I count myself blessed to have heard this superb music played by a Maestro. I suspect that - although he plays lots of other types of music - that classical is his first love.
This is the most relaxing composition I have ever heard. I listen to it often because of its calming effect. Better than any medicine. It just brings you down. Down from all the anxiety, stress and tension in our modern world. How appropriate that it is about a shade tree.

I love this opera and this particular aria from it, especially sung by a talented counter tenor. I never dreamed I could ever love any other version; but now I have discovered this particular genius of a cellist, and I am converted. Cannot stop playing it, while all my recordings of counter tenors, wait in the wings. Glorious glorious music! I am in heaven. Handel would be proud. Thank you Stjepan Hauser.

We are so fortunate that this wonderful man takes the time to post these magical moments for us during this difficult time. However if the virus wasn’t here perhaps he would have been too busy with his tours etc that he may not have been able to post many. A real blessing given during this time of isolation for so many.💕🎉🙏

I don't want to seem negative, but i must politely disagree. The recording is highly perverted with modern technology. If you have ever heard a cello in real life you will know that what you are hearing here is a highly processed sound, which in my opinion is widely unnecessary. The guy already plays well, and doesn't need the cheap addition of special effects to hide mistakes. To hear an truly virgin recording, you must look back in time to the days before sound engineers decided that instruments don't sound good enough as they are. In fact I was just listening to an old Mischa Maisky recording of Haydn C. Just pure untampered sound.
The performance is lovely, but not left pure. Not Hauser's fault, of course, unless he specifically asked for unnatural reverb and bass suitable for a nightclub.
So waddya say, Hauser?
adsertheblade not so sure....I'm a cellist of 40 years. It's entirely possible to play this well WITHOUT modern technology. Check out the Maurice Gendron version here on YT. Recorded in 1960 and every bit as sublime, if not more, since Gendron employs the treble register in the last half of the piece.
