    I've struggled with the underhook half so much and I think a major part of why is that I never realized that I needed to slide out after the underhook is made. I kept being flattened and not understanding why. I feel like a dummy but I'm so glad to see this!

    Fantastic video Lachlan. I've watched so many videos on this sweep and I think this is the best one. Could you talk a little bit about how to deal with an opponent who tries to knee slide once you get to base? I am often about to torque the knee, free my leg and get up to base, only to have the opponent knee slide out of the attack. Thanks!

    • @MichaelPhillips-jw4bj
      @MichaelPhillips-jw4bj Před 6 lety

      He shouldnt be able to just pull his leg out........ anyways use eddie bravos variation where you use a half leg lace and you dont even need the knee torque step. czcams.com/video/bJfNs3TZqIQ/video.html this match shows it perfectly...............Also you can use lapel feeds to wreck people who knee slice pass ala bernardo faria czcams.com/video/bJfNs3TZqIQ/video.html .......If all else fails use this czcams.com/video/kthpxyueskk/video.html and once the lapel feed is on doesnt matter if he pulls out, The lapel grip works as a deep single that you cannot sprawl out of, also pulls on shoulder (ur top base) too.

    Hi, I bought the Lachlan half guard DVD it's amazing. I see he underhook grabs around the waist (leaving opponent room for a darce or whizzer and get to dog fight). Is there a reason he doesn't grip around the leg like a single leg takedown grip instead? I get guillotined, darced and whizzered with the hip grip often. Thanks.

  • @MrSinusu
    @MrSinusu Před 4 lety +1

    In the Q&A section, the old man missed one important point. After he lifts the oppenent's leg, he should do a reverse shrimp action, then he can sweep more easily. That's what Lachlan did.

    Hey Lachlan! My LCL got damaged after I had cut the corner, but before I'd made the leg switch (e.g. 4:30). It happened when my opponent tried to stand up, elevating my foot off the ground, thus twisting my knee. After that, I guess my knee was weaker, so I've even heard some pops while I'm in the process of cutting the corner. Maybe my legs are too short and stubby or my knees inflexible or something..? Do you have any advice on how to deal with this?

      This sweep should be part of your z guard game. In this video Lachlan has a high knee shield before shooting the underhook. But you can do exactly the same thing when starting from z guard which is another form of knee shield.

    I'm wondering: do you also get 3 points when you move to side control off this sweep? or only 2 points for the sweep itself?

    • @luqout
      @luqout Před 5 lety +1

      Hi, 3 points are only awarded for a guard pass, so in this instance it is just 2 points for a sweep.

    • @2noob2win86
      @2noob2win86 Před rokem

      three points are awarded for a guard pass two points for a sweep. so you could technically sweep for two and let them pull you into a half guard and then pass it for 3 more ....

    • @johnd6258
      @johnd6258 Před 4 lety +2

      I noticed they didn’t cover that. Look for Lucas Leite’s “dogfight” position. Squeeze your knees together once you pivot onto them. You can also use the outer arm to block the knee from coming out. From there you can work the sweep.

  • @southsidebrazilianjiujitsu7849

    This is exactly what Lucas Leite does

  • @Markenheimer

    Have you injured anyone from this knee torque from half guard? I worry about dropping into the second option because the torque on the knee is so strong.

    • @Markenheimer
      @Markenheimer Před 6 lety

      Thank you! I just bought your half-guard seminar. One thing I notice right off the bat is that the way you free your knee to get to dogfight is different in this video than your seminar. In this video you plant off the balls of your foot and bridge into their knee and retract your knee. In your seminar footage you drop to your shoulder and sprawl to create space to free your knee. Which way do you recommend doing it now?

    • @AbsoluteMMAStKilda
      @AbsoluteMMAStKilda  Před 6 lety

      Hey Mark, do the bridge if you can. If you can't bridge, the sprawl out is the way to go!

    Big risk for knee injury for the guy being swept?

    • @shaun374
      @shaun374 Před 4 lety +1

      Hmm.... I do this all the time. To be fair, I don't torque the knee as much as Lachlan does in this video. Though I will start to because it's really powerful. I think the key is to use control when you're doing this. Most often, the guy on top will go along with you because he doesn't like the feeling of his knee. You don't really need to yank on it with your legs/levers because his biggest concern and likely only focal point is your underhook. When doing this on people, they seem to forget completely what's going on with their legs until they feel the need to go with you because of the pressure on the knee.
