Im taking my driving calsses at 10 or noon so i don't deal with school crossings, peopke running late to work etc. It's still no fun to drive but having and old school trucker as my instructor and lerning to operate in this mess will give me great joy on open road.

I went that same route during my training time with Prime Inc and my goodness, you have to have a lot of skill and patience my friend. That’s one place I love to visit but never want to drive truck through again.
You traveled through my old neighborhoods where I grew up as a child and patrolled with the NYPD as an adult the Bronx! Safe Driving Bill 😊
I’m now a semi retired semi driver after 48 years + and only drove into Long Island once . And have to hand it to you for going into the city. Every company I drove for when I was applying the first question out of my mouth was Do you deliver in NYC or the island and if the answer was yes I excused myself and apologized for taking up their time. This was back before GPS when you had to use a Rand McNally atlas to find your way. Before I agreed to take a load into NY state I always referred to my atlas and if it was in the city or the island I refused it

I drive a food grade tanker and made my last trip across the GWB a few months ago when I said, “Never again”! I’ve been to Long Island, NY one too many times and I’ll never cross the GWB, the Throgs Neck Bridge or get on the 495 ever again. There isn’t enough money to make it worth my time, stress and or aggravation.

NY, NJ , MA, the entire North east seaboard should be Cab overs or day cabs not OTR trucks. I have hated the area since 1991, We had 48's but long hood Petes and Western stars extended hoods. Well done Kevin. I will always refuse those loads. I’ve had the pleasure of running thru the Bronx’s and Long Island. Never again. I like working here at Crete but will happily turn my keys in if forced to go into NYC. Western New York I’ll do. Been doing this 19 years those nyc loads will never pay enough.
I’m in a very hard decision. Been at this company from school I got 1 year 7 months in now. I want to leave but scared if I do so I we bet back over the road making $300 checks and I can’t afford that. Right now I go home for Saturday Sunday but home. But I want more I guess I need to know would it be worth it. Am at 300 a day right now. At tax 1000 I need more

I absolutely hate the GW, and the cross Bronx; go through it almost every day. The clearance signs are 1ft above the posted value; many theories as to why. Just seeing those roads stresses me out, and I'm watching it on my phone. 😄 I need to move out of NYC...again.

Are you allowed to refuse loads to places that inner-city drops? I would just blow my brains out rather than deliver where you guys just went. Are owner-Operators who are leased to people like Crete allowed to refuse loads? I would not want to do that for a buck less than $500K per year. Total respect for the truckers who have to do crap like that!!!
There are reasons you can turn down loads. O/O get to pick from several (is what we heard). We don’t know the exact policy, but if you work with your asset manager we think it should be doable.

I have driven that route hundreds if not thousands of times having grown up in The Bronx. I now live in CT and avoid that route whenever possible . Insane traffic and poor roads, I'm being kind. It certainly can be challenging. Im not sure where you are coming from or going to, but there are better ways to get there. The Cross Bronx Expressway is an interesting roadway and route, it was over loaded from the time it opened.

I did GW bridge 4 times few weeks back. But I was lucky and didn't have to go into the city. You did a great job.

I took note because I lived in Manhattan for 30 years and finally retired back to my native state in the woods of NH. By the way, you also traveled over some of my great grandfathers granite. Our family owned a granite company that cut and delivered the granite foundation for the GW bridge. The barges that delivered the stone were named after his grand children. I have NY Port Authority pictures of a barge at the site with my mother's name on it.

Traffic sure was lite must have been before 6 am. I was on Long Island a few weeks ago. Traffic was heavy coming out next morning for you. I still get nervous with dry mouth from the stress of NYC. I love the squeaky Freightliner on the bumps. Your Kenworth rides Luke a Cadillac.

@@TheJoyofTrucking it's a good thing my company doesn't take me down there. I do northwest regional. They usually send me down to Grandview, Washington.
When I first started driving in 1999, we didn't have EZ pass, instead all the states in the northeast had their own toll card, it was like a credit card but good for only that state. I had a stack of toll cards for each state that required toll. You had to stop at the toll booth and give your toll card for that state and the attendant swiped your card and gave it back and you went on. I started with Werner and I remember all those toll cards, the one that sticks out the most I remember is Massachusetts, the card had a pilgrim hat on it. I think the toll back then to cross the George Washington Bridge was $25 for trucks. Ohio and Indiana had their own toll card too, I can't remember if Illinois had a toll card or if you just had to pay cash
Yup 25 bucks was it. Waaaaaay back. Chicago had baskets you could toss quarters in for tolls , $1.25 every plaza. I always brought rolls of quarters with me back then 😂

Now that I think about it, Werner had EZ pass but it was only good for the New York toll way, the rest of tge states had toll cards
@@robyn2344 and just try to find a working payphone in any inner city to call your broker. Half of them had gum, unmentionable substances on the mouthpiece, ripped out line or just plain didnt work.

Swift sent me to Manhattan my first load ever alone, the qualcom gps was malfunctioning and i was using my phone gps.... 😂😂 i got out unscathed but not without soiled trousers. Next month i quit. Never again 😂😢

Why they switched your truck have you and Kevin worked for online transport truck company
This was filmed in March when Kevin still had the Freightliner.
This was filmed in March in our previous truck. Kevin prefers a Kenworth but they had none available when he started with Crete. When Crete got new ones in he asked very nicely and they switched him to a Kenworth. We don’t know what you mean by ‘online transport truck company.’

Is your map from before June 1665? Then you might find it under New Amsterdam. 😁
In NY the clearances are marked 1 foot lower than what they actually measure. You will find some that are posted with the words “actual height”. Those bridges are marked correctly.
It’s a bit of a squeaky bum time going under a bridge that’s posted at 12’8” but you kinda get used to it. I ran NY for years and never had a problem.

I was on that same bridge once when I was at Werner. I had to go through NYC to get to customer, I was so scared but, made it through!!! I found some great parking at a casino while I was there!!!

Turns out that NY measures from the hub. So it’s usually a foot more than it says. But man…nothing like adding a bit more stress to a stressful situation. 🤦♀️
Kevin stay in the center lane the bridge signs are confusing remember you are on interstate so you should be fine .

Never liked NY city or Newark New Jersey . Being from outside Chicago helped me with city deliveries. My time was in the mid 70’s so a lot has changed. Enjoy the videos. Enjoy your new Kenny . ✌️

I did the NY mess for a few years almost constantly and I hated it. It was the worst. Did mostly queens or bronx or Brooklyn. That's why I feel better because Crete doest do much of that

Only way I would possibly travel in and around NYC is by bus, taxi, or subway train. Most likely by bus as I'm big into buses, too. City transit or motorcoach (as a passenger and not a driver😉).

@@TheJoyofTrucking Never been anywhere in the northeastern part of the U.S. Closeted I've gotten to that area was Kentucky and Nigeria Falls, Ontario, Canada. From Nigeria, you can downtown Buffalo in the distance.

You would think as much money that has been taken in for tolls to cross the GWB over the years, that the state could at least fix the roads, the road up there is horrible
