Charlie....once again, I made this, cooled it, frosted it and LAWD HAVE MERCY!!!! This cake was so delicious and moist. I made it for a potluck and it was the first dessert to go. Everyone was saying that it had to be a bakery cake because of how beautiful it came out after I decorated it just step by step as you did. There was a lady who hates german chocolate but tried this one and she loved it. Everyone was asking for the recipe so I told them about your channel, I even mentioned your carrot cake recipe that I also once made for another potluck that they also loved. Hello everyone! Here's some Q&A for this video. The video is pretty long but I put a lot of time into baking and decorating the cake. Since it is made from scratch it will take a lot of time to make. You can't bake and decorate a cake in an hour unless you baking out of the box and even that takes time to do lol
1. Question- Can I use this recipe to make a birthday cake?
Answer- Absolutely. There's also going to be enough frosting left over to create any type of decoration for the cake. Plus you'll have plenty of cake crumbs to go along with it.
2. Question- I cannot find the baker's German Chocolate in my area. Can I use another brand of sweetened or unsweetened baking chocolate?
Answer- Yes you sure can. I've learned that sometimes you gotta work with what you have.
3.Question- Can I use all baking Chocolate for this recipe?
Answer- Yes you sure can. Add an additional 2 ounces that's half of a 4 oz bar of baking chocolate and you'll be all set. The cake maybe a slightly on the fudgey side.
4. Question- Do I have to use the sour cream?
Answer- You can omit the sour cream but you will have to replace that with an extra 1/2 stick of butter. You won't taste it in the cake. TRUST ME. I recommend you leave the recipe as is.
5. Question- Can I omit the coffee from this recipe?
Answer- Yes you can. Replace the coffee with 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder.
6. Question- Why don't you use eggs in the frosting like a traditional German Chocolate cake?
Answer- I wanted to come up with a better way for people to store their cake at room temperature without having to put it in the fridge. It is also much healthier without all of the cholesterol from the egg yolks.
7. Question- Can I prepare my cake and frosting ahead of time?
Answer- Absolutely. I recommend you bake your cake like 3 days ahead of time and just wrap each cake layer with plastic wrap. You can store at room temp or place in fridge. You can also make the Coconut pecan frosting a few days ahead of time as well. You can store that at room temp as well.
8. Question- Can I omit the coconut in the frosting recipe?
Answer- Absolutely but you may have to add an additional 1 cup of chopped pecans to replace the missing coconut in the recipe.
9. Question- Can I omit the Pecans in the frosting recipe?
Answer- Yes but you will have to use an additional 1 cup of flaked coconut to replace the missing chopped pecans in the recipe.
10- Question- I have some icing and cake crumbs left over from this recipe what can I do with it?
Answer- You can store it in the fridge to make another German Chocolate cake or cupcakes. You can also make some German chocolate cake pops with the cake crumbs. You can make my praline fudge brownie recipe without adding the praline topping and just add the Coconut pecan frosting or the chocolate buttercream on top of the brownies. The possibilities are endless.
11 Question- I don't have the tools to decorate the cake where can I purchase them?
Answer- You can purchase the tools (Decorating comb, wilton 21 tip etc) at your local grocery or department stores. They even sell them online. Google it. Not hard to find.

No matter how bad my mood is, seeing Charlie’s smile and wink snaps me out of it. The smile is contagious. I been adding coffee to almost everything I make that is chocolate. It really enhances the chocolate flavor. I will be making this for Thanksgiving
