      I recommend how to use 0w 40. Preferably Amsoil or Pennzoil Platinum. The tolerances are too tight for that thicker oil. Really, I'd recommend that oil is if you live in a really hot area and if you track it. Otherwise use 0w 40 I'm thinking about getting a aftermarket oil cooler.

    Hey man - sorry to hear about your ownership issues... downsides of buying used. But just thought I'd let you know, I've owned my E90 M3 new since 2009. 150k miles, and I've had 0 issues. I replaced my rod bearings for a piece of mind at 100k miles. In summary, 0 issues, 8 track days, 9 different exhaust set ups, 3 different tunes, beated on every single time and daily driven even in winter. I've been ready to buy another car for the past 6 years, but I can't find a replacement other than a 911 gt3. The M3 E9X is just another league when it comes to enjoyment and reliability.

    What a nightmare! I feel for you bro, I bought my 2013 550i xdrive a year ago and my rod bearings went and blew my engine totally up. As I write this my baby is in my local BMW dealership waiting to see if BMW is going to replace my engine. It was very very well taken care off in my possession. It only had two previous owners, one only had it for about a year because it had less than 10k miles on it the second owner drove it till about 65k. Its at about 82k rod bearings should last a life time with proper lubrication and clearance, but that's not the case with several of BMW'S engines. I love BMW but they need to own up to this problem! Good luck with your Beast of a car.

    Great insight, I'm sorry for the nightmare, I think all of what you experienced were factory related issues with early model cars, your 2008 car was the first model V8 M3 and it should have had such issues.
    Next time, target LCI 2 Models, which would be your 2010 M3, it's had nothing to do with the previous owner or even carmax, just early model issues. Good it's sorted and man, what a car.. ‼️

    I love the E90 M3. I would consider a 2010 or later. I used to have a couple of BMWs. I almost bought an E90 3:30. Part of me wishes I had. It seemed like a pretty good cars I didn't like the amount of room you had to work on them. It seems with every generation they make it harder and harder to work on. I had a E39 and the E46. Before I bought my Infinity I thought about getting an E46 convertible I think they're beautiful oh, pretty easy to work on. I also thought of a E60 530 or 535. Sadly the spark plugs on a G37 are not easy to get to. I'll probably let someone do it for me. I'm planning to keep my car a few more years and only has 205k on it. Infiniti has been nice they offered a free synthetic oil change. Now they're offering a free cabin air filter installed. I miss the ease of working on my E39. I didn't do that much. But I suspect that if I had watched some CZcams videos I could have done a lot more. My E39 528i was pretty reliable. How to round a hundred K I had to replace the oil separator and the valve cover gasket. Round 160 k I have the cooling system replaced. Hi never lost oil. But around 220,000. The oil pan gasket started leaking and the plastic valve cover developed the crack. I did have to get exhaust manifold welded once. I suspected it sprung another leak and it wasn't going to smog so instead of fixing I bought my Infiniti

    • @Freestyler4130
      @Freestyler4130 Před 3 lety

      Czechbound i dont think a PPI can “see” rod bearing wear. Oil analysis maybe.. but with aluminum bearings on the newer ones theres no way to tell with an oil analysis. Oil analysis looks for copper in the oil, but aluminum ones dont have that so they just detect aluminum which is normal to have some in the oil.

    😭😭😭
    Also whenever you have aftermarket warranties they don’t pay for tear down until there is confirmation of failure. So with your rod bearings they were going to pay for it from the get, but you have to say I approve whatever tear down is needed to confirm the cause of failure.
    They also don’t pay for wear items like crutches and brakes. Some will actually pay for brakes if the brake wear sensor is “broken.”

    I’ll stick with my 1996 E36 with 173,000 miles. It’s very reliable.

    Just because your E90 had 40k miles doesn't mean you're immune from rod bearing issues. They have failed on these cars with half that mileage. How did CarMax do you dirty and do you know the definition of what a lemon is? CarMax paid out 25 grand to your local BMW dealership, it was the BMW dealership of your choice to have it fixed at that was incompetent. A clutch is a wear and tear item, of course any warranty won't cover wear and tear just like they won't cover tires, batteries, belts, etc. The reason why your clutch job was more expensive was that you had an 08, they needed to change your flywheel as well to a dual-mass from an LCI. $4,000 is ridiculous since they already had the engine separated from the transmission they shouldn't have charged you the full rate. The right thing to do (after getting already paid $25,000 from CarMax) was to just charge you the parts, sounds like the BMW dealership you chose was milking you good. Sounds like you should have done more research on this platform before buying one just because it was your "dream" car. Having bad credit and getting financed for a $36,000 car at 10.95? You should have thanked your lucky stars that CarMax was willing to finance you at all in the first place instead of bad mouthing them when every other placed turned you down. Just be glad you didn't get 28-30 percent APR at some other shady dealership. Sounds to me like CarMax was the one who got screwed in this deal, sold you a car for 36k and paid out 25k for a new engine, your BMW dealership was laughing all the way to the bank and couldn't even fix your car right, then charged you another $4k for a clutch job when they already had everything apart. The real crooks here are the BMW stealership.

    NEVER EVER EVER EVER take a BMW ///M Car to the stealership for any repairs. In SoCal EAS and AutoTalent Indie Shops have vast experience with BMW ///M cars. Since you have a notorious 2008 E90 M3 (first year), sell it ASAP. Only get a 2011-2013 BMW E9X M3 Competition Package car with less than 60k miles. Almost all German Sports cars have a major flaw that will cost anywhere from $3000 - $25,000 to fix.
    These cars are not daily drivers. They are toys for the weekend. Get a beater for work as your daily driver. They are like a Mistress $$$$$$.
