For a single middle-aged man with no children and no close friends who are into retro gaming like myself, having to seek out someone from whom to buy a family plan slot just to save a few bucks on the temporary ability to play decades-old games that I ought to be able to buy individually, download, and keep forever if they'd just bring back Virtual Console sounds like a real hassle.

IMO Nintendo should just release their entire back catalog of NES, SNES, Gameboy, N64, etc. games to the online service (the ones they still have the license to, at least). It would be epic and I'm sure would get tons more people on the service who are currently on the fence as to its value.

If they just threw 'em up there, then people would complain that some of the games don't work. No one seems to fathom how difficult it is to line up all the licensing and coding that goes into making this all work. It's just not worth it to Nintendo to do it.

MLP, NSO doesn't work this way.... You can't divide an NSO membership across several switches that have digital content. It doesn't work that way. There is a switch that is the admin and then the subordinate switch accounts.
In other words. If you have a switch with digital games and your friend has a switch with digital games, you won't be able to do NSO and still access your digital games. Someone's switch has to be the admin and one has to be the subordinate. NSO and also family sharing is quite lousy. If you don't believe me. Try it.

If you group up into a "family" membership with even just 3 other people, you're already bringing it down to just $20 a year each person, which breaks even with the base membership. The family group is flexible and you can add in other people as time goes on up to the maximum amount. Even at that level, I'd bite. I wouldn't if I had to pay the $50 a year for it individually.
I personally have it with 7 other close friends (or friends of close friends) I know and reap the benefits for even cheaper than the base plan. Indeed, at $10 a year it is an incredible value in total for the included DLC and extra retro consoles especially now that they're bringing GBA over. And we're effectively paying Nintendo less by doing this than paying for the $20/year base membership per person too.

I always knew that GB and GBA games were coming to the Switch. It was just a matter of when. It sucks that we can no longer choose to pay for what we want, AND the fact that you have to go online to play these games and you're screwed if you don't have WI-Fi. But at the very least, they're giving people some outlet to enjoy the nostalgia with the eshops on the 3DS and Wii U being gone for good soon. Why does Nintendo releases their own games on these services "little by little"? I mean, it's not like they have to pay licenses to put their own games here, at least that's what i think.

In it’s current state it’s not worth it and Gaming companies/developers are hard headed in nature since they have a hard time listening to the audience/fanbase but it has potential with a little creativity and cooperation.
If you want GBA emulation alternative options are widely available that save you money and grants access to a larger library of games that suits the individual so if Nintendo wants this service to perform in the optimal sense they got some work to do.

In my opinion, subscriptions are not worth it for games that are 30 years old. I prefer to OWN my games, like the Wii and Wii U days. I still have a Wii U strictly for retro gaming. I also have a modded NES classic that allows me to play not just NES games but also SNES, gameboy, etc. As long as my Wii U and Classic NES remain functioning, I'm good. But with a subscription, the day I forget to pay, or the day Nintendo shuts it down, then it's over. Money down the drain if you ask me. The only subscriptions I do like are for modern games, like GamePass on Xbox. It allows me to try out games before I buy them. I hate shelling out $70 for a game I end up not enjoying as much as I thought. Gamepass is reasonable, price wise, and if I don't like a game it's ok.

I would avoid the Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Advance apps on the Nintendo Switch and just stick with the Game Boy/Game Boy Color, NES and Super Nintendo apps and the Nintendo Switch version of the Sega Genesis Classics compilation game on the Nintendo Switch. The Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Advance apps are nothing but rip-offs.

I actually prefer Switch Online over Playstation, even though I have been a strong supporter of Playstation for 20+ years. I don't mind paying $50 a year just for the access to classic Nintendo and Sega games. I own a huge library of physical games that are mostly PS2 and PS3, so I'll stick with those rather than pay for a digital online service with Playstation.
