As much as i think Sprout should still be punished for his crimes, i would also hope that they give him a redemption arc i think it would be a good way to develop his character sure it would basically just be another Sunset Shimmer/Starlight Glimmer situation, but i for one would like to see how far Sprout would come while going down that path.

Sprout is my favourite character of the movie. I wouldn't say that he was spoiled. More like his issues were so long ignored by his mother that he started to ignore them too. Whenever he wanted to have a deeper conversation she ditched him (just like at the end of the movie). And he didn't seem to "always" want to be in charge either. He just wanted some respect. He wanted to be praised for what he does, but well, Hitch developed a hero-sidekick relationship with him and not a friends/coworkers (and let's not ignore that Hitch is a bit of a narcissist himself, I mean for some reason making a callendar with his own sexy photos and hanging it in the office disturbs me more than making a giant robot in one's image and calling himself an emperor xD) Notice how he goes out of his way to keep up to Sunny at the beginning of the movie and after raporting to Hitch doesn't get as much as "okay good job" but he is not angry about it. He doesn't react at all. He is used to it. Only when ponies tell him off to his face does he have a reaction (like when Hitch left to look for Sunny, Sprout wasn't mad at him for going on a solo mission, he was smiling, untill Hitch told him straight away how little he thinks of him, that's when his mood dropped). His mother also doesn't seem to care about his feelings, only his success, like a beauty-contest mum. In a "Don't be sad you are handsome" and not "Why are you sad? Can we fix it?" way. He tried to calm the town Hitch's way but ponies disregarded him, and said that "they want the real sherriff" only after beeing disregarded twice he switched from doing what he saw Hitch do to doing what he saw his mother do - from calming to controlling the fear. Both Hitch and his mother were ponies he looked up to and in a way lived in a shadow of. He tried to do the same things he believed gained those ponies respect and love of the citizens. Let's not act like everypony in the town was innocent and only he was in the wrong here. He did came up to the ponies who put the frame together right before the magic kicked in and stood beside the pegasi queen and not his mum. He had his ears forward, he was listening to Sunny. Not to mention that pegasi and unicorns were called a threat because they had magic, how will he react to finding the earth pony magic?
I just really hope that the series won't make him a slice of life vilalin or just SOURCE of conflict but also a victim of it. (like each episode of Discord did :/ Where it was always him messing up and never others messing up around him) Or worse, that they will make him a punching bag for the "look how pathetic he is haha, doesn't he deserves it?!" jokes.
I mean after the stunt he provided, he might be outcasted by the town. He is now alone I fear, and that could be a great lesson about consequences of once's actions but also about blaming somepony. Earth ponies using him as an escape goat? That could be a powerfull lesson. When we see that he is just as much of a victim as everypony else. That there are no better or worse ponies. Just some failing more spectacularrly. I just want him to be eager to learn and change, and other ponies to help him too, not only out of "WE ARE THE GOOD GUYS" but just out of care for him. Like, Sunny and Hitch used to be his foalhood friends, I want to have stories focusing on that too.
But maybe I just want to much and read too deep.

Also him having his own unicorn / pegasus friend or maybe even a romantic interest could be a heck of a fun idea. Like, him meeting this pony's parents and experiencing the "earth pony" stereotypes. And it would be also easier to see him progress towards open-mindnessness than with the mane 5 as they would not have a direct backstory with eachother, not to mention the "taking your childhood friends from you" stigma. And it could be cute, especially if at first he didn't know that they are a uniucorn/pegasus, maybe because them meeting online or something. And making him realise that it surelly does not matter at all in the end.

Isn't he has the same colour scheme as Big Mac and also look at his mother !!! Isn't the colour of her mane is the same as Big Mac and her skin is the same colour as Sugarbelle ?? I am just wondering if Sprout was a descendent of Big Mac and Sugarbelle. I am also wondering if he's gonna became one in the series as part of his redemption arc ? Maybe he's always a failure because he's trying to be a law enforcer eventhough his cutie mark does not reflect that and is a turnip (it's a turnip right ??). Maybe he's trying to be a law enforcer because he's trying to copy his ever popular friends, Hitch, but instead unsuccesfull. I'm not sure how much they'll be able to keep Sprout afraid of non earth ponies. I mean in the ending of the movie, the crystals didn't light up until Sprout joined the other ponies standing around Argyle's picture. Keeping him scared of non earth ponies feels like beating a dead horse at this point. Unless they play it for cutes. Imagine Izzy wanting to be friends with him but he keeps running away because he's scared of unicorns.
People forget that Sprout is also Sunny and Hitch's childhood friend. If he starts hanging out with them and the other characters, its not gonna look strange. I bet Hitch deputised him because he felt bad becoming sheriff when it was Sprout's childhood dream to be sheriff.
Sprout was obsessed at being sheriff but he's not good at it. What is his real talent? Why does he want to be sheriff so badly? Does he know his real talent but turned his back on it? Or maybe he doesn't even know what he's good at. I think these are the questions that Sprout would tackle in the series.

I think he wanted to be Sheriff due to that being the top position in the police force, and thinking he would be cool. And we all know how his mother is, and she probably highly encouraged him to reach for that goal because she wanted her child to be super successful, even if he didn't really want it that badly originally. So it just ended up with him thinking he had to become the sheriff, when he really didn't. At least, that's my theory :)

I can imagine having a mom who believes propaganda and no father to teach him right or wrong, I wouldn’t be surprised if sprout has daddy issues

Sprout and Hitch are childhood friends. I bet it was Hitch that made him deputy because he felt bad when he became sheriff. Sprout's childhood dream was to be sheriff and Hitch must have accidentally taken it away from his childhood friend.
I'm guessing its going to be Izzy that helps Sprout become a better pony. Izzy has this power to see a pony's luminessence. She might help Sprout discover his true calling in life like how the cmcs helped Diamond Tiara. Because whatever it is that Sprout is good at, its not being sheriff.

I noticed something about Sprout. When Hitch asks him to help him catch Izzy and Sunny, he makes excuses. When he leaves, Sprout shows envy for Hitch, and that he deserves the same respect. He then takes power by creating fear, rather than helping others like Hitch. He also shows to be controlled by the fear the ponies show when they come for him for help, as much as he control them with it.
Sprout, if he get an arc, should learn to become responsible, and learn to be humble. Maybe it could be something to do like help the other tribes, or like someone in the comments suggested, he meets someone of a different tribe with the same views as him. Maybe his arc can also mirror the deradicalization process xenophobic people go through when they become better people, with him forming a group which help the tribes learn about each other and become less fearful at the end.

I'm not sure if Sprout continuing to be Hitch's sidekick in the same way he was in the film would actually be healthy for his well-being to be honest. Hitch has the tendency to be condescending to Sprout, granted it is with merit, but that environment may hinder Sprout from conquering his insecurities of feeling inferior to anybody, especially that he technically cannot always accomplish Hitch's expectations of him as an effective partner in law enforcement.

    • @PokemonkaDub

Hitch has some narcissistic tendences too and that seem to be part of Sprout's problem. I mean he did hang a callendar filled with his own sexy photos in the office. This is not healthy to anyone xD
Remember when Sprout went out of his way to chase Sunny over town because Hitch told him to? He didn't even got a "thank you" or a "good job" or even "well you could've used some wheels as well". And judging by the way Sprout reacted... it wasn't the first time his efforts meant nothing to Hitch in the end.

@@PokemonkaDub I know right?! 😅 Hitch only gave Sprout a stare down once he caught up with them so exhausted, but Sprout shrugged that off. Besides, he's a deputy, as he would likely say. But I can only imagine he got so used to pretending that whatever Hitch has done to him never stings . . . but it does.
When Hitch later gave Sprout an assignment to stay in Maretime Bay to be the town's temporary peacekeeper, he first gave off a tone where he genuinely trusts Sprout that he can handle it, but Hitch quickly twists his tone 180 cause all of that was just his way of expressing his displeasure to Sprout when he turned down his request to join him chase down Sunny. Hitch even has the audacity to slam those doors in front of him. No wonder Sprout started ripping calendars and kicking shelves immediately right after. That must have hurt!
To think Sprout was initially delighted when Hitch gave that peacekeeping assignment before he decided to twist his tone. 🤔

But yes, imagine working with someone so full of himself and playing a hero all the time. They are suppose to be coworkers / partners /friends. Yes, Hitch is the superiour but he seems to be playing it off more like beeing a hero and his little sidekick. And everypony just praise him and clap their hooves while you barely can catch a breath in the back... in the shadow... and Sprout is aware of his weaknesses, like he knows he is not good in so many things but still feels injustice in the way he's treated and I can't blame him. He doesn't seem to be jelaous of the responsybility or the title of sheriff, he is proud to trott alongside Hitch as a deputy, as a support but he wants to be treated good too. I think that a good word here ant there wouldn't kill Hitch and also would build some self-esteem in Sprout too. And maybe make him less of a coward because he would know that maybe he CAN win in some situations which would mean he is not in constant danger. Everypony always ignores Sprout, no matter if he tries his hardest or not at all (like citizens when he tried to calm them down) So why bother? Why be brave? Why try at all? He can just be in the back right? But it does still sting in the end...

@@PokemonkaDub Man, Sprout truly needs redemption 😭 This is truly an interesting case because . . . it's not like Sprout and Hitch first met in the office. They were childhood buddies. So whenever Hitch fires a bullet of mistreatment, Sprout will get hit harder and deeper. And of course Sprout never resigned his position even after all that because it's cool to be working with a friend.
I believe you that Sprout may not have been jealous when Hitch became the sheriff instead of him . . . at first. It's sad that because of their positions of responsibility, their friendship suffered, losing reasons to see each other eye to eye as equals.
This gets even more complicated because Hitch has his reasons of being right. Sprout can be incompetent, and he doesn't want to deal with it. I bet Hitch started to lose respect for Sprout because he's just oblivious from seeing that Sprout was actually trying. But Hitch's condescending attitude rubs Sprout the wrong way and it makes matters worse for both of them.
This is why I don't want Hitch and Sprout to be partners like this in the series, until both of them start to settle these complicated issues that has been left unaddressed and has caused a lot of damages between the two of them for who knows how long. 🤔

    • @PokemonkaDub

@@BuizelCream I feel like Hitch doesn't see Sprout trygin because unlike him, Sprout does not always succeed and Hitch just can't seem to not judge others by his own standards of picture perfect. He sees his friend more like a burden, a stain on a GREAT SHERIFF'S image. But he's just like Phyliss in the way of not adressing the issues. Sprout's mother is just like "Oh, don't be sad, you are awesome" istead of asking "Why are you sad, how can we fix it?" So Sprout ends up feeling like it's something wrong with him THAT he is sad or angry. And it's a small but very significant difference. He feels he doesn't fit the picture his mother is painting of him in her words (as a trained salesmare) so he goes super overboard whenever he has a glimpse of control, of respect.
They never wanted to listen, but now finally he has means to MAKE THEM listen. And also let's not forget that he still believed he was doing the right thing, protecting the town, beeing a hero just like Hitch. Desperate times, desperate measures. He truly believed that giving the magic back to unicorns and pegasi would bring destruction to his home. He was blinded by that idea, yes, but let's not pretend like other ponies weren't.

Hopefully the series works with him on being about half (or more) as less judgmental and bigoted. Maybe they’ll eventually have him either join the group or form friendships with other ponies from the other tribes. It’d also be nice to see him eventually admit and do things far more independently and see that not everything that his mother did and believed about the other races was true. I’d also like to see them address some of the jealousy and friendship issues that he has with Hitch. For all we know, maybe Phyllis really approved of Hitch and might’ve even occasionally used him as an example for or to Sprout.

    Zipp is Rainbow Dash

DT was tolerable because she always got some sort of karmic justice at the end of each antagonistic appearance, from being put in her place by her dad to losing her chance to represent Equestria in the Friendship Games. Sprout got NOTHING!! That is my sticking point with him.
However, there is something else we are forgetting. Canter-Logic itself. With the advent of magic, their entire business is now at best obsolete, and at worse (and far mor likely imo) ineffective. If Phyllis is as good a business mare as she appears, she will likely try and steer her company and the entire fear based culture towards friendship between the races, which would require some R&D. I can see Sprout either throwing or being the wrench in whatever new project the company decides to take on, which would drive revenue down, furthering his grudge against the other races, spurring more wrench throwing. This cycle will continue until Phyllis has enough, tears into him and cuts him off. This would force him to reflect and eventually come around.

  • @Galimeer5
    @Galimeer5 Před 2 lety +4

If they take the G4 route, he'll probably get a redemption in an episode, maybe an aftermath/follow up later, and probably stay a side character for the rest of the series.
I think that's actually one of FIM's weaknesses; the show often didn't give enough time to have things properly develop. Granted, animation is hard and the staff had to crank out 22 minutes a week, which I can only imagine is nightmarish, but if you look at all the villians who got reformed, you can pick out a single episode where it happened. Luna, Discord, Starlight, and even lesser antagonists like Diamond Tiara and the changelings -- they all had one moment where everything changed and now they're good. It even extended to EQG with characters like Juniper, Sci-Twi, and Gloriosa.
If they decide to reform and redeem Sprout, I hope they do what they did with Sunset Shimmer: her evil scheme was thwarted and she was punished for her actions (perhaps not as harshly as she should've been but the justice system is pretty lenient on minors regardless of crime...also it's a kids' show). But even after that, she didn't just get a free pass and was good. During Rainbow Rocks, everyone was overtly hostile to her, despite her best efforts to make up for what she did. It wasn't until the end of that movie, when she was instrumental in the defeat of the sirens -- villains who were, ironically, going to do what she tried but much more effectively and on a wider scale -- that Sunset was properly redeemed. Rainbow Rocks was an entire movie dedicated to Sunset's redemption, and because it was handled so well, Sunset Shimmer is ranked among the fan favorites and is widely considered to be the best thing that came out of the entire spinoff series.
G5 could learn a thing or two from Equestria Girls.

    Possible theory : The Revolution
    - The future ruler of the empire pulled a Nicholas II
    - Caused a war that could be the cataclysm for the disappearance of all magic
    - Causing the break of harmony between all three tribes
    - It may also cause racism among all
    accused of
    - Also the same for unicorns and pegasus
    - The unicorns could've lost or be propaganda of being the direct cause of the lost of magic being aided by the pegasuses to the earth ponies and vice versa to the pegasuses
    - This caused the crystal imperial family and or everyone of the crystal empire being massacred or fled to hide either with the yacks, changelings, hippogryphs,Griffons or dragons trying to ask for aid or help
-But one of the 5 species could have said no but are happy to give them refuge.
Conclusion: The Imperial crystal family or future descendants of the family were living comfortable lives as self-exiled royals as well as the aristocratic crystal unicorns that are useless without magic but could have in one point in the timeline of gen 5 repopulated the crystal city therefore meaning the crystal ponies maybe would have remembered the old days of mane 6 and became a monarchist society of historical preservationists trying to keep old traditions of during the era of mane 6 alive and could have be rebuilding the empire because of revival of magic after the events of the film.

If this movie gains a TV series (with the 2D animation style), I can imagine Sprout slowly (and I mean "s l o w l y") maturing enough to be open-minded. Baby steps. I mean, just because he's accepting to Unicorns and Pegasi, it doesn't mean he'll automatically be accepting to other species.
Sprout's encounter with Sirens: They're evil because they can hypnotize you by singing!
Sprout's encounter with Kirins: They're evil because their honesty will hurt ponies' feelings and could trigger other species!
Sprout's encounter with Thestrals (I assume): They're evil because they eat meat... it could be pony flesh!
An actual Thestral: --_-- Um, not all Thestrals eat pony flesh. Although, there are some in special covens...
The Kirin (in question) could take a vow of silence. Both out of respect and will choose to not speak until all of this "blind hatred" is finally put to rest.
The Sirens could be reincarnations of the Dazzlings, and they feel like their ancestors' wrongdoings are their "responsibility now"; to symbolize real people "sharing the burden(s)" of their ancestors.

Here's what I think that what's next for Sprout The first season of the new series has Sprout being a vetitive, predigest, vengeful, and funny bully antagonist (for the first half) until the second half has him meeting the real villain of the first season. Borrowing the idea from Tirak he or she will acted like Sprout's friend understanding his problems and needs while at the same acting like a little Devil on his shoulder telling him what to do to get what he wants while no knowing he's fulfilling the villain's main evil plan. When things seem to go his way for once the villain pulls a backstabbing heel turn that thanks to him the villain completes the plan and see him as deadweight now. With Sprout finally getting the hint his so called friend was no good and his real friends from his childhood was Hitch and Sunny and fixing their broken friendship, stops the main villain's plan, and Sprout becoming the 6th member of the group. By the second season starts his slow build redemption ark and having him being the new Sunset Shimmer with everyone can't standing him while still hating him for what he did the last season. The whole season has him fixing the broken relationship with his mom, making amends for the ponies he hurt, and slowly earning some respect with some of the ponies of his town while still learning lessons. At the season 2 final either the villain returns or a new one shows up his ark will be complete when he does something to make him a hero and fully forgiven for his past actions.

here's the thing: he's not really a villain. he's just a misguided, insecure mama's boy who was raised by a xenophobic mare and became a victim of circumstance. sure, he went way too far with turning into the pony version of Kim Jong-Un at the end, but his motivations didn't really scream "evil". 'cause at the end of the day, all he wanted was for his people to be safe since he still saw the other tribes as threats. he just did it the wrong way

okay, i decided to rework my original comment to say what I'm actually hoping for the writers to do with Sprout in the show:
    1) I hope he does time in jail for his crimes. I'm kinda getting sick and tired of seeing so many animated movies or TV shows just letting their villains/antagonists get off the hook scott-free, despite putting the lives of so many innocent people in danger because of their delusional way of thinking. they committed serious crimes, they should be locked up! so I'm hoping we get to see Sprout behind bars, serving his time and actually changing for the better before he's eventually let out into the public again. i mean, for real: I know he's Hitch's best friend and all, but there's no way Hitch is THAT forgiving, especially when Sprout got so close to actually KILLING Sunny.
    2) when he eventually does get let outta jail, I'm hoping for him to have a redemption arc throughout the show where he reflects on his actions, comes to terms with what he did wrong in the movie, and try to prove to everypony in Maretime Bay that he's learning and changing for the better. who knows? he can even end up being the earth pony version of Starlight Glimmer for all we know, but if it does happen, then I really hope it's handled well. i also wanna see what his relationship with Phyllis is like now, and how they'll fix it.

  • @ShadyRK9
    @ShadyRK9 Před 2 lety +1

Maybe they'll reform him and he'll join the crew? Idk but it's gonna be hard for Sprout to learn seeing how that's what he's been taught for most of his life from his mother. It'd be very interesting if Phyllis actually learns from her mistakes and accept the changes while Sprout doesn't, starts questioning if all that she tought him was a lie and causing some sort or dynamic feud between the 2! 👀

A major threat would be a magic user cursing marine time bay, an army of robot ponies, a demonic overlord, rampaging giant, power hungry king or at least a jealous pony who wants to fool the mane 5's plans. Any villain they want I don't care as long as it's dark, menacing, helps build up to epic showdowns, and lots of conflict for Sunny

He was not much of a friend to Sunny. It's likely that Sprout will be stubborn and continue to cling on to his failing traditions from saying mean things about the unicorns and pegasi to trying so hard to trap them challenged only by their magic and flight. No doubt he still hungers for leadership without knowing the responsibility. I find Sprout a lot more likeable than the elitist Diamond Tiara (should shortened to Diara) and a lot less annoying. The last thing Hitch would ever want to do to him is clap him in jail. He may need to learn to be independent from his mother. So many lessons to be learned.

I am glad the movie makers stopped short of dressing the angry mob in white robes with pointed hoods, it seemed they were building up to that when the ponies were marching around wearing the mind shield helmets with the sticks on top. Still, Sprout, if he is used right, will be the character to demonstrate how fear and ignorance, combined with emotional thinking at the expense of logical thinking, can twist your take on reality to the point where you see things all wrong, but genuinely believe your perception is all right. History is full of people, great and small, who did horrible things believing they had to, "for the good of all". I don't believe he is knowingly evil, he just doesn't see that he's wrong, and Phyllis, his mother, having similar beliefs, sets up the potential for discussing how things can get passed down from one generation to the next, along with the lesson that you really do need to research all sides of an issue before making up your mind.
