You know, in Punisher (2004] the scene where the Russian attacks the apartment, the actor who played Punisher actually stabbed Kevin Nash (who played the Russian) the actor thought that it was just a retractable blade, but it was actually a dulled blade. Kevin Nash actually didn’t notice, and when the scene ended, he saw that he was bleeding and asked for some skin glue to patch the wound. When asked for what the studio could do in order not to get sued for Kevin getting stabbed, Kevin requested that they get beer for all the crew members and actors.
That’s a good bloke
They quickly prevented a special operation of genocide and terrorism. Good on them
Class act right there. That's actually what I think of every time someone mentions prop blades
What a way to stick it to the man!
@@zedmelondid you just pun on an actual dude getting stabbed?
I guess you could say the knife CGI technology is really cutting edge!
they do look pretty sharp, the vfx folks took a stab and made something special
They really do got sharp visuals tho
He already did the "cutting edge technology" pun in the video >:(
@@hoagielamp6543 oh I missed that sorry
@@tojotaco3822 It's okay I forgive you, plus your comment got a heart from Scott!
Scott’s videos are something i genuinely look forward to every day
100% same! Love em all😃
SAMES!!
I'm really glad I found your channel. Your dad jokes are like an elevator; they take us to another level.
They really raise my spirits.
I guess you could say they have their ups and downs
Glad to see another PVIII viewer elsewhere
@@tristanburton6732 Scott and PVIII are the best CZcamsrs of the year.
Very uplifting
Its hilarious how much better this content is when its not made for tik tok.
Please post more videos like this! The TikTok format is cool and all, but when you have way more time to explain stuff, I’d joy it way more! Please. Please keep it up.
did you know that one point in history, knives were cutting edge technology
I’m really loving the more in depth videos like these. I’m curious about how the firearm props are used on set with safety, supervision and laws.
Same ! I’m really thrilled to have a more in-depth look at stuffs. The short formats are perfect too, glad we have both now.
From what I understand, they are pretty much all completely fake guns, either prop-specific guns or fancy BB/airsoft guns. They either don't move at all, or "cycle" (the slide moves) using the trigger pull (as opposed to using exhaust gasses/recoil from firing). They don't shoot anything, not even blanks (which are still fairly dangerous), and the actual muzzle flashes, ejected cases, sometimes cycling, and everything else is VFX.
There's not a lot of laws surrounding these dummy guns, even in countries where firearms are heavily restricted, since they are pretty much just props.
@@MatthewSmith-sz1yq Many productions use real firearms that are converted to use blanks safely. Scott even mentions so in one of his videos.
@@Malmstrom92 Blanks, and modified springs for modern handguns, are pretty common in theatre. You need that authentic-ish pop.
@@Rafael_Fuchs blanks are fake bullets right?
Another great video Scott!!! You got my boy hooked. All he’s talked about the past few weeks is becoming a prop maker for movies and also a stunt man so he can “ do all the crazy stuff that people are to scared to do “. Thanks man, keep the longer videos coming!
I love the longer video!!! I'm so glad it wasn't cut short! More time for more shiny new puns!!!
Of course, I love everything you post, but this one was a cut above the rest!!!!
i’d love one a week if it’s possible, there’s so many things that he can showcase and make a good point about that he can’t do in a one minute or two video
All these mans videos underrated
Simply loving the "working class" take on the film industry. So often we hear "movie magic" and associate it with the director or editor or actors. But seeing three identical knives and learning that only one is made of metal: that's magic. It simply amazes me just how much time and effort goes into the simple things, from rubber knives to vinyl grocery bags.
Love the dosage of puns at the end
I really find old school movie making and props to be fascinating. But, I watch the channel for the Dad jokes. The best in the business, cutting edge.
If only everyone took prop weapon safety so seriously.
Jokes on you, I know the knives are all real and you're just really strong. You can't fool me.
Protip: having a plain red background like this in your thumbnail makes it hard for viewers to know if they've already seen your videos. Like the red progress bar at the bottom isn't visible anymore.
Also girlfriend and I love these videos so great work! The fake brands are my favorite personally.
These longer videos are great thank you
Yay new video
What a fool I was to think the puns were truly over.
These puns are cutting deep into my soul
Glad I found this. I once got stabbed whilst making a student film with a retractable knife that decided not to retract, so every time I see knife scenes in a film I do think about that. There's a classic scene in the film Opera where a retractable knife is driven into someone's neck at speed. Brave actor relying on that prop!
Retractable blades can be risky, you really need to coach the actor to not get carried away and use too much force, and to always go for a straight angle. Insurance companies can be skittish about them regardless.
Possibly they can be taken apart to be really polished and deburred, and then thoroughly lubed, and that might reduce some risk.
Dude, I need to list these jokes down for when I'm a dad.
When it comes to knife puns, you're pretty sharp.
I liked this new style video Thats not a short
Its really cool to get insight of all these stuff
Keep up the great work!
"I will take it to heart" with a knife in his heart 😂 I love this guy
I like your puns sir. Shalom Samuel
The most wholesome part of my day.
You are a class act. While funny (punny), you didn't joke when it was time to be serious. Incredible job well done!
I remember finding you on tiktok, then I stopped using it. But now as a new filmmaker, I looked up how to build my own prop weaponry and your channel came up. This is a godsend
i’m so happy every time I see a new video from scott
The fact the side look is part of the title card is a REALLY nice touch
Thank you for correcting the audio and re-uploading.
My pleasure!! Thanks for the heads up!!!!!!! I’m still getting the hang of it!!
Didn't expect to be pommeled with puns.
I will say that your dad jokes are pretty sharp lately
I winced when you stuck that knife so close to your eye.
You raised very good points about safety. That's keeping a sharp eye out for the welfare of the performers!
Great series, thanks. I'm a picture car wrangler but do enjoy peeking in the prop department as we do work together alot.
You must have a really sharp mind when it comes to puns
I guess you could say realistic props being more dangerous is a double edged sword.
This past month has been so brutal and challenging but your channel has got me through it with laughter and entertainment and iv actually learned a-lot about movie props that iv always wondered about. Thank You 🙏
this was great to see, but what about prop stone tools? like stone axes or obsidian blades, things that have to look earthy or shiny? there were a lot of examples of this in 2006’s Apocalypto, for example
He does have a previous video about rubber props that would probably be applicable to stone tools as well - for opaque materials like wood and stone I assume a skilled painter can create the desired effect over any material, but maybe he'd use a different process for a translucent material like obsidian?
@@alexholker1309 There are transparent rubbers too, like silicone, so I don't think there's different process.
@@alexholker1309 yeah i've seen his video on prop rocks/rubble where they painted foam chunks. i guess that with a club in a fight scene, they would need to use rubber. but i wonder how they make prop obsidian weapons then-maybe just make a rubber prop and coat it with a shellac?
@@joeschianodicola1810 gloss black paint. If you want it translucent, you could use the paint sold for tinting tail lights on cars. You could also just use a shiny clear urethane/rubber and add tint in the mold. Use a gloss clear over that and you'd get a good result. Obsidian isn't always very translucent anyway, so just a plain black rubber and a gloss clear coat would give good results too.
I love your puns and dad jokes so much
The aluminum swords are so cool!
love the thumbnail! Great vid!
Loving these longer videos
looking sharp there, Scott. I appreciate your videos.
Paint job's amazing! Makes it really more believable
movie props and dad jokes in one, no one could ever think of! (insert dad jokes here)
I'm so happy this is here, the videos are so short on Facebook.
Your shared knowledge only increases my enjoyment of films and tv, knowing more about the skills and role of the prop team. It’s seriously cool.
Those knife puns were so edgy, such a sharp wit!!! 😉😉
Ooooh a fresh video! Nice. Love that you're bringing us long form some more.
Your videos are really interesting and the puns are a nice touch.
The cut though 😭😭😭💚💚💚
These longer videos are some of my favorites on youtube. Awesome job my man
Absolutely love these longer videos.
I absolutely love when I find a specific content creator that is so passionate about their craft and loves talking about everything about it and explains everything so professionally. Idk it’s just so satisfying
Damnit that last one really caught me off *guard*
Your videos are great and the dad jokes / puns always make me shake my head and mutter to myself..." Why do I watch??!" And then I have to watch another one. LOL.
Awesome! Your videos are always a cut above...
Love the videos man!
You're always able to edge in another pun!
so happy this isnt a short. keep it up boss
That's some knife wordplay. You have a rapier wit. A sharp intellect. Not one to try to ice-skate uphill.
Scott is, after all, pretty sharp!
Love learning this stuff from such a sharp guy.
THIS is some great behind-the-scenes content. Thanks Scott!
Love the longer videos!!!
love the more in-depth vids!
The Gerber pocket knife at 3:24 looks really nice
My very first foray into the film world was as prop master for the short film Sur'vi. I was tasked with making knives and swords for the fight scene. The swords I made out of extruded pvc, and the knives were made out of chip board. On camera they look pretty good. But we broke all 3 of the swords I made multiple times.
Awesome would love to see more on prop blades
Watching this channel over the past however many weeks has been such a joy. And for a film buff it's both interesting and deepens my appreciation for the prop cleverness that goes into all of these scenes.
I'm addicted to these videos
Those prop knifes are looking pretty sharp! The paint job really is a cut above the rest.
Scott, love your videos! Please keep them coming as they really do prop up my mood.
I absolutely love this channel, especially the puns
Hey man, really enjoyed the video! Please keep doing these longer formats
I think this guy's one sharp cookie.
Your puns are sharp as always!
Love Corridor Crew for talking about VFX and stunts, and now have a new channel to learn about props!
This is cutting edge stuff.
I liked your appeareance in vice. I hope everything is better now! Thank you for the awesome content!
His puns are everything
Hi Scott! Loving the longer videos lately! Keep it up!
This is my new favorite youtube channel! You've honed in on two of my favorite things; props and puns. Thanks for the videos, Scott. I feel like I've found another youtube diamond here!
The presentation was real sharp!
Good you cut there. Was almost a slash feast. But you did score some nice ones - I bet you have carved lots of notches.
The longer videos are amazing! Thank you!
it's weird, I love the dad jokes and puns, but the prop stuff is genuinely so fascinating, it's a win-win either way
Love this video, you had some great points. You're a sharp guy, and thats no sheath
I love these longer videos. Bordering on ASMR for me! :)
So interesting to learn about film stuff like this
I love the movie Pitch Perfect!
@Scott Prop and Roll
I'm assuming you have not worked on any recent _Star Wars_ movies- or the current streaming show, _The Mandalorian-_ but one of the big improvements they made in the last almost-six years was making the lightsabers not only with physically-glowing blades (as opposed to traditionally adding in the glow post-production) but able to have those same blades be used to hit actors or objects. Do you have any idea how these modern lightsaber props are able to have lights along their interior length _and yet_ not break when hitting something? Materials, construction techniques, technologies?
I don’t know, however Props to History is well versed in Star Wars props. Give him a shout.
@@ScottPropandRoll Thank you, I will!
You know I like this video, he has a good point
Man, you really *pommel* 'd us with interesting showcases!
Yey!!! I love the longer videos.
