Sorry for the late upload! CZcams didn't want to process anything today! We finally learned how Marty and Rust took down Reggie! So much more to uncover, we can't wait!
Thank you for all the support!
pls put on your chanel the option to see the videos in order of last reles...i only see popular upload
"What's that, Nietzsche? Shut the fuck up"
Is one of my favorite lines of all time lol
Agreed but I'm almost certain he says "Listen, Nietzsche..."
What's funny to me is rust also reads Nietzsche. The book Marty is reading in the car is rusts copy of Thus Spake
Especially coming from Rust, who has basically already been told to shut the fuck up quoting Nietzsche to Marty.
@@johnnydoe001 No, it is in the script: "What's that, Nietzsche? Shut the fuck up." He is saying that not because the man is philosophizing or acting like a philosopher, but because he's referencing the idea of eternal recurrence that Nietzsche popularized. Rust later on even this episode himself references eternal recurrence.
It drives me insane that he says it wrong, though. It isn’t Neat-Chee. It is Neat-Cha. Easiest way to remember is the rhyme “nice to meet ya, Friedrich Nietzsche (neat-cha). The only person I’ve ever heard say it correctly is Steve Carell in Little Miss Sunshine.
I fucking love this episode. For all their differences, they’re still partners, & that staged shootout clutch moment is when they straight up have each other’s backs 100% to get the job done. It’s so sick!
“I’m glad to see you commit to something” Rust to Marty
Not that he didn't have it coming, but the whole thing blows a hole through the very notion of justice that grants the police and the state their monopoly on violence. If either of them were as noble as they pretended to be, they would have turned themselves in for murdering a suspect. But, who cares about that, right?
The 2nd daughter of Marty looked familiar because she was in The Walking Dead -- she's the little girl (Lizzie?) that was kinda crazy and believed that walkers were "alive". Carol had the girl "look at the flowers".
Oo yes! I remember that scene!
She's Annie in The Boys.
shes the older daughter@@manugibert7355
You get to episode 4, and you're like - they can't maintain this kinda of quality. Then comes episode 5... and 6... and 7... and 8.
Time is a flat circle - a bit like a camera lens. Marty and Rust will do this again. Every time someone watches or rewatches the show, they will be back, seeing what's in that trailer. Such brilliant writing and direction. I won't say anything about the final shot in this episode until we're done.
I lived in Lafayette, LA before this series premiered and knowing exactly where the locations of all the crime scenes were lent a special air to the show. You had to keep reminding yourself what was real and what was not. It gave the show a kind of a creepy and very eerie air.
I'm sure most of the stories were just that... stories. But living in Southern LA, a stones throw from a handful of swamps, who knows what happened back there.
Yeah, any area that has lots of rural land is always a bit creepy. You realize that anything could happen out there & no one would ever know a thing. So many people have just disappeared without a trace, it’s gets you thinking.
Something deep…and dark.
The name of one of the officers who took the prisoner to talk to his lawyer is Childress... A name to remember :D
Easily missed but really rewarding when spotted while rewatching. It gives the viewer a better imagination of how well connected and therefore protected the people responsible actually are. Truly terrifying...
Yeah upon re-watching this season of the show, it’s little details like the officers last name being Childress that remind me of how freakin epic a show True Detective is. It was all I could talk about with friends for days the first time I watched it in its entirety. Everyone in this HBO production pulled out all the stops without a doubt. I enjoyed the 2nd season also, but the 1st was top notch entertainment.
My wife and I happened upon this show on HBO GO back a few years ago and decided to give it a chance. We legitimately got so hooked that we stayed up til 4AM to watch the whole first season. One of my favorite shows ever. This and Breaking Bad are my top two.
@@John57945 that is a great damn show. Still need to get caught up though
This show is probably in my top 3 of all time. The soundtracks are great, the casting is on point, the acting is outstanding especially Rust and the storyline is just exceptional. 9.5/10
agree. For me the other 2 are 'The Sopranos" and "Dark" :P
@@lucabaracuda987 Literally was going to say this and Dark, haha.

The whole series has had that wonderful connection!
You guys are great. You know exactly when to comment while not interrupting the dialogue. Ask the right questions, etc. Nicely done.
🤠 I stayed up past my bedtime and waited to watch this, lol. 😴
Shoot! Well I hope you enjoy and then get a good nights rest still!

The tiara scene really is one of the most meaningful scene I personally have ever scene in any type of movie/series.
It's so damn well thought, filmed and relatable.
You guys uploading a new video gets me more pumped than most of the TV shows I watch. It's fun (re)watching theses shows with you, and your post-episode analysis & predictions are always entertaining. Keep doing what you do, you're doing great!
Dang that’s awesome! We will definitely keep going and so thankful for the support and kind words!
I concur!
The pessimistic aesthetic of TD permeates the very fabric of the show. The uneasy feeling of dread is palpable in nearly every scene.
While I don't believe that anyone actually believes that Rust is the killer, I think it is really interesting how the show really does a good job of making every scene, so far, able to be explained in that light.
Can you just binge the last episodes? I’m enjoying your reaction to this series so much I can’t wait. I’d forgotten just how amazing this season is and the show as a whole. Great writing with incredible characters and amazing performances.
I love your analysis and reaction. You two never disappoint! 💕
Awesome! Thank you so much for the support!
you two are my favorites. so smart, and collaborative. wonderfully balanced in your perspectives, anticipations, and predictions. just fun. i watch your other shows' reactions. keep it up!
The scene with Rust near the end of Episode 1, at the first crime scene. ------- The killer wanted to be seen by people. ------ The spiral nest is an amazing prop for the show. ------ It was not part of the first crime scene, it appears to be new. Meaning the killer came back and left that creepy-looking thing there. -------- Many perpetrators often visit old crime scenes to relive events and get the rush without having to commit a murder. --------- Truly sick individuals.
I think it goes deeper than that. Ledoux told Rust "You're in carcosa with me, he sees you". I think the yellow king leaves it there specifically for Rust.
@@mechanoid2k love that insight. Thanks
@@lethaldose2000 You're welcome. It also just occurred to me that when Rust and Marty find where the killer/yellow king lives with his sister at the very end. Marty asks her if he can use her phone, he also asks her about the yellow king and she says "He's all around us".
Marty executes a pedo/murderer and Rust fakes the crime scene immediately. Well sorry but I am totally fine with that.
This is probably one of the greatest series of television ever made. Really wish I could watch it for the first time again. Glad you're enjoying it.
The reaction by Sam and TBR to Ledoux getting executed by Marty and his partner getting blown up is next level intense.-------- Such great reactions and post video analysis. -------- I can't wait till the next episode and the fight between Rust and Marty.
6:39 Homemade "Bouncing Bettys". Basically spring loaded so when triggered they fly into the air causing maximum damage.
It's good to see Samantha agree with my opinion of episode 4. Possibly the best piece of television I've ever seen. This series, all seasons of Homeland, are the best I've ever seen. Although I haven't seen Breaking Bad, I'm sure that would have to be included based on opinions of everyone who has seen it.
You have to watch Breaking Bad!
A huge portion of mines pop up to waist level to cause maximum damage. You can see the mine in the air if you stop it at the right time.
"Look at the flowers" That might remind you of where you saw the other daughter.
You guys would absolutely love Black Sails if you havent already watched it. Youre eye for character traits and great analysis would make that a very enjoyable reaction. Its also simultaneously one of the most underrated and best written shows of the last 10 years.
Fuck yeah! Make it happen!
Black sails is not one of the best written shows lmao. It's on par with the walking dead.
@@clownbaby6882 That's the most ridiculous statement I've heard all year.
The greatest mystery of "True Detective"......What happened to Ginger? Is he still tied up in a ditch?
You guys are killing me or I guess CZcams is in this case. As Tom Petty said, "the waiting is the hardest part."
I'm beginning to feel like my life has some weird connection to these videos. You may recall me saying that last Tuesday was a terrible day for me, made better by getting to watch the video that night. Part of what made it a terrible day was a medical issue. Nothing life threatening or anything, but painful and annoying. Well, after a trip to the ER, I was set up with an appointment with a specialist on... Friday. The specialist put me on a schedule of getting treatments on, you guessed it, Tuesdays and Fridays.
So, it's a specialist and then the Schmitts for the next few Tuesdays and Fridays, LOL.
All of which is my long winded way of saying how much I'm loving these videos and enjoying the Schmitt's reactions and commentary. Thanks so much, guys!
If this wasn't already too long, I'd tell you about catching a man mowing my lawn last Friday. Not making that up! Anyway, sorry for the length of this.
loving this upload schedule, perfect timing for beddy-bye 👏
while you guys have an hbo subscription, you should watch The Outsider, Mare of Easttown, and of course, Game Of Thrones
I always have a hard time recommending GoT anymore, such a great show, that ended on a wet fart of disappointment.
The Outsider would be great! No one is reacting to it.
Haha that’s great! I’m glad we can provide some good pre-bed content! Thanks for the recommendations! We have seen GoT! But not the others I believe!
@@TBRSchmitt Mare of Easttown is excellent, can whole-heartedly recommend! It's also only 7 episodes, so not a show that drags out.
I'll also join in the recommending of The Outsider and Mare of Easttown, not only great shows with plenty of mystery but perfect reaction fodder too.
Big influence of Lovecraft's universe (the Yellow King ; Carcosa, ...)
Should credit Chambers first, but Lovecraft did incorporate it into his mythos.
👏 hey👏 everyone👏 welcome 👏back👏to👏the👏 channel👏
nice catch recognizing Annie!
Like they had to leave the bureauracy or local administration to truly seek the truth unfettered. This is sweet season of a show. Can't recommend it enough
Yes that's her from the boys and the younger girl is the "meet the flowers" girl from the walking dead.
Haha, I hadn't realized that that daughter was Erin Moriarty from The Boys!!!! The younger daughter probably looks familiar from The Walking Dead... 'Look at the flowers...'
I sat my kids in front of the TV, and ran into my bedroom to watch this as soon as I saw it was up. 😂 I’m really liking your predictions!
Hahaha nice! Hope you enjoyed and the kids enjoyed some good tv too!
@@TBRSchmitt I hope the kids weren't watching True Detective
Great response and analysis, as usual! You two are very perceptive and express your thoughts well 😊
Im sure multiple have commented but this is based on a real story about a church in Louisiana. One day the dude walked into the police station and just confessed, i think.
Hosanna Church in Ponchatoula. They were actually Satanists who sexually abused over twenty children.
Enjoying this reaction series so much that I want to time jump into the future to see the next ep, regardless of what life experiences I miss out on in the intervening time xP
Haha thanks for the support! Don’t miss any life experiences though! We will be wrapping up season 1 soon enough!
Thanks guys
When I come home from work and ready to have a meal I open youtube to watch your new reaction and I noticed a cute and silly thing about me that everytime I start watching your reaction and Samantha says "Hello" I say hello and raise my hand up in return :D. Love your channel guys. Thank you for what you are doing.
First Chernobyl, then season one of True Detective - you two are spoiling us rotten!
I love this show but I've always thought that part where they show the picture of Rust looking at the crime scene over the people's shoulders was really ham handed. They could have made that a little more elaborate, couldn't they?
I know you guys take recommendations on Patreon, but if you would consider reacting to the film “You Were Never Really Here” that would be awesome. Absolutely beautiful, brutal, tragic, and intense revenge thriller about a guy (played by Joaquin Phoenix) at the end of his tether tracking down the abducted daughter of a senator. One of the best films I’ve seen in years, by a truly brilliant director (Lynn Ramsey), and I feel you folks will definitely enjoy it.
Another awesome reaction folks can’t wait to see your reaction to how the final few episodes unfold!
What I like about the last shot is that there are black stars in the window pane that frames Rust. I think it might've been what LeDoux saw in his dream.
What Marty did is the only way to deal with pedophiles and child killers. Best rehab they can get.
I just realised that one of the cops who talked last to the convict was a Childress
I know i should not , but when he blows himself up : cracks me up everytime
That other little girl at the dinner table in this episode you thought was familiar? She was crazy lizzie from the walking dead, the one who loved to play with zombies, and killed her little sister so she could play with her corpse? That's who it was :-)
Hey guys you choosing really good shows. This one one of my favorite ones.Esspecially season 1 was epic.
The younger girl is from The Walking Dead.
Of course!! Thanks for the info!
Along the shore the cloud waves break,
The twin suns sink behind the lake,
The shadows lengthen
In Carcosa.
Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies,
But stranger still is
Lost Carcosa.
Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
Where flap the tatters of the King,
Must die unheard in
Dim Carcosa.
Song of my soul, my voice is dead,
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed
Shall dry and die in
Lost Carcosa.
-"Cassilda's Song"
I love how attentive you guys are! Haha..another intense fucking episode. I'll never get over how brilliant this show is.
True Detective has had a big influence on the crime genre since it aired, with the philosophy of pessimism at the core of the show. Much of this embodied by Cohle's nihilistic worldview, creating an atmosphere of pessimism.
Well, Noir genre was around for a LONG time
There was definitely a paradigm shift after the first season, but nobody has done it as well.
Can't wait for you to watch the last few episodes!
Was just waiting for this !
Wait no longer!
holy shit, that IS Annie :D
Time is a flat circle.
The other sister, not Annie, was in The Walking Dead.
"Look at the flowers"
What is the reason for Marty and Rust falling out? The answer is unexpected and shocking.
21:53 Oh...you're mind's going to be blown alright...
My movie recommendation is the whole "saw" franchise.
Loved the reaction to the Texas chainsaw massacre.
The whole saw franchise is so good! I loved it. But youre wife(I dont know if she is youre wife or her name) she might be closing her eyes the whole movie.
Very funn reaction to a great episode. So happy your reactions got me subscribing to HBO to watch this. 👍🏻
So weird hearing the names of cities I lived near for about 10 years. Also, worked in court house a few times with the writer’s Dad ..
SPOILER ALERT FOR EPISODE 8 BELOW!!!!
Man i've seen this series countless times both on my own and alongside reactions and I never caught that one of the cops who was last seen speaking to the witness that committed suicide was part of the Childress family, thats rad!
I think these two have binge watched this series, and have just changed their tops between episodes lol.
u watched through this show acouple times and just started going through these and never realized one of the cops in the prison cell was a Childers
OBVIOUSLY the witness killed himself by his own agency, we learned this from Epistein.
I know you have a lot of questions....take comfort in knowing that in 2 episodes, it will start to make sense.
Very intelligent couple! You guys picked up on wayyyy more stuff than I did the first viewing 😅
Nothing beats season 1 but Season 2 is ok, I really like season 3 though.
Bosnian Rainbows - Eli is the song at the end of this episode of True Detective
Been waiting for this one!
So this way past overdue but Miles is the leader of gingers iron crusaders chapter. Based on dialogue its implied that he hates Rust or is at least on bad terms with him.
Amazing episode after the next
Time is a flat circle...
Just when you thought you knew what was going on, you now have more questions.
Get ready to have the final chapters revealed.
Pretty intense, right ?
Please help me find the name of the song in this episode which is in a minute 2:10 In this video, the scene in which the conversation begins 1:27
the reason why rust makes a point to say " thanks for the beer" is because anything they get from him during that interview is now inadmissible.
Rust is always 3 steps ahead, As you will see in the next couple of episodes.
As an attorney, this isn’t true. While it is the stated reason for the drinking by Nic Pizzolatto in the behind the scenes material, it doesn’t make sense in the real world.
His statements would be admissible or easily substantiated at another time when Rust is not intoxicated. Regardless, his interview is coherent and doesn’t have any indication of impairment. A lot of crime and witness testimony happens around drunk and impaired individuals, and is not an automatic bar to admissibility.
I think the main reason he asked for five beer cans was to foreshadow the larger “sprawl” of the hidden secret of the True Detective universe, institutional organized inter-generational satanic ritualistic abuse cults.
You can really easily tell when the two are lying.
Marty starts using 20$ words (like at the trial) and articulate discourse in a certain fashion, when he usually never does.
Rust instead relies on religion, because he knows he can reverse psy his audience, to appeal to their imaginary.
19:45 Keep digging, Watson...
You are both close yet far away with your predictions, its like your heads are spinning looking for a guiding star, but you are not yet realizing that it's daytime lol. I love this show, and can't wait for you to do the final few episodes. It will be lethargic.
Hey can you both please react to Mindhunter both seasons please
We LOVED Mindhunter! Unfortunately, we’ve seen it, but I wish we could go back and do a first time watch
@@samantha_schmitt ohh that's great
Has an echo of "Angel Heart" and meeting Mister Cipher...one of my favorite Robert DeNiro roles of all time even though I'm not much of a Robert DeNiro fan (big time Al Pacino guy especially in "Scent of a Woman" but I'm very biased of course in that full disclosure.)
"Angel Heart" is i think a highly underrated throwback and leads to recurring themes of *WHO ME?* such as this all the time but not in such a complete way where the Devil always gets collects so it should be interesting to see if this is yet another affirming ending of some sort as Angel Heart most certainly was not but takes you along for the ride in a way that keeps you glued to the horror.
Another good one to ahem "go back on" ahem is "Memento" about a lead with absolutely zero short term memory so has a similar vibe to that as well.

Hello!
Hi!
🤙
The weaker half of the show
Its still good but I had a lot more fun with the detective work in the beginning, like Twin Peaks
12:37 Jeffery Epstein style.
"Childress".
Season 2 and 3 were such let downs after this season...I mean they were decent but season 1 was by far the best
I kinda wonder what it'd be like for first time viewing you watched say 2, 3, then 1 last... (depending on your preference). I think 2 is still very good television, but trying to compare against 1 is just... that's a hell of an ask.
Rust will use Marty's daughter as a bait and she will almost die and that's why they will have an argument... and the killer in the end will be Rust's forgotten father...
🤣
jailer is CHILDRESS??????
I made a mistake watching this. I like your reactions, you seem like really nice people, so I do want to watch, but there is one singular topic, that I can't bear to see. Not even as part of a TV show, because it makes me angry and fills me with rage in a way, that's indescribable.
Could someone tell me, is there any portrayal of assault or abuse of women and children of any kind in the following episodes?
Spoiler below
Lots, don't watch anymore if u meant what u typed but keep in mind, it is fiction.
@@bubmurphy Thanks for the reply. As for the "fiction" part;
it isn't. THESE particular cases shown here, are. But how it makes me feel is based on what's happening in real life. It's not a statement against you or anyone, don't get me wrong, but I'm having a hard time understanding how people can watch something like this and totally disassociate with real events that are just as horrible or worse than shown in the show. I guess it's just a matter what (if anything) makes you feel that way. And for me, this is the most heinous, evil and horrific thing anyone can do to someone else. I'm not trying to ignore this issue by not watching movies and shows that deal with the topic, it's the opposite. I encounter it so often in real life, that in order to not go insane, I want to avoid it in fiction.
