increased with his legend. I even started to believe until I saw this video. I always wondered how high he could get with full rest not like in a game or contest just showing off kind of. This isn’t a low angle this was recorded from above in a nosebleed seat so that puts to bed the fans that keep claiming low angle. Also when he finishes these dunks his head is still near the rim which makes it impossible that he wouldn’t be over the rim because on a free throw line dunk you will be at apex around the dotted line not at the finish. He clearly jumped over 48 inches here with the run up.
that's a 1-foot take off with a run-up. Vertical leap is measured with a standing 2-foot jump. Different biomechanics. Not saying I disagree or agree with whatever the claims are, just that this doesn't support any such claims in any way. Just very athletic and impressive.
Respect for your comment as well. NBA has changed the rules a bit. Some Teams allow a 15 foot approach during the Vertical Jump Test so your allowed to use 1-Foot. I agree his standing Vertical would be much less than running with 1-foot. I believe NFL is still using the two-foot standing Vertical Test you mentioned. It really should be changed in my opinion for all sports. Most of these sports your allowed to run so why not test your Max Vertical while running. All athletes whether 1 foot or 2 foot jumpers will get higher Max Verticals when running because it is derived from momentum. Still respect the comment. However my claim never limited MJ to a standing Vertical. My comment said with the “Run Up”
@@mumf30 it doesn't matter what people say at 5.19 his head is above the rim - people who disagree or say all this different tests points should describe how Jordan got up there at 5.19 ,looks like a 49 vertical to me
Jordan got more explosive in 89 because he started training with Tim grover i read that years ago and if you look at him from being a rookie til around this time and 91 he was super explosive with more muscle
High angle from behind the object (basket in this case) is the same as low nagle from the other side if you dont belive me, take 2 objects and manipulate them in front of your phone camera...so no, his head isn't at the rim, but still a good jump;)
“You left your lights on.” Well, there just gonna have to stay on for a while, aren’t they?

I hope you feel better soon 🙌🏼
I think the hardest part with the dunk is knowing exactly where your foot will be planted when taking off, difficult timing when you're running full speed. MJ took off a half foot past the free throw line but had plenty extra, so much extra he could've taken off a half foot behind the line and made that dunk.
The second free throw line attempt he is behind it - not the first time - but the second he’s actually at the line and not past it with his foot into it at all.
There were two lines, one the free throw line and the other the volleyball line. MJ had extra and could've taken off a half-foot back. I want to see someone his height match that dunk some day, it hasn't happened.
Crowds were better in the 80’s/90’s because people were less egotistical
