- In this completely subjective video, I compile a list of my favorite checkers openings. I follow a specific criteria, as it was a challenge to narrow down just ten openings. Please feel free to share your favorite openings and why they are your favorite in the comments section below!

I don't really have a top list Ryan, but I will point out a few I like:
1. 9-14, 22-18, 10-15. A very live opening with lots of interesting play. Not as weak for red as some others, but white can force a lot of star moves fairly early. I also had one of my most classic games ever on the weak side of this opening, against Alex M.
2. 10-15, 21-17, 15-18, or 10-14, 24-19, 14-18. Both of these can transform into some very fun, but complicated mid-games. I have beat some good players on this one.
3. 11-16, 23-18, 16-20. Partly because I know it so well, and contains some potential classic shots. Harder to get wins against higher level players though.
Thanks for sharing, Joe! I like the openings you selected, too. I usually transpose 9-14, 22-18, 10-15 into 10-15, 23-18, 9-14. I also had a great game against Alex Moiseyev with that opening, playing a game out of Ryan's MEC (Moiseyev prefers the delayed 31-26 move on the 26-22 (26-23) variation. 10-14, 24-19 (24-20) 14-18, is tricky and fun too -- so many subtle variations. And of course you can't go wrong with the Bristol Cross!
regresaste maestro !!! que sigan los éxitos en tu canal 👏🤝🤝💪
Thanks, friend! I haven't left -- I just haven't been posting frequently. It's also been months since I played online, so a visit to flyordie / playok is long overdue!
My favorite opening is 11-16 Bristol (Millbury 11-16, 22-18, 8-11). Thanks for the video Ryan.
Dear Ryan. I sent you a friend request on instagram. Janissary77 is my username. Thank you.
@@backgammon7743 Hello! I haven't been on Instagram lately, but I will accept your friend request! I have found the Millbury opening to be quite popular lately, so it does not come as a surprise that it is your favorite! It usually transposes into Pioneer lines, so I think it's definitely worth covering in a future video.
Great usefull
It takes years to lock these down. I'm still playing one opening 😅
It really takes a lifetime, Marcus! And that's OK that you're still only playing one opening. Keep on playing it -- I believe you are playing the 11-15, 7-11 sequence, which is exactly what I played when I first started.
Marcus, hey man!
@@thebigvoice7257 Hey Manny! How are you doing?
@@producingfire I'm good and how have you been?
@@thebigvoice7257 I've been well, I've been working on a lot of music lately, and there hasn't been one day since I started playing checkers a year ago where I skipped. I'm still getting beat a lot though haha.
Super interesting. Can you consider a brief video on the rules of American Pool Checkers, and some basic strategies that are unique to that style of play? Thank you.
Thank you -- I believe I know the rules of Pool checkers, but certainly do not know much else about it. I feel confident in saying there are many CZcams videos available that showcase the game -- strategies and all!
@@azcheckers Okay, thank you. I found a good documentary on CZcams about its popularity, esp in the American south, but none that showed me actual play. Hmm. It intrigues me. I bet you’d be a strong contender for the title given your knowledge if adapted to that variation. Thanks
@@Burps___ Thanks -- I found this channel, although I haven't looked at the videos: czcams.com/channels/N8ir16mNj29--hP-MO4Afg.html
I know the game is similar to Russian draughts, except when jumping in and out of the king row in the same sequence, the piece is not crowned. I have played the game a number of times (along with 10x10 draughts), but certainly can't speak to my ability!
@@azcheckers oooo okay. thank you

How about a short video on how the squares are numbered? I have no idea what a 9-14, 22-18, or a 10-15 mean.
I've been have luck with old faithful
Yes, it's theoretically the best way to open the game, but no 11-15 openings made my list!
perfect!!!, is there any one please can help me find the best checkers pc program!!!
Hi Lenard, I can recommend Kingsrow engine using CheckerBoard interface. You can download both here: edgilbert.org/EnglishCheckers/KingsRowEnglish.htm
