One subtle detail I love at the start is how eagerly ellie nods along when she realizes Joel is gonna continue taking her. She is DESPERATE for companionship and it does a great job building up for her survivors guilt and their conversation about loss in Wyoming
yup - I'm not emotionally ready for that scene.
Another little detail: on the last and most important rule Joel asks her to repeat what he said. She gives him the right answer, the answer he wants, but doesn’t repeat it word for word. That says something of Ellie’s character; that even when she’s going along with you, there’s still that stubborn independent streak in her that wants to do things her own way.
Exactly! Remember that Joel was supposed to just drop her off at Bill & Frank's so she can stay there while he continued on to find Tommy. She was relieved that Joel decided to continue to be with her on that journey.

I love how this show is being faithful the core ideas of the games while giving us new elements to expand the story. I didn't expect a whole episode dedicated to Bill and Frank's story but I'm grateful for it.

Agree. She's a different Ellie than Ashley, but definitely still is Ellie nonetheless.
@@mclarenrob2 If I remember correctly she acted similarly in the game, its not so much out of cruelty but she is desperate for Joel to not give her the cold shoulder, and maybe even talk about it. Clear the air so to speak. We can't forget how going into this she's seen her only friend (and crush) lose her mind to the infection. And was alone for weeks after that
Episode 3 was so emotional and everyone was soo good in this series! I can't believe it was only 9 episodes.
A pre 1969 Beretta 71 with the button safety. It is a high quality, well regarded, aluminum framed .22 LR single action pistol with an 8 round, single stack magazine with successful combat experience and history.
It is an excellent choice for this character and scenario. Light weight, low recoil, accurate at pistol ranges and very, very reliable with many different types of .22 LR ammunition. This is not the case with many .22 LR pistols.
It can be carried in Condition 1, round chambered, hammer cocked and safety on if it is in a holster that covers its trigger and safety. Otherwise it can be carried in Condition 3, chamber empty, magazine loaded but it would require an Israeli Draw when presenting from the holster.
It is also the gun Joel gives to Ellie in the game.
Are you american by any chance? just asking
@@omanoma5278 No but lots of non Americans know their firearms :-).
BTW on the TV episode 4, it looked like it is a centerfire pistol from the cartridges and the bore diameter. So it may be a steel framed, Beretta Model 70 in .32 ACP or .380 ACP.
@@vernshein5430 Damn that's some details. I was asking bc in my country owning firearms is illegal and America is the top 1 place I could think of
It's a Beretta model 70, .32 or 7,65mm Browning. Italian Police surplus, maybe, a lot were produced and assigned to several police corps here in Italy. First model, with the button safety instead of the lever one later introduced, 8 rounds. Very good gun, Beretta quality.
This was one of the first bits I watched of this show, before I decided to get HBO Max. That movement at 0:42 with Joel's hand says a lot before he starts talking, and it sold me on the acting in this show.
This episode was perfect and the way bella ramsey looks like ellie from the game in the ending
When Ellie pointed at the weapons and says, “Dude!” To give a clue to traveling dad Joel …
He answers (with a dad tone in his voice), “No”
Great chemistry that the two actors, Pedro and Bella bring to the show is prefect!! ❤️🎉😎👍
I will admit that I'm a little mixed-up on why they didn't opt to take any guns with them from the bunker. Was it out of Joel's respect for Bill's memory, or because most of them were probably non-commonplace models that it'd be too hard to find ammo for to justify the extra weight?
the latter one i think. he'd already stashed away the assault rifle since he said it'd be difficult to find ammo
Better to keep it there in case of an emergency. He can always come back to it.
I mean, finding ammo won't be easy with those guns 😆

Show Bill is an alternate timeline where he chose Frank instead of, in his words, "wisening" the fuck up. Game Frank hated Game Bill for being closed off and ended up leaving, and it got him killed. This change just enhances what Bill's section in the game was trying to teach Joel .
Which are the differences?
In the show, wasn't Bill Joel's friend, who happened to be a gay man? What's the difference in the show?

I remember Bill talked with Ellie in the game, but I guess he will not be able to do so in the show now.
i think it's kind of interesting detail that bill had some women's t shirts in his house. like, he hated the people and the world, he separated himself from everybody, but considered the probability that some woman might actually need help. so he had some women's t shirts in his house.
OR women and female cordiceps kept breaking into their house to do their laundry, but left it behind because it wasn't a pressing fungal hive mind concern.
He probably got them from the neighboring buildings, and they could come in handy at some point, like with trading. After all, it would be a barter economy, and fresh clothes would be difficult to come by. They'd be worth more than people would realize. They don't actually address the clothing issue in the show, but most people would be wearing clothes that would essentially be stitched together rags at that point. If you imagine how much work goes into making clothes and keeping them clean, it would actually be a huge issue in a post apocalyptic world. From thread, sewing machines, soaps, water, etc....you're looking at dozens of different types of supply chains needed to keep clothes on peoples backs. So people might actually trade quite a lot for a fresh new outfit.

i think the show is kind of at a disadvantage because a huge reason why you bond to ellie is because you spend hours walking, fighting, and exploring with her. I wonder, with Ellie having a gun now, how that alters the hotel. Assuming most everything is the same, if she shoots the guy who’s drowning Joel with her own gun, that wouldn’t change anything. Joel’s anger was a cover for his fear at her wandering around the hotel on her own. But then what about after the sniper bit? A good episode but can't help but compare it to the game and think about what we could've gotten...oh well it wouldn't be fun if everything was the exact same, the series is adding things to the game and the game adds things ro the series.
Which are the differences?
This is far better than the games bill plotline
@@kieran8101 but games bill was far cooler and sassier.
@@Winter-Alpha-Omega almost everything, in the game Bill is still alive and we follow ellie and Joel getting there to ask for a car, them avoiding the traps, Joel getting caught on one, Bill saving them and then confronting them, the ellie and Bill on going beef, Bill finds Frank hanging on a house and he leaves a letter where he is really mad at Bill...basically a sad ending for their relationship
@@kieran8101 yes the story and the plot is a lot better and adds more depth, the game on the other hand is a lot more action packed and I wish we got those scenes...still if the next episodes are very heavy on the action, I think it was a wise decision to make this episode more slow paced. It really depends on what they do next.
I can’t believe Joel only took ONE gun with him! 🤣
well i mean, he's only got so much room on his person, right? this isn't the game where he has an inventory or anything like that. an infinite storage backpack, lmao. the episode after this they lose the truck, and the survivors in philly get the shit they left in the car when they ran off from the ambush. if they brought all those guns, that would've been more guns in the hands of enemies. maybe it wouldn't have changed the way things played out, but it would've still been dangerous.

Just feels a bit uncomfy how eager she is to kill compared to game Ellie who was shocked by violence... We'll see where they go with it!
I’m not sure what you mean by eager to kill. If you meant the Stalker in the basement then I’m not sure that counts, but so far she hasn’t really been gung-ho about killing the non-infected.

Based on a scene from the trailer, Joel will properly teach Ellie how to use this exact gun a bit later. Probably in the next episode.
The point of the gun is showing that Joel trusts Ellie. That can be shown by giving her the gun or by letting her carry it openly and teaching her exactly how to use it.

@@eponineseccafico9099 It was completely and I mean totally irrelevant to the actual storyline, it was a massive waste of an episode. It's being said that season one will be TLOU part I and season 2 will be TLOU part II. I can tell you know, if that's true, we're in for a very boring show. TLOU part I alone should have AT LEAST 2 seasons. Bill's town is nothing more than 2 or 3 houses without any infected, while in the game you had to run from a horde only to end up against a bloater.
@@aleksandraszejnoga The guy never denied Bill was gay with Frank, the guy said that it does not add up to the story and it does not. Whether or not Bill is gay does not have anything to do with the story itself and they decided to make a whole damned episode on Bill his gayness instead of making an episode about the actual storyline.
Filler episode. Completely butchered Bill's Town.
Waah wah wah waaah waaah
🤦♂️🤡
She doesn't look ANYTHING like the game character. Who the hell screwed that up? Did the director insist his nephew be in it or something?
You sound intelligent L
And that is relevant to the story/show because?
@@simonediliberto4314 how is it not relevant? If it isn't relevant then cast lady Gaga as Harriette Tubman. You're response is ridiculous
no she was picked because they have good chemistry and she is a good actress. so what if she doesn’t look much like ellie from the game, jesus christ
@@JackMorgan06 good point. That must be why all the other characters, and all characters in all other movies, are cast to resemble the character they represent. Except alien face here gets a pass. Satan Lucifer you're a simp.
this episode was a great disappointment they didn't stick to the game they should've it was gross, so sick of the woke agenda...
Exactly, it was boring and underwhelming. Bill his town was reduced to 3 houses or something like that. We got a backstory of Bill and his partner that we do not care about, especially not since they completely changed it from the game. There were practically no infected at all, no bloater, no action aside from the tiny little hunter raid on Bill's property. I am even starting to doubt they will ever even introduce something like a bloater and if they actually will it will probably be a disappointment as well.
Then don't watch the series, period. Take note, the people who wrote the story of the game are the same people who made this series. They are the ones who knew the story and the world really looks like, and we are just in for the ride of their storytelling. And which part is the "woke" because of two men are together? Slow down with the hate and bigotry .
Dude he was gay in the game too lmfao
It's 2023...guess what? LGBTQ people will get representation. He was gay in the game. You people who never played it are so easy to find when they get butthurt over diversity.
I don’t really agree with you. We knew bill was gay bc of the game. And they told us we were going to get his backstory, meaning his relationship with frank. Which we all should have been expecting. Where I think they went woke is how they took basically the whole episode to tell that story, giving no run time to Joel and Ellie. They should done a 50/50 split on the two stories.
