I put a 4r70w in my 68 mustang convertible with a US Shift controller. It was a game changer, especially having full control over all the parameters.

I have a 2003 v6 mustang 4r70w in my 70 mustang. First off you have to cut those ears off. Second if the plan to use the stock shifter you have to get a lokar ata 1008 shift arm and a universal th400 shift arm kit with heim joints and your good to go! Third, if you want to use the smaller aod yoke, you have to use a aod tail shift!

I love my 4R70W in my 75 Torino.I rebuilt it myself pretty easy to do.And I'm using US shift quick 2 it's all I need works great. My transmission is out of a 98 5.0 Explorer 2x4.And I used a 98 explorer mini starter.

Glad to see you doing this (again). I used your previous videos on installing the 4R70W in the wagon in prep for my install last month where I put a 4R70W (from a V6 2000 Mustang which has the same small block bellhousing pattern) behind a 408w in my '70. Unfortunately, I did run into interference issues with a couple of the ears on the case, which I discovered after getting the trans installed. One was on the top of the rear passenger side of the main case, which interfered with the tunnel. The other was an ear on the passenger side of the bellhousing that interfered with the headers I'm using. Fortunately, I was able to hack both those off without issue with the trans in the car by removing the rear mount and lowering the trans a couple inches to gain extra access. I ran into no interference at the firewall or with any of the rest of the bellhousing or trans housing. Also, because the 4R70W is 1" longer, I had to space the aftermarket AOD/T5 crossmember I used (American Powertrain part #XFFO-10101) back about 1/2". The crossmember you're using appears to have a bit more adjustment for where the mount sits, so hopefully that shouldn't be an issue for you guys. Looking forward to seeing how this project goes for you guys.

You may even be able to use a core from behind the 4.2 V6 "Essex" from an F150/E150 - they stuck with the Windsor patterns. And there's a bunch more of these in junkyards, most of them 2wd units.

Some helpful i.d. info is the 4R70W transmission that fits the 302/5.0 engine has 2 starter bolt holes, the 4.6/Mod motor trans has 3 starter bolt holes.

Monster trans makes 3 different stages of AOD- Had mine for 5 years-works perfect and no need for costly comp controller and no wiring rats nest either !!!

I just finished installing a 4R70W into a 66 mustang. I found that my transmission had a larger slip yoke than AOD. I used a spicer 2-3-14061X which fixed the looseness and leaking

So I believe you got those two transmissions backwards. The aod is the one in front of you. 470 w the one over there for the wires hooked to it

@@Chris-up2ro Wowch! $2k Canadian?!?!!! I'm guessing import taxes added a bunch, but I hope you got more than just the Quick4 for that price. I just ordered in March and it was $1070 USD ($1460-ish CAD) shipped, with tax, including the Quick4, TPS5 kit, valvebody reprogramming kit, a couple Sonnax valve upgrades, and a filter.

If it modular engine the bellhausing is not the same as the 302/ 351W small block.

AOD's for V6 cars had fewer clutches in the transmission (and will be less durable behind a high power motor). Since the "70" in 4R70W is supposed to indicate the torque capacity of the transmission (700ft. lbs), maybe the 4R70W behind the V6 isn't built for less power?

Talking transmissions.....I have a 67 stock 289 C code. With a C4. I was changing the main and rod bearings. And noticed my #3 thrust bearing was cutting into the crank. So I went to have it checked and was told the torque converter was swollen causing the crank to push forward causing the crank issue. Ever run into this? Or is this an excuse to pass the buck to the next guy?

I believe the 3.8 V6 in the SN95 mustangs have the Windsor bolt patter also, so you can source one from them as well.

In some respects I agree with you on that. But boy I really like driving my car with a 4r70w in it. Honestly I don't even miss not having a bigger gear outback on the wagon.
