- We got our hands on Hasbro's latest iteration of The Black Series Darth Vader's helmet for a review! Putting it side by side with The Black Series Darth Vader's helmet from 2018, we are gonna look at key differences and features between both helmets!

The gloss of the 2018 is more reminiscent of empire strikes back but other than that looked pretty poor, but the new one looks alot better good job hasbro
The gloss black is more movie accurate but the two tone version and sharper line’s works well with it
I like the 2022 version better

Well I have de 2018 version and I guess I like it more, it’s more “vintage” like the Empire Strikes Back / Return of the Jedi. However I love the red eyes of 2022 version. Great review!

Sad that no one in the comments seem to know that they are talking about.
The two tone color scheme of the new one resembles that of EVERY appearance of Vader besides Revenge of the Sith where it’s fully black. Proportions, asymmetry etc. is very off on both Black Series Helmets and is not accurate to ANY of the versions. It is still nice for display tho and offers great internal details for that.
You speak true. However I do feel that the updated version looks a lot more screen accurate thanks to its longer neck sculpt.
The new paint job in the mask also gives it a good contrast and highlights the features like the new red lenses better.
Though it’s not movie prop level of accurate, I feel most people wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference
I bet that was done for licensing purposes. Lucasfilm didn't want a bunch of fully accurate helmet replicas out in the wild.
After looking at mine, I'd have to say I actually like the 2018 one probably slightly more (mine (2018) did not come with all those buff scratches, and was pristine) - they are obviously modelled on different movie props - so yeah - I prefer the 2018 one, but the new one is just fine as well....
I'm also a fan of the pure all black (2018), it looks "more" Vader as we know him....
agreed mate.i have the 2018 all black version and just bought this new one. aside from the neck part that was lacking in the first version .i can say im quite disappointed in this new one. first of all it looks like crap the 2 colour scheme. it was made for the film and only for the film since the camera only picked up black and no shawdows so the grey highlights were made but in the SW universe his helmet is meant to be all black like in ROTS. In real life this colour scheme looks unfinished and horrid. the only thing todo is repaint the new neck piece all black and clip onto the older version. after that i will be putting up the new helmet with the old short neck piece for 50 euros or dollars if anyone wants it. cheers

The high gloss of the 2018 looks much better than the matte look of the new one, but the lower neck guard of the 2022 looks very good

I have the 2018 one and it is FAR worse
So the 2018 model is based on the new casting of the helmet that was done for Revenge of the Sith - the helmet is symmetrical and the helmet is a lot narrower. The 2022 helmet is based on the helmet from A New Hope - the original sculpt for the OT was asymmetrical, and that admixture of black and grey reflects how Vader’s helmet was coloured for Episodes IV and V. For Return of the Jedi, Vader’s helmet was much more chromed for the opening scene but looks identical to its Episode V rendition in subsequent scenes. The red lenses are also taken straight from the Episode IV helmet.
The 2018 one looks like something from star wars 6. I just wish the neck piece was already longer to have a full collection of Vader helmets because they changed throughout the films too. And the dome is small on both helmets. It was way bigger in the movies which is annoying
Incidentally, I dig the gun-metal look of the updated 2022 version as opposed to the "piano finish" of the 2018 one, lol.
I recently missed out on an eBay opportunity to get the 2018 version as it got out of my price range( more so what I was able to bid financially) the price got to where I’d rather wait and try to get this 2022 version for the price range the ones on eBay were going for.

Just received mine. Very nice compared to 2018. I have both but 2022 is my favorite, especially the red eyes and audio. 👍

Looks like they took more care in the new one. Looks unscratched where the old one out of the box was really scratched.
I think its just dust but the visor did look scratched/smudged. I have a 2018 version and can confirm new out of the box is flawless and everything is super reflective.
It's impossible not to scratch that shinny plastic. Even a micro fiber cloth with leave scratches
How did you not notice the difference in size of the vent on the bottom chin area, one is so much larger than the other!

Our guess is that as long as the global supply chain is still rebooting, Hasbro would like to play it safe with releases date. That said, getting it earlier will be a pleasant surprise!

How did you get it so early? I'm torn. I pre ordered obi show versions: vader helmet, force fx saber, and hot toys vader. But rots is my design do you think hasbro and hot toys will issue rots versions in 2025? Maybe I should just wait.

@@connorsimpson503 It is actually a Fairly close recreation of the new hope Vader helmet …. Not explained in this video . They really have done an exceptionally good job on this ! And my gut instinct not to purchase the 2018 version and hold off has played off !

Yes, but it's one piece on the bottom part. Plus, you would have to paint it gloss black to match the rest of the 2018 style. The 2022 coloring is based on the ACTUAL shooting helmet's grey color with black accents design created for it to show up better on camera.

just grabbed this helmet today, love this thing. never got the old one but this is much more accurate to the og prop other than size.
I just got this 2022 version on Ebay at the cheapest price I could find at $131 (MSRP) and I'm glad I got it. Now I have the best of both worlds, lol.

2022 looks a millionth times better
In my opinion, I still prefer the 2018 which I’ve got… it’s much more classic and original for Darth Vader….

The paint job for the 2022 is actually original to a new hope. They did all black gloss for empire

The real question, does the new one fit better. I have the 2018 and man it felt like I couldn't even turn or tilt my head wearing it. Is the new one with a longer base any roomer?

2022 neck seems more accurate, which gets my vote. For a costume or cosplayers I wonder if the lower/longer 2022 neck may scratch the shoulder armor?
Don’t think so. Didn’t look like it would in the movies. But you will have your head back.

No they're pretty much exactly the same size. I got mine early and it's the same as my 2018 version

This newer version seems nice, but looks like it's got too much silver. I'll stick with the 2018 version I got on clearance for $49.
The original helmets are more grey than black...
A full black helmet is just an illusion due to the lights during shootings.

The 2022 looks to be more modeled of Rebels Vader where he does have a red tint, and the 2018 is based on the older movies. Not sure if it's just the image on the video but why would they make the helmet gray? The face part is a different color/finish from the top part also?
The original Vader helmet was dark grey and black. It wasn’t until ESB and ROTJ that it became all black.same with the red tinted lenses
The red lenses first appeared in A New Hope and everything that came before it chronologically (except for maybe episode III)
@@StoryArtsConcepts It was kind of an orange-ish red because they used Rayban sunglass material for the eyes on the original ANH helmet. When the lights hit the material just right, it looked reddish.

I have a 4k restoration file from a theatrical print and when the light hits the lens just right, they are a kind of orange-red color, again because they were made from that era's sunglass material. They were mistakenly made red in "Rogue One."
Love the 2022, I do think the breathing is way too fast. It should have more pauses in between breaths
saw the new helmet in store a couple of weeks ago, didnt get it as my wallet was already empty by then, might go back soon, hopefully they still have it. it will be a nice replacement for the crappy thin plastic fan club one i have that cost me £20 years ago.... and it will also be my first Hasbro helmet!
I think the all Black looks better the red shows your eyes
Based on the collar section the new one is based on A New Hope and the 2018 version on Empire/Jedi. Look at the triangular grill under the chin. That's accurate and explains why the new version has a deeper collar down the neck.
Well I mean the red lenses are also a dead give away that it’s based on the time frame of Kenobi-A New Hope so
Hi. Great review. Can anyone please confirm if the newer one has a quieter speaker then the older one. I sent my new one back as it was only half as loud. The replacement was the same. Is this supposed to be the case. Thanx for any advice.
It's the same just with a neck and red eyes I was hoping for a face reshape but it's very good and both either side of my TV will be cool
Face is reshaped, the cheeks and bottom vent are different in shape

Hi guys I bought a 2018 mask for halloween but it doesn’t come with the top part of the helmet I got it for 38 pound would anyone know where I could find parts for the helmet

Tbh I wouldn't buy either. The dome is just too off-putting to me. I wish they would beef it up a little more and correct the overall form to better reflect the movies shape

@@jeremydrew1227 I believe you mean ep6 not ep3?.. but yes I know.. though I only newly realized this fact. That I never noticed this back in the late 70's early 80's is due to the lighting in the movies that it actually looks all black even tough it is not.

I love it but I don’t love the price. I got the original one in 2018 for $50 dollars, so it’s hard for me to justify getting the new one. I really want it though so I’ll probably still get it

None looks fine, both are wide and the dome is short. Plus, the Mask is very simetric. The charm of the Real prop is that it was actually asimetric and it looked weird, imperfect, menacing

i definitely prefer the black gloss of the 2018 Black Series Helmet but the lower neck and the red eyes are something they were missing from the 2018 version, if the new Black Series helmet had the gloss but still had the lower neck and red eyes it would be close to a perfect helmet.

@@GeekCulture the neck piece, I like that it’s longer and that the chin vent is like the one from the Kenobi series. The gun metal paint job is a great touch along with the red lenses. I think overall this helmet is pretty amazing. Wish it would come out sooner tho because I really wanted to have it for Halloween.

From what we can tell there isn't a way to make it persistent
Also why is it this breathing version? Why not the slower breathing, both sound cool but slower one just is better

The only thing better about the 2022 is the red lenses and it's a matte black instead of the God awful shinny black. I have both them as I was able to get mine early. I like both but the red lenses look much more accurate. It's impossible to keep my 2018 helmet clean of finger prints and scratches
The red lenses is only more accurate to like the A New Hope movie and the stuff that comes before that movie chronologically. From Empire Strikes Back to Return of the Jedi, the 2018 helmet is more accurate

It's the same size with the exception of the neck
The 2018 helmet is the better one as it is like the ROTJ movie version.
