To give two other composers their due -Handel elaborated on a tune by his rival Bononcini who in turn based his version on a yet earlier composer (Venetian) called Cavalli all about an ancient Iranian monarch's admiration for a plane tree -"Ombra mai fu."
According to what I've read, the tune was the king giving thanks to the plane tree for its shade. He was supposed to be a powerful king, yet grounded enough to realise that even a humble tree could be more important than he was.

I miss playing trumpet. I was really good, but got out of high school and left it. I had a weird embouchure, but still had great sound and technique. Then braces came along and it was over. There's my story. Lol... this guy is fantastic. Love the sound and tone.

The organ sings with a sweet, high voice, followed by the trumpet whose notes are nonetheless clear and resonant. When I first heard this, my tears were falling fast and I couldn't turn them off.

I think this single piece of music is the greatest ever written, surpassing all, even Beethoven. After all ,was it not Beethoven himself that said that Handel was the greatest composer whoever lived? It is the one piece I listen to more than any other. And l love all the great classical composers. John D Johnston.
I don't know about the greatest, but it's certainly up there with the greatest. Personally, I'd put Hymn of the Cherebim at the top of the list, but that's just my personal taste.
