    I know they're master and apprentice but it's almost like a "father/daughter" vibe going on there the way Shin's body language shows that she's constantly looking to Baylan for guidance, and him sitting back like a wise and charismatic mentor figure who isn't entirely evil. I can't wait to see more of these characters... at least as much as what remains. Rest in peace, Ray Stevenson.

    I think they are Jedi who like Pong Krell sensed something dark was about to happen ducked out of the war at the right time. They then saw Thrawn and realized he was the best bet to form something better than the Republic and the Empire with a slightly darker Jedi serving it.

    One thing worth noting is that the crystal may not be partially bled but partially healed. If balan was once a jedi sentinel, combined with his respect for the old jedi ways, and imprinted that portion of himself upon a bled crystal it would cause it to start moving from red to yellow which would also allow for the orange coloration.
    For Shin however I can help but get the feeling she is going to turn Balan due to a sheer hunger for power that has not fully taken root and so her crystal may only be partially bled because of it.
    I can't wait to see what happens next.

      In my opinion, the writing for Ahsoka is lazy and the lead female performances are flat. Balin and Shin are by far the most interesting characters in the show but everyone else doesn't do their animated predecessors justice.
      Chopper and Huyang are the only live-action adaptations that are well executed. I will watch the show but I think Filoni could have done better.

    My theory is he is the Jedi Shadow version of who Mace Windu was, that rather than purple, his exposure to the dark side made his blade orange, and that like Mace Windu, he was not afraid to lean towards the dark side while still being somewhat anchored in the light. They are not looking for power, and they are reluctant to have to potentially kill a Jedi, so they have not fallen to the dark side. They may be more Gray than Dark, and not hesitant to do what they need to do to achieve their mission, which may see them turn on Thrawn, since they may be on a mission to stop him, or some Sith threat.

      albeit remember that Baylan literally says that if Thrawn returns, for them it would be "inimaginable power" in answer to "what's in it for us ?"
      So I think he is still after power.
      The question is "did he know he was working to free Thrawn" or not ?
      He was "paid" to do stuff. It doesn't mean he knew the end goal before the map appeared. In that case, your take would be correct. He wouldn't be "looking" for power. He just would think that's what they would get.
      But if he knew, and was pushing for it, well, then you'd be wrong.
      While I don't like the women power stuff there, I like the series so far as you are.

      @@Lirky77 - Morgan has been pretty clear that their goal is to find Thrawn. That said, Baylan lived through the decline of the Old Republic and the Jedi Order. Indeed, half of his life has been spent avoiding the consequences of their failures. So he may see Thrawn as the means to establishing an effective galactic government. The New Republic is already becoming as bad as the Old, so why would Baylan support it? He probably thinks that Luke Skywalker is a naïve fool for trying.
      But, at the same time, Baylan is training Shin like a Jedi padawan, only without the emphasis on the Light. He may want to see the Jedi Order revived. But he would prefer that it be a strong faction in a strong Empire, not the minions of the Republic Senate like the old Jedi were.

    Orange was from the Old Republic era. And it was a natural color, like purple, that was in tune with the user. Kyber crystals are clear to start with. Don't change color until later. Some other crystals are various colors to start with. Colors are not defined by alignment. Because a number of Jed'aii and Jedi used red bladed sabers.

  • @aceofaces0007
    @aceofaces0007 Před 9 měsíci +4

    I think there's something that this video overlooks regarding the Orange Lightsabers, and that is the true nature behind what an orange crystal entails. Orange isn't just an adherence to both light and dark, but rather a different sense of darkness aimed towards a light-oriented objective. Instead of the selfish ambition that defines the Sith, who use red crystals, orange represents a sense of righteousness tainted by obsessive fury to the point where the ends justify the means, including the use of the Dark Side for what they believe to be a noble pursuit. This is evidenced in Jedi Survivor when we watch Dagan Gera bleed his crystal, pouring in his obsession with Tanalorr and the fury at being betrayed by the Jedi Order in what he believed to be a righteous endeavor.
    It stands to reason that Baylan & Shin share this sense of "righteous fury" and that they are not motivated by selfish desires, but rather by what they justify to be a noble goal, even if the means of achieving that goal involve embracing the Dark Side. Such opponents are certainly VERY dangerous because they have such a strong sense of conviction that what they're doing is right (much like Thanos in the MCU), and they may have circumstantial evidence to support their world views given the failures of the old Jedi Order, failures that they will not see repeated if their goal is to build up a new Jedi Order in their image, one that wields absolute power in a new Empire to be established by Thrawn, but power that is wielded in an almost benevolent fashion to protect the citizens of the galaxy, even if that entails dissolving freedom.

    So basically, they're not Jedi falling to the Dark, just force users who are more offensive and passionate than typical Jedi.
    They have a self-righteousness about them, but not so arrogant as to fully become greedy such as the Sith, or Dark Jedi falling more into corruption.
    So, you can go Purple or Orange if you wanna do you're own thing, but not fall to the Dark.

    Shin has a Padawan braid. So clearly Baylan has chosen to retain the Jedi Master/Padawan dynamic, rather than emulating the Sith. It seems likely that he wants a new (Dark) Jedi Order that isn't so specifically focused on the Light Side, but which still follows the same general set of principles as the old Jedi Order. That would explain his lack of aggression against others with connection to the Jedi. He will fight them as needed, but would probably prefer to recruit them into a new Order that is aligned with the Empire, rather than the New Republic.

      @@Jiron127 - It's debatable (and has been for decades) as to what, exactly, constitutes a "Grey" Jedi. It's not generally possible to wield both sides of the Force as your normal technique. Baylan and Shin clearly lean towards the Dark Side. They're just not as immersed in it as a Sith would be. Which is why they don't look like freaks.

    • @Taxisch
      @Taxisch Před 9 měsíci

      When Baylan fought Ahsoka you can clearly see his reluctance towards killing ahsoka. He only wanted to fight with her until the coordinates were done. When Ahsoka achieved to stop it he was pissed and went straight into action, because his plans were stopped. Ahsokas action against Hati then raged Baylan to finally kill her. So Baylan is pretty reluctant towards his opponents until his plan's are being stopped, just like in episode 1 in the hangar, when they just wanted to get morgan out without causing blood, but the admiral stopped this plan.

    • @daniels7907
      @daniels7907 Před 9 měsíci

      @@Taxisch - My sense is that Baylan wants to build his own Jedi Order, because honestly, why should he trust Luke Skywalker to do it? Was Luke raised in the old Order? No! That Shin wears a Padawan braid suggests that while Baylan acknowledges that they were not Jedi, he means that they are not Jedi of the sort that the old Order produced (i.e. not puppets of the Republic). Seeing the NR already showing signs of decay after just five years, Baylan may see Thrawn as a better ally for a (Dark) Jedi Order that could *impose* peace on recalcitrant systems who are proving how fragmented the NR already is.

      Well, we know they’re mercenaries now. And Baylan said that when Thrawn returns for some it will mean war, for others a new beginning…but for him and Shin: power.
      I think that they are trying to carve out a place in the galaxy for themselves, one where they needn’t fear being hunted by the Empire, or be beholden to the Republic. With an Empire that lacks Palpatine and is led by Thrawn, they could stand to gain influence and maybe start a new Order of their own.

    Baylin and Shin remind me of Dagan Gera from the new Jedi Survivor game. In the game we get to see a high republic jedi open his saber and in real time change the crystal from yellow to red and reassemble the saber. Cal Kestis has a more pure orange crystal but Baylan and Shins are noticeably more red. I think they definately have khyber krystals in their sabers but they seem like they used to be green crystals that were corrupted and still hold a portion of their original color. I imagine they want Baylan and Shin to be closer to the Bogan, my best guess is that they're something like 65% Sith, 35% Jedi. Floating between Dark Jedi and Sith.

    I think they're rogue Jedi Sentinels who broke with the Sentinels dogmatic opposition to the dark side after the Sentinels failed completely to detect and stop Sidious. Because Sentinels have such strong force of will they are able to encounter, and I think in Baylen's case (by extension his apprentice) even use the dark side without succumbing to it.
    Sentinels are known to fake their own deaths which would make it easy for them to avoid the purge. Perhaps Baylen deaires to fix the Sentinel's ultimate ball drop using the world between worlds but I think more likely, he realizes dogmatic clinging to light or dark is a recipe for failure.

He gives off a combination of dooku and Vader vibes, dooku on his overall posture and how he looks like dooku in a way and Vader on the way he fights. Two handed with a heavier saber than usual. And especially after learning they weren’t sith not even sith sympathiser just darker force users who follow their own path that was when I said damn finally this is exactly what i wanted. No more Jedi no more sith. Just people on their own paths colliding with each other. I was so hyped for today’s episode too hoping to see any scene of baylan. All I can say so I won’t spoil is when he appeared you could tell he is coming hard for them. Rip Ray Stevenson hope his last performance for the rest of this series remains as amazing as it already is if not even better

    He could have been a younger temple guard at the time. Remember the temple guards betrayed the jedi and let order 66 happen in a way because most of the temple guards became disillusioned with the jedi.. maybe instead of blaming the jedi order he just blamed the jedi of the times and escaped before or maybe during the mayhem of order 66. That would explain his abilities with the blade and the force. His new alignment could have caused a partial bleed to his saber and his padawan was probably specifically chosen for her alignment, also the way he sends his padawan on missions is more sith like. I can't wait to see the rest.. love your videos... this is the best place on youtube !

    I wonder how strong they will end up being?
    Shin toyed with Sabine after a bit of work and is notably still wearing a Padawons braid. But sensing Ahsoka coming? She looked terrified and beat it the hell out of there. Ahsoka would have enormously more experience, but she was never knighted. But, I get the feeling her capacity and skill in the force is vastly stronger. She was also about to end the Inquisitor as well too before he wisely fled.
    Baylan, if he is the superior one so far of them three....I dont like his chances in a fight now lol xD But seeing his respect for Ahsoka and his obvious attachment to other Jedi....I wonder if he may be convinced to turn.

      You’re technically right with Ashoka, but that’s only because she choose not to graduate and left the order. By the end of the clone wars she was one of the best duelist in the Galaxy and close to the start of the Galactic Civil War she was able to seriously harm Darth Vader (damn near killed him) aka a Sith Lord/Chosen One/her former master and strongest Jedi ever. So she’s a tier one duelist (not at the top level tier one like Mace, Anakin/Vader, Yoda, Sideous, etc but right below them). Balin better bring some serious power and skill to compete with her. That’s why his apprentice was so scared and retreated so quickly.
      Ahoska would be a master easily if she still was a official Jedi. I can’t wait to see the two former Jedi duel. I hope to see it on my O-led that time.

    I view Baylan and Shin as bad like Jango or Boba but not evil like the inquisitors or Darth Vader. They seem to have a father daughter bond as well as a master and apprentice. Shin seems to only trust Baylan(for now). Baylan seems to have honor but is willing to kill those who oppose him even if he doesn’t enjoy doing so.

    I think Baylan and Ashoka will turn out to be two sides of the same coin. They both shunned the Jedi but they haven't truly abandoned their former ways. Baylan's motivation to find Thrawn might go beyond just being a hired mercenary, I think he secretly wants to either kill Thrawn or control him for what he believes is the greater good. Him and Shin might end up teaming up with Ashoka and Sabine against Thrawn and Morgan, with him and Ashoka later dying.

Stating the two side of the force are they really one side or the other. There are those they that are on the side of the coin that walk both the light and the dark. Thy use light when it called for and dark when it called for. Luke does this in the Return of the Jedi. When he chokes the pig guard to death at Jabba's Palace. This I think Baylan and Shin would be considered Shadow. Not all in as the Jedi or the Sith. But straddle the line.

    The Orange Lightsaber represents, at least to me, a Jedi who is motivated by what they deem to be the Greater Good, and are willing to do whatever is necessary to achieve it, including killing. That is to say, they are self-righteous yet their motives are sincere in spite of the fact that they willingly touch upon the Dark Side, but do not seem to let it enslave them as do the Sith and Dark Side-affiliated followers of the Force
    The Purple Lightsaber, to me, indicates a Jedi who acknowledges their own darkness and even channel it to a degree yet they remain staunchly and rigidly in the Light. However, such a state of mind seems to imply a Jedi who would be arrogant and blind in other ways. Tho Mace Windu was a powerful and revered Jedi Master, he always seemed like, to me, an example of everything wrong with the Jedi Order up until the Great Jedi Purge
    So Orange and Purple seem to be reflections of each other with subtle but defining differences

    • @thalmoragent9344
      @thalmoragent9344 Před 9 měsíci +1

      I dunno, Purple doesn't mean you're arrogant, it means you've balanced yourself, and while you have strong emotions in combat, you're not gonna succumb to the Dark.
      Mace was definitely everything wrong with the Jedi, but his purple Lightsaber isn't any reflection of that

    • @okamireader5
      @okamireader5 Před 9 měsíci

      @@thalmoragent9344 I don’t mean to say that _every_ Jedi with a purple saber is inherently arrogant. Mace was known not only for his saber but also for his mastery of the lightsaber form of Vapaad, which requires the practitioner to channel the Dark Side w/o being drawn into it too deeply. More than once we’ve seen Mace express himself in ways that seemed arrogant to a degree or even questionable in regards to his position as a Jedi Master and as a member of the Jedi Council. Such as a self-assurance that the Jedi (and he) are in the right regardless of what or who says otherwise, and even when proven wrong, like the time when Ahsoka was exonerated after the Council expelled her, Mace, along with Yoda, Ki-Adi, and Saesee didn’t take responsibility for their actions against her nor did they apologize, instead shifting the blame onto the Force by saying “the Force works in mysterious ways” while their offer to reinstate her and promote her to Jedi Knight was clearly a bribe
      Baylan stated in “Ahsoka” that they (himself, his apprentice Shin, Morgan and even Marrok) seek a great power. Power is the thing that Sith live for and crave above all else. But Baylan and Shin are _not_ Sith nor have they fully immersed themselves into the Dark Side otherwise their lightsabers would bleed red instead of orange, which at least indicates they are motivated by a sincere righteousness in their goals yet are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve them out of what could possibly be a sense of “the greater good”. Some Sith claim some kind of self-righteous rhetoric for their goals but these are lies, both to others as well as to themselves, in a vain effort to disguise the fact that they seek power for the sake of power even if they start off with what they claim otherwise. Anakin sought power becuz originally he wanted the power to save others from death while Dooku wanted to end corruption in the Republic Senate and the Jedi Order, but in the end their true intentions and the natures of them were plain for all to see
      Altho we’ve only begun to see Baylan and Shin, so we’re just gonna have to wait and see how they turn out

    He seems to be a seeier, so he avoided order 66, he can see what happens if thrawn returns, he spoke as if he knew aniken and Vader or should say foresaw it. As a seeier he would spend most his time in the temple so yellow would be a reasonable color option. I don't think that he bleed his Saber nor do I think his apprentice would have a matching Saber color unless it's the crystal it self. I don't believe I. Coincidence so I'm guessing there is some thing special about their kyber crystals paired with their joined back story. Some thing they shared part in or collected specific kyber.
