      Honestly he's the only post-big3 player who has the desire and motivation to be the best. Others, like Zverev and Medvedev, seem to be content winning just 1 grand slam. Medvedev's reaction after the AO final showed that he really didn't care that much about winning.

  • @temp850
    @temp850 Před 2 lety +171

    He's the best young player I've seen in years. As an aussie, I am just so happy to see great talent emerging as it has been a bit quiet in that regard for some years. There are some very good young players around but few great talents. Alcaraz already has the best drop shot I have ever seen in fifty years of watching tennis. I love how he uses it with a serve and volley approach. He has so many options.

  • @TheRabbitsaver
    @TheRabbitsaver Před 2 lety +650

    Those drop shots are mental. It is almost impossible to play him when you combine those perfect drops with such a massive forehand. I mean the fact that he wins every single point directly off the drop or after setting it up with the drop already shows how mentally destructive it is for the other player

    • @Funkytrip73
      @Funkytrip73 Před 2 lety +64

      It gets in your head. We had one at our club who mastered those dropshots as well. You just knew that in every frikkin' rally, that dropshot *could* come, but not always. Made you freak out mentally and often position yourself incorrectly in anticipation.

    • @javihernandez2755
      @javihernandez2755 Před 2 lety +73

      Exactly, the great thing is that he doesn't use drop shots to compensate for, lets say, his inability to play long rallies or a weak forehand or backhand, he simply has all the tools so even though he uses the drop shot a lot, it's still unpredictable

    • @TheRabbitsaver
      @TheRabbitsaver Před 2 lety +30

      Yeah that is the thing. When you have a such a huge huge forehand and to be honest Alcaraz even has a pretty nuts backhand, the opponent just always has to be so far back whenever they are on the defensive. And just like Nadal, Alcaraz has excellent hands too and insane court coverage. All he needs now is his serve to be an all court weapon.

    • @Aserve1st

      @javihernandez2755 Před 2 lety +16

      @@TheRabbitsaver the point is, he has the speed and the "intention", he lacks a better effectivity and placement. When he gets >75% of firsts in like today, he becomes really difficult to break through and it gives him such an important advantage. However, he's usually in the 60s% at best which is very inconsistent for a player that needs to be dominant. But, well, the thing is he's barely 19... If even Nadal had some periods of very good serving at his peak (USO 2013 and 2017 come to my mind), Carlitos who already has a very good speed can become a true monster

      He's just taken some of the best parts of each of the big 3: Nadal's speed and determination, Djokovic's defense-to-offense and consistency, and Federer's aggression, touch, and shotmaking (we'll see if he can match those returns in the future), and combined them into one playstyle. It's a natural evolution for a young player to learn from the best parts of the elites that came before him, Alcaraz is just the first of the next gen (and the gen before that, lol) to do it really effectively. Now if he can just copy Federer's serve (not that his serve isn't pretty solid already) he'd be completely untouchable.

    Carlos Alcaraz has now cast that mystical aura around the tour, a halo that comes along with the very best of the best, and creates that huge psychological edge over the rest of the highly skilled lesser mortals. This happened when Federer emerged, when Nadal rose, when Novak transitioned to his stratospheric levels. This is the metaphysical dimension to the rarefied champion of champions, that takes care of half of their matches even before a serve has been made in the game.
    At the tender age of nineteen, that awe-inspiring halo has been bestowed on this phenomenal talent. It is his to keep now, and if he can hold on to it, there is a decade waiting to be won over, and more.

What hands Carlos has. He can suddenly hit a 100 mph shot off either wing followed by a 20 mph dropper. He can also drop shot off another powerful shot. I’ve never been excited than when Rafa debuted back when. Congratulations, Carlitos! You better work out those 💪 because you’re gonna be lifting bigger and heavier trophies 🏆 from this day forward.

    He flipped the script on Zverev. Their first meeting in Acapulco 2021 ended up with Sascha winning 6-3, 6-1. And this time, Alcaraz downs Sascha with the exact same scoreline.
    As if taking down Rafa & Nole back to back wasn't impressive enough already, he made a complete mockery out of his opponent in the finals, who also happened to be the defending champion. No teenager since Rafa has made such a statement in the world of tennis. And the scary thing is, he's not even at his full potential & will keep improving!

    About one year ago I thought Sinner could be a game changer in ATP tennis, but no. Only Alcaraz is the one to compete with Nole and Nadal until he becomes the new World Number 1. The way he handles with pressure is outstanding. Watching him is different. Love him ❤️

      Sinner was overhyped soo much imo. Pretty consistent but couldn't really win anything big. His skill ceiling wasn't and still isn't very high. Carlitos on the other hand is also very consistent but his level of play is much higher which allows him not just big tournament victories,but now,his level is at a point where he can win against the best of the best and is the favourite in basically every match albeit one or two matchups( like Rafa/Novak at GS)

    • @jorgeoswaldojr
      @jorgeoswaldojr Před 2 lety +2

      However, it is very important that Sinner and others step up their game. If there’s a complete one-man dominion, tennis might become a bit predictable and boring. We need the rest of the guys to step up their game and keep Alcaraz on his toes.

    • @razgriz1ne1ne48
      @razgriz1ne1ne48 Před 2 lety +6

      I do think Sinner has potential, he just needs to get in shape, he looks frail, also he doesn't really construct points well, his saving grace is that violent forehand and a very Djokovic like backhand (stroke wise)
      But now here comes Alcarez with a even more violent FH , fit like a Olympian and has scarey lvl of court smarts and focus for his age

  • @patrikmarflak6559
    @patrikmarflak6559 Před 2 lety +31

    Apart from everything else, there is this special thing about Alcaraz, that he always plays so freely in the finals, like if all the pressure was gone after the semis and the last step is the easiest thing to do.
    He’s 6:0 in finals matches now, 13:0 on sets (three setter was the Next Gen final against Korda). This year he dismantled Schwartzman, Carreno Busta and Zverev in the finals. Only Ruud played a competitive final match against him but still lost in two sets. Alcaraz is simply phenomenal and has the mentality of a great champion.
    I have no idea who will stop him from winning most big tournaments after Nadal and Djokovic retire. Maybe we will soon learn that even they can’t stop him on the slams. I don’t see any reason why he should disappoint in Paris or New York with this kind of form and confidence. And I am super curious about how his game will work on the grass. We might see a little more fake dropshots there I think.

      Don't count out the big 3 yet.
      Both nadal djo were rusty or hindered.
      Give it more time then we shall see how everything pans out.
      Although I feel like fed might have a really hard time with alcaraz but we shall see.
      I'd say probably Meddy has a shot but not if the crowd is against him which it probably will every time he plays against alcaraz.
      Crowds in tennis are fickle and unfair so get ready for alcaraz to win a lot of tourneys without competition especially whenever big 3 are gone

      The scary part of his game is that it is high-risk, but can work in any surface. I think he could be just as dangerous on grass as he has been on hard courts and clay. The one problem he may have is to adjust to the bouncing in the new surface for his forehand and backhand winners (dropshots should work just the same). So, he might be vulnerable in the first round of Wimbledon, as he makes those adjustments, but being high-ranked will avoid him playing against tough opponents then, though a brilliant Seb. Korda (which is clearly under-ranked at n.30) showed recent-form Carlos is not unbeatable.
