    Very interesting seeing these comments over time. My response is mostly directed to all the doubters & haters who comment without really knowing all the facts: It was hard not to take them personally.
    I enjoyed the work. This was my first time EVER doing a polished concrete floor. And wearing heels was my idea.
    It was to show how easy the machine is to maneuver. I did not need to fight with it. As for 'How to go about polishing a concrete floor'...I was given instruction of course. Anyone who doesn't read the manual, along with practice, can have the best machine in the world and still get lousy results. As a Novice, I did make some rookie mistakes, that I took some time to fix. But a homeowner would be far more forgiving to themselves in how much $ they were saving, than the contractor who needed to charge a 'minimum fee' for a small job, to make it worth his time. This floor scratched a very high # on the Moh's hardness test kit. So it did take some time to finish, but I barely broke a sweat doing so. The fact that I didn't have to go down on my hands and knees to grind the edges with a crazy difficult hand grinder, or fight with a much larger machine was the biggest reason why I could physically accomplish this work. Apparently some of you missed the fact that this machine edges up to 1/8" to the wall.
    To all the Contractors out there....You tell me how many of you love to bid on small jobs! Which is what this machine was built to do. I was a serious student, and very proud of what I accomplished. People walking by to a coffee shop next door, all commented on how nice it looked, and some even thought the floor was a slab of granite. In my opinion, this machine offers the Rental Market / homeowner a great option in this 'downed economy'. Those are the facts.

    Hi Amy, thank you for taking the time to watch the video. you can start as early as 7 days to polish concrete but typically 21 days is much better for producing great results. at 7 daya the concrete is still curing and when densified, there is not enough calcium hydroxide to work with the densifier. hope that helps, regards, Brian

HD situation should be resolved this week as the 1st & Terminal store has been trained and just waiting for their computer system to be updated. Had the wrong rental rates. Please check back with Rodney or Sarah at that location or drop me an email directly. see our website for contact info as CZcams won't let us post links.

I think Kerrisdale was just bad luck. They called me back today hoping to rent me a Rhino instead. They seem pretty disorganized so I'm hoping HD works out. I'll email you directly if it doesn't. Cheers.

    Nice job on the floor and with over 150,000 hits on this video I'd say you are hitting the mark. I'm thinking about doing my garage floor, 20X24. The concrete is not very hard. I can't find a contractor here in the Denver area who will do it for less then 5K. I ask them how long it will take the to do it and they all tell me, "make sure the garage is completely empty and we'll have two men working on it, 2 days to finish". 5K is lot for two days worth of work. Your machine appears to be a great alternative.

    • @jimcrookston2776
      @jimcrookston2776 Před 9 lety

      rushlimbaughrules If they use road salt in your area, you might want to be careful doing this to your garage floor. Here in NE Ohio, I see polished concrete floors in entry areas of stores and restaurants badly pitted due to salt. A lot of these places are now putting tile and walk off rugs in the entry areas and transitioning to polished concrete further in.

  • @BrianWilsonWerkMaster
    @BrianWilsonWerkMaster  Před 11 lety

    Hi Joe, when you ask if WerkMaster machines are available in NY are you meaning for rent or purchase. Global Industrial Supply distributes our products in NY. You mentioned acid etching and then staining. The alternative would be to grind the floor (depending on end result and hardness of concrete) with a 30/40 grit metal, then 80/100 grit metal, then 100 grit resin, densify the floor, then 200 grit resin then dye the floor. There are some excellent dyes out there that are not expensive.

  • @BrianWilsonWerkMaster
    @BrianWilsonWerkMaster  Před 11 lety

    Hi Arafet, there are a number of possible reasons you are having issues when working on soft concrete. What is the actual hardness of the concrete on the MOHS Scale? Soft concrete does not produce the same results as hard concrete when trying to get a high shine. Did you densify the concrete? if so, at what point in the process? How many times did you densify. On soft concrete, you may want to densify the concrete as soon as there are no tool marks, typically after 100 grit resins.

    For goodness sakes folks, anybody that has ever watched How it’s made should know better, you don’t build 100 ton coal excavator in 30 minutes and you don’t do a concrete job in 10 minutes either, but the techniques are certainly explanatory enough. Certainly better than some bloke in a man-kini!

    This work is done if the customer so desires ... cost? depends on the type and quality of ceramic you want to install. I think the ceramic takes less time. But also polished concrete looks great. Everything depends of the design.

Home Depot say they are month out from getting training and being able to rent them (even though they have them) and Kerrisdale Equipment are a complete joke - no polishing kits, machines in disrepair, employees badmouthing the equipment. Hi , I had problems with a very soft concrete in a newly constructed warehouse, polishing with diamond resin is fading in few days , is it because it is soft , or it needs to be sealed after resin grinding ?

      I live in an apartment on a cement slab 1200 sq feet. I had the cement floors ground down, cleaned and stained for $2300. I have had tile and the grout in the tile is terrible to keep clean, plus some of the tiles would break from time to time if something really heavy was dropped on it. My I thought the tile floors were colder than the concrete floors. Wearing socks or slippers helps. I love my concrete floors and hate tile floors.

Also, if I was doing a new construction, and I was looking to avoid acid etching, what would you recommend I do to darken/color the concrete itself cost effectively. joe4324! You absolutely cannot acid stain a slab that has been acid washed. The etching process kills all of the minerals that the acid stain need to react with, and you will get no result.

    I want a nice polished concrete floor in my lounge, as opposed to the shitty stained, cracked uneven concrete floor I've got. Wouldn't wear heels to do it mind, even if the machine is easy to manoeuvre😉.

    you need weight and good tooling that cuts and polishes.

    • @BrianWilsonWerkMaster
      @BrianWilsonWerkMaster  Před 10 lety +4

      Appreciate your comments, however, the fact is the Termite is a very light machine and it does indeed do a great job. Your point about weight doesn't really hold water, why - because the Laws of Physic states: "The more often an abrasive can go over a surface, the faster it will abrade it." The secrete is having the right tooling for the hardness of the concrete. You can take a 1800 pound planetary, put the wrong tools under it and watch it skate across a floor. If weight is so important, then how did we achieve these results with a handheld Scarab grinder. see video at: DIY How to Remove Epoxy Paint & Polish Concrete Floors with Scarab Handheld Grinder

      Brian Wilson Brian you need weight and the tooling has to work . If the tooling is working the weight makes a big difference. If it is not working your in trouble. I have a Viper I purchased from a company now out of business All in Concrete located in Kankakee IL. I purchased all the tooling with it . It is setting in the shop because it does not work good. Jobs take forever the machine puts tooling marks down that are all most impossible to get out.If you have a uneven floor the machine rides around on the high spots and takes forever to make the floor look good. The company I mentioned had a salesman by the name of Joe Lopez He is with another company now called In 2 Crete same town and state. They used my credit card number and ran additional charges on it to me. I called it to the attention of the credit card company and he called me and said it was a mistake but they were out of business and I never got reinbursed. What I got was Taken Advantage of and I have been unhappy with the machine on top of it. I did enjoy coming up to Vancouver for you class on concrete polishing.

    I polish for a living. Been doing this over 3 years. That machine would not last. It also won't do anything to extra hard concrete or some that has thick cream on top. It's just not heavy enough. It's also so small it would take forever doing the right passes to avoid scratches and what we call corn rows. I read that you're a novice and I get it. I'm not trying to be mean. Your supposed to make straight passes, over lap a good 6inch on your way back then go down the middle of the two passes. This machine also wouldn't be able to handle slabs that are wavy or have dips in them. We have a small diamatic 550 but only use that for small rooms the big machines won't fit in. It's just not heavy enough.

    I do this kind of work and I'm sorry but no one does this work in nice clean semi-casual clothes and friggin' _heels._ *NO ONE.*
    I realize that this is supposed to be a demonstration of the floor finishing system and it is intended to make the processes appear as simple and easy as possible but there comes a point when realism matters and this video has gone _way_ over the line.
    In the real world, this job is done by a small crew of two to four people with multiple pieces of equipment and driving a dedicated work truck and wearing steel-toed boots and dusty coveralls (rubber soled sneakers after the floor is densified). This work takes two to four days to complete and, for the area shown in this video, will run between $8000 and $14000 depending on many factors.
    Please make your video more realistic because all it does in this form is turn off people who actually know what is involved in polishing concrete floors.

      @fj7538 Před 7 lety +5

      I think you are out of touch with reality with your 8000 to 14000 price point which is why people such as myself and others watching will do it by ourselves. Good luck staying in business while you prey on unsuspecting home/business owners.

      I don't set our prices, that is the going rate in the industry, and we constantly have to turn away business.
      Frank, the point of my comment was to point out the unrealistic depiction in their video, not to argue prices.
      Sorry if you find the price ranges high. I agree, they are high, but, as I said, I don't set prices.

      It's just a rough estimation. Try not to get all caught up in the details.
      It's not based on anything other than what can be seen in this video compared to past experience.
      I'll say the same thing to you that I said to Frank, the point of my comment was to point out the unrealistic depiction in their video, not to argue price (or square footage).
      Feel free to disagree with my estimation. I promise I won't take it personally... nor will it change my opinion.
