- Here's an installment of In the News with Christopher Glenn, dealing with the 7th G7 economic summit (a.k.a. the "Ottawa Summit") which was held on July 20th and 21st 1981, with footage from the event shown throughout. Includes:

An explanation of the word "summit," how it applies to political events, and a brief historical background of the G7 summit and previous such summits (going back to the first in 1975, then known as G6, presided over by French President Valery Giscard d'Estaing). Mr. Glenn goes into detail about this summit, held at the Château Montebello in Montebello, Quebec. The participants were U.S. President Ronald Reagan, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau (father of the current Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau), French President François Mitterand, German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, Italian Prime Minister Giovanni Spadolini, and Japanese Prime Minister Zenko Suzuki (it was the first time for Messrs. Reagan, Spadolini and Suzuki). As Mr. Glenn notes, such summits are as much a "get to know you" affair as they are about discussing the economic problems of the world and what to do about them.

What a great Era that was when Saturday mornings meant something anybody agree
With CBS making a return to SatAM cartoons(thank MeTV for forcing CBS's hand), this fall, which will be a gradual process and will have an eventual domino effect with both ABC and NBC, CBS might revisit brining back In The News with various news personnel contributing select stories, each week. Stories, such as green energy, MLB's R.B.I. program, recreational activities in the summer months, Habitat for Humanity, etc.- stories that kids can relate to!!!
The In the News intro sounds like the Hall of Justice's computer.
Even as a girl, I wanted to sleep-in even more because of the hypnotic sound effects.

The sound effects of those "We'll Be Back After 'In The News' and These Messages" bumpers put me under a deep hypnotic spell!! 😵💫🥰😍😴
Great memories of eating Frosted Flakes while watching cartoons on Saturday mornings in the late 70's and early 80's. So very glad I grew up then as opposed to now...the world was just a bit more innocent then. Also, more child friendly...without the entire home and world revolving around children.

The "In the News" segments would often be preceded by an animated bumper ("Next, another interesting story that's in the news" or "Now here's another interesting story that's In the News") from its programs (Tarzan/Lone Ranger, Bugs Bunny, Popeye, Fat Albert, Mighty Mouse & Heckle and Jekyll, the Drak Pack, Droopy from Tom & Jerry Comedy Show etc...), but they were phased out by 1981.
That was only for a couple of years. I never saw the Drak Pack do it.
