    I also don’t think it’s mold because I would most likely have an asthma attack when near a pox baby lol. I was gifted a BBB for Christmas last year by my aunt. he’s from the SS factory and has the circles with the smaller dots inside in random spots on his head. They’re pretty light in color. I love him a lot despite the pox :) I wish there was more concrete information on the pox because it can be really confusing. This video did help ease my worries of it being harmful though.

      Yes, I have a few kids with pox and love them very much. Sometimes it just doesn't matter. Your comment about asthma is very interesting and another good point against the mold argument! Thank you for making it.

    I can remember 30 years ago my mother taking my beloved CBK, Marcel out of the washing machine and it being covered in pox. I was devastated! I never let her wash another doll after that. Possibly a reaction to certain chemicals.

      @Brekkeb  Před 10 dny

      Wow, that's crazy. But yeah, some develop that quickly. Others can take years to really show up.

    Proof of your mixing theory may be in my old cabbage patch doll whose whole arm turned a purple color with the exception of the fingers.

    The rash pox on P kids are mostly on the 1983 p kids that had the baby powder scent in the vinyl

      @@fannypack74 Sorry Fanny, I just saw this! Yes, they are prone to pox if they're from the right factories, although any can get them in the right conditions.

    Just rescued my first 'pox' kid from a thrift store; originally passed him up since I thought it was mold! Very informative vid; would vinyl restorer work on the regular 'brown' pox or should I try the zit cream treatment first??

    • @Brekkeb
      @Brekkeb  Před 3 lety +3

      Use the zit treatment first. Vinyl restorer helps fix the overall look of the vinyl, and I think it helps with pox a bit, but me main treatment is the zit cream. Good luck! Remember, nothing is definite with these kids! Each kid reacts differently to treatment.

    Thanks for your video, I am really questioning pox a lot more now. I just made a discovery that one of my preemies has reverse pox. I had a closer inspection and realized that it happened in the exact area that his head was contacting the couch. I had a cpk baby sitting beside him and he didn't have anything... despite his powder scented head. Because of the beans and his body being weighed down differently, his head did not contact the couch. Now I am really curious to know what the couch is treated with and why it caused the pox. I have some vinyl repair spray on order (thank you) and I have put a protective layer btwn the couch and the doll heads. Just wondered what your thoughts were!

    • @Brekkeb
      @Brekkeb  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Emily, I'm glad you found it informative. As for our couch potatoes, I'm not sure the couch is the culprit. Each batch of vinyl they made was slightly different and as such, reacts differently to the environment they are in. It could be that the environment in that space had the right conditions for one kid and not the other. It would have been warmer and more moist closer to the couch. Having said that, we just dont' know enough about what causes pox to come out to really give a definitive answer. It could be what the couch is treated with in your case! It never hurts to take precautions.

    Thanks for the great video. You mentioned that you work at a museum. Do you have access to a portable X-ray fluorescence analyzer? I have also been thinking that the pox is from a separation or leaching in the vinyl rather than from mold or other biologic contaminant. If it's leaching some type of phthalate, , a portable X-ray fluorescence analyzer could give a clue to what it is. What do you think?

    • @Brekkeb
      @Brekkeb  Před 3 lety +1

      I'm afraid the museums that I have worked at did not have access to that type of technology, but it's certainly an interesting theory if we could get access to it!

    What is the pox called that you called Spot? It was on the second dolls head that you showed in this video? This is the kind the kid I just bought has. Do you know how to treat that particular kind?

    • @Brekkeb
      @Brekkeb  Před 2 lety +1

      It's just a varient of the regular pox. It would reqiure the same treatment with the zit cream. However, as with any kid, test the treatment on a small out of the spot way first to see how the vinyl on that particular kid going to react to it first. Also, keep in mind it doesn't always work. Sometimes it works amazingly well, other times it doesn't touch it. Each kid and vinyl mixture seems to react a little differently.

    Do u think the CBK pox can hurt humans, most notably kids? Thanks for the awesome informative video

    • @Brekkeb
      @Brekkeb  Před 2 lety +3

      No, I don't believe that pox are harmful to humans of any age. It's purely a chemical reaction taking place within the vinyl itself. I back this up by owning a number of kids with pox, as you can see. Cassie has been with me for over 20 years and my niece plays with her regularly. Thank you. :)

    Does anyone know if kids can “catch” pox from one another? If it’s vinyl degradation then no, but if it is a microorganism then it may be possible right? Anyone have dolls that have “caught” it?

    • @Brekkeb
      @Brekkeb  Před 2 lety +1

      I've never had one 'catch' pox from another doll. Dolls stored together under the same conditions can be seen to develop them together, but that's because the conditions are right for the environment to accelerate the vinyl degredation. However, I don't believe pox is a microrganism either so I'm biased. You need to decide what you believe. :) Maybe others will help you by answering.

I was going to chuck it away because I thought it was mould but thanks for telling me this and I will try to fix it but if I’m being honest I don’t know if I can save it now I think I’ve got 1000 pox on my one

      @Brekkeb  Před rokem

      I'm glad you found this helpful. For kids such as you're describing people have done full head cover zit treatments, but it typically takes quite a few and will lighten the overall skin tone of the doll's head. Other's have taken to painting them. I've not done this myself so I can't give any details, but that's also a possibility.

    Do you have any more ideas on dark stains all over in the actual layers of the vinyl like the first doll you showed? this is my second time getting a doll with them I want to try and save them. I did the cleaning tried bleach tried everything including fading cream for acne. I am out of ideas thank you!

    • @Brekkeb
      @Brekkeb  Před rokem +1

      YOu may have to treat the pox more than once. Also, make sure you're using the right kind of light bulb and that the heat is close enough to the head (but not too close, you don't want to sorch it). If that doesn't help, I'm afraid I'm out of ideas. I know some people have managed to clean whole heads but that was after months of treatment and I've just honestly not gone that far. I just let the kids live their best lives the way they are.

      Hola carolina,
      Voy a asumir que tienes algo de inglés, ya que estás leyendo mi blog. Tus hijos tienen algo llamado "Pox". Es realmente la decoloración del vinilo. No puedes simplemente limpiarlo. Has comentado el vídeo de la viruela. ¿Has mirado el de tratarlo? si no, mira el video titulado "Zit Cream Treatment". Debería ayudar. Si necesita instrucciones en español, hágamelo saber y usaré el traductor de Google nuevamente.
