This is a concrete floor done in Buena Park, CA by Albuquerque Polished Concrete Company. This is a high gloss polished concrete floor with heavily exposed aggregate. We used the Husqvarna PG820 planetary grinding machine and started with 30 grit metal bond diamond tooling to expose the aggregate in the floor. Wet grinding was used to produce the floor and a sodium silicate densifier/hardener was used to assist in the concrete polishing process. The floor was polished to a 3000 grit finish using resin bond diamond tooling and sealed with a lithium densifier based polished concrete sealer. The floor was then burnished with a hogs hair pad and a high speed propane burnisher. Please go to our website for more info. Enjoy!

Just read some of the comments. Wow. I was actually here for the content; not for the videography. But, to each their own. Like the floors and the process. It looks great. Just had this done at my store after 15 years. Looks like glass. Not an easy or fun process. Is this a very expensive thing to do on a large scale?

I wish I never sold my Husqvarna 820. Best planetary grinder Ive ever used. It will grind circles around the HTC 800 I had. ( I sold everything and went with PrepMaster/Terrco..nothing can out grind them)

Was this a particular type of concrete? Or are most slabs able to be manipulated to look this beautiful? I've got 6500sf of concrete floor to figure out what to do with.. thanks for any info.
+Bryan Unger i don't work for this company but i manage a different one out of ogden utah. floortex. But you can polish really any floors. they may have had some different color gravel mixed in but if you want to have a nice floor you might want to look into an acid stain. you stain the concrete to really whatever color you want then put a sealer over it to help lock in the shine.you can contact me through floortex@gmail.com if you have anymore questions
Hi Bryan,
This mix was integrally colored and special aggregates were selected by the owner. This level of polish can be attained on almost any slab, however the aggregate can be different. The standard aggregate used in concrete is different based on where you live. Around here we primarily see river rock aggregates which is a combination of multiple colored rocks (granite, quartz, basalt, etc...). Any slab can be ground and polished to have the aggregate exposed, but in some areas the standard aggregates used are not as attractive or don't polish as well. If you are considering polishing and want to have the aggregates exposed like this I would recommend picking a small inconspicuous area where you can grind the floor down to see the aggregate. Once you've exposed it, wet it down with water and that will give you a good idea of the colors you can expect to see when you polish it. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

hey fellas, I have my own flooring company in Australia, about to start polishing after 13 years of floor prep. Is the reason you keep it so wet to stop the dust?
I polish concrete too and yeah it does keep the dirt down but honestly I'd rather use my sase vac and change bags then have to deal with all that mess
Keeps diamonds cooler/lasting longer, some tools require wet grinding, and dust control. Depends on the jobsite and spec of floor.

I love the look of polished concrete and this is a great video, thank you. I do have a few questions. 1) can radiant heat be placed under a floor like this? 2) How to keep the floor from cracking? 3) I love the agregate that is exposed but a friend of mine said since the density of the agregate and the concrete are differenct the two will expand and contract at different speeds and amounts. He believes therefore that some of the agregate will come loose. Is this true? Thanks so much.

Awesome video!! Greetings from Indonesia! We just recently bought our husqvarna PG820 and are novice to the polishing industry - industry thats very young here.. Quick Qs; any reason for the wet grinding? During our training, we are not recommended to do so. We tried wet application on the resin pads, it 'chew up' the pad more. Any trick and tips welcome .. Thanks for the comments!! We prefer wet grinding during the heavy removal steps primarily as a safety measure for our crews and the safety of others on the jobsite. While dry vacuums do a reasonable job of removing the airborne dust as it is generated, we found they would still leave a layer of dust on the floors. As the hoses and cords were moved around and foot traffic disturbed the dust, a large amount ended up airborne causing a safety concern. We have also found the wet grinding to provide better material removal as it helps to keep the diamonds cool and from "glazing". The resin tooling you use needs to be designed for wet use. Dry use resin bonded diamonds are not good for wet grinding, so I would look to find resin bonded tooling designed for wet use.

hey mate, thats not the polisher, no grinding there, in the last few stages once you have taken down the concrete enough you start buffing it with a sponge like plastic grinding face. you have to buff over and over to get it to shine like that.

How long is the concrete left to cure before the polishing process? Are cores ever cut after completion for strength testing?
Good question I'm a finisher and I wondered the same thing. I'd give my own floor a month. I'd feel safe with that answer lol. Being no one would after 5 years lol. I'd go by the drying time line concrete takes to get to max strength but I think it can be done alot sooner safely.
